    as a melee/pm player, this game introduced me to anime fighters, and theres something so welcoming about the grunginess of competitive melty. the fact that its played through a command line with fanmade rollback hits home as a melee player, especially with the recent inclusion of rollback in slippi 2
    this game is sick and its the reason i got into skullgirls and tfh, i totally recommend, and i hope that it gets a revival similar to RoM

    I didn't realize that MBAACC is a deep game, MBAC was my entry title in learning fighting games, so that could be the reason why. MBAA's release in 2009 felt like the same game with more options to choose from.
    I remember that when we have new players to our play sessions. The simplest explanation we give for each moonstyle was always:
    Crescent = Basic Melty Blood.
    Half = Melty Blood with game mechanics on autopilot. Auto-Heat, Auto-Spark, Auto-Shield counter, has dodge, no Blood Heat,has dial A (6AAA),
    Full = Traditional fighter. No Reverse Beat, it's like playing SF or KOF with air combos, no dodge, has Blood Heat, can charge like Dragon Ball Z, manual shield counter

    Great review. I can't believe I missed it when I comment in one of your MB videos before. UA-cam recommended me this video.
    The depth in MB's gameplay is second to none. I have never seen such smooth and fast gameplay in a fighting game before. Type-Moon didn't release the PS2 versions of Act Cadenza and Actress Again because Type-Moon's license was very expensive and still is. Other companies are unwilling to publish their games. Capcom avoid a release outside of Japan with Fate/unlimited codes. So far it has only been Aniplex who has released Type-Moon products outside of Japan (NA region at least). FGO on smartphones and Everyday! Today's Menu for the Emiya Family on Nintendo eshop.
    That is a shame in my opinion we miss out the source material outside of Japan. Type-Moon is very popular in Japan which makes their license even more expensive. Believe or not but Melty Blood was more popular than Guilty Gear in Japan. The PS2 version of Act Cadenza sold 10 times more than PS2 version of Guilty Gear XX Reload. Actress Again released when portable gaming had taken over Japan and the mobile boom was a thing. The animation in Melty Blood is what made the game so popular in Japan.
    I just happened to be recommended with Tougeki sbo 2006 finals for Melty Blood Act Cadenza
    ua-cam.com/video/WRgCvuDas44/v-deo.html
    It was the year before Capcom debuted Monster Hunter Festa and become a competitive thing because MH Portable blew up big on PSP. I think the last legs of arcade in Japan was between 2007 and 2010.
    The gameplay looks crazy when a pro plays it. Tales of the Ils knew what they were doing to get the audience on their side. What a show off. Hype!

      It's almost masher-friendly and you can eke out rounds with simple combos & good defence.

  • @Abigdummy4life
    @Abigdummy4life 4 роки тому +6

    Other tidbits:
    *Reverse Beats in this game heavily increase damage scaling/heavily prorate if combo'ed off of.
    *Air teching has very little invul frames, which can put someone in a pickle of they try to button mash to reduce damage but air tech on accident to eat reset damage.
    *For those coming from the prior Act Cadenza installment, Crescent Moon movesets for most characters is their default version.
    *Midair movement forfeits most standard air dash lengths for most characters in favor of being able to have air options being combined into one another before landing (e.g. double jumping after an air dash like in Tatsunoko vs. Capcom), air dashes being cancel-able sooner, air drifting during a jump (reused in Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax), and all ground moves being air unblockable. These all focus on more intricate aerial spacing akin to how Smash Bros.' aerial spacing works, and less braindead air-to-air management.
    *The characters' overall in design can be rather a bit of a miss since nearly all the characters were designed first for a visual novel as opposed to a fighting game (barring those solely introduced into MB such as Sion). Thus, compared to pure-fighting-game-IP's, some character designs overall can be a bit lacking just for source material's sake compared to the liberties taken in Under Night In-Birth.

    • @guguxumusu
      @guguxumusu 4 роки тому +4

      i think that the simple character design is actually a very welcome change. if you look at every other fighting game, you see people with 20 belts 30 katanas and some more belts.
      in melty most characters look simple but at the same time they dress like a normal person would dress ( for the most part). the whole theme is centered around people that look normal at first glance, but have powers that are beyond that of a human. the stages are urban too, because lore wise the fighting happens deep in the night in vacant alleys, store houses, on the streets late at night to steer away from peoples eyes. what lacks in character design is also remedied by the animation and the style of fighting.

      Ajny Hoang As much as I can agree with that, I think most of the variety criticism comes from the fact that, roster-wise, it has Melee syndrome: CLONES EVERYWHERE. Among the cast we have Shiki Tohno, Shiki Nanaya aka the “evil” side of Shiki Tohno, Shiki Ryougi (though she’s from a different VN so it doesn’t count as much), TWO Akiha Tohnos, Akiha Vermillion which is the evil side of Akiha Tohno, Kohaku, Hisui, Mech-Hisui, Kohaku/Hisui team, Kohaku/Mech-Hisui team, the list goes on...
      Sure, as far as functionality they’re different, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have 3 Akihas, like Ultimate having 2-4 Marth clones.

Although melty isn't the best example of this, I think "clones" are a great way for FG developers to reuse animations and assets in order to make a unique character while wasting less budget (Melee Falco and Ganon, GG Robo Ky and Order Sol, HFTF Shadow Dio, etc.)

    Despite its oil well of depth, MB is still quite easy to pick up and play. My friends used to play it occasionaly without having an idea of its extra mechanics and had a blast picking a large variety of adjustable archetypes. Half moon characters actually tend to be offensive, with the automatic heat allowing you to continue offense and restore red life at the same time similarly to Full Moon's Initiative Heat, but only requiring 200 meter and not requiring a specific IH combo or anything. They also actually lack the ability to Ex Guard, which puts into question Half Moon's defensive capability. Losing Last Arc as a threat on shield also possibly counts as a weaker defensive capability, even if using Last Arc isn't particularly common. The inability to activate Heat as a reversal also results in a weaker defense.
    But otherwise, good review overall and I'm glad you brought attention to this game.
