As someone who’s like Snufkin this made me tear up. Wanting freedom to explore doesn’t mean we don’t miss the people most important to us when we’re away. This is a beautiful representation of his character and the ending is so cute 🥰.
In the show it was always made out that Snufkin was callous just for the sake of it, like he just wants to be free so much that he just sacrifices everything else for it, that's possible but realistically this type of behaviour is more accurate from someone who suffers massive trust issues. I would know because I behaved very similarly to this for a few years, actively pushed people away, harboured many negative feelings because of it but I do understand why I did it. I regretted it and one day after a song reminding me of it caused me to cry I realized that being cold hearted isn't for me anymore, I've clearly recovered since then. It's not easy but eventually you realize that the pain is worth it, it's better to try and risk rain then do nothing the whole time.

This is definitely one of, if not THE, prettiest moomin animatics I've seen on youtube and it captures so much in such a short span of time. There's clear longing and sorrow and love and excitement and all the snippets from old and new stories just ties it all together in a beautiful narrative~ So flippin well made I honestly cannot praise it enough (nor have I said anything that hasn't already been said, but it bares repeating regardless.) You worked hard on this and it shows!! You should be so proud of what u accomplished here~

i really love how you added small clips that happened in both the 2019 and 1990 series, like the part where teety-woo came over to sunfkin to have a little conversation, or when there was little my flowing down the river at 3:54 or snork's flying ship with both snufkin and moomin on it. i also love how you wrote 'cheerio,' at the start of the animation, since that was what snufkin wrote in his letter in the 2019 series, most of parts of the 2019 are at the end of the animatic, i love the details, this was great! thank you for spending 4 months of your time to do this

I've been wondering for a while now why everyone in the fandom got so attached to Snufkin, even back in the 40s. But I think I get it: we all kind of feel like we're drifting, we want to go out and see the world and find ourselves but also to have meaningful connections with people who understand what it is we need, but we also don't really know what exactly we want and when we do, we're aware that it'll come at a price. We see ourselves in the scrungly little guy who leaves when he pleases and stays when he wants. This animatic is really well-done. The little details (like Snufkin reaching for and missing his backpack on the first try because he's so excited) make my heart so happy.
Now THIS is a Moomin animatic! Very clear, very precise, very emotionally-driven movement. Great pacing for its story-telling and overall wonderful work! Glad to see this fandom is still very much alive :D 3:38 - My personal favorite detail! Snufkin missing the bag strap because he was so eager to return to Moomintroll. Also at 3:50 the change in line color to differentiate past from present is a nice touch!
I seriously have no words for this. I'm speechless. Usually I would analyse a lot for this kind of animatic, but words fail at this moment. I already knew how much Snufkin meant to me personally, but it's become so clear in as I watched this how much he has to go through in order to reach a place of true, genuine happiness. And his relationship with Moomin is so beautifully illustrated here, with Moomin's constant understanding of Snufkin's needs, and Snufkin's unconditional love for him coupled with his need for personal space, and the casual longing shared with them. I have only the most basic secondhand knowledge of Moominvalley and have never heard this song, but you are so clear and evoke such a powerful emotional throughline that I feel like I better understand both. This honors a piece of the human condition that I don’t think I’ve ever seen celebrated, or at least not with this unabashed sincerity. I've seen some really great animatics but this is a whole new level. The expressions, the body language, the little details like Snufkin barely missing his backpack's strap when he takes off running or Moomin's feet pointing to Snufkin when he's with Snorkmaiden, and the cinematic aspect!! The way you use transitions and camera movements is mesmerizing. Just really beautiful overall. Amazing work, thank you 💞
I'm not sure if the grid was meant to be there but when Snufkin looked at the stars it made it look like there was a roof over. And that got me thinking. Even tho he should feel free at that moment he might still be bound by his thoughts and feelings to Moomin/other things. He can never truly be free that man, even tho he so desperately craves it. This was so beautiful! As someone who loves this show for its innocence and purity, I feel sad when people try to make it something its not. Theres a lot of weird fanart and fanfics out there that kind of take away from the childlike playfulness of what Tove made. Thats why I appreciate this. It retains the childlike wonder of the world I love the show for and emphasizes the bonds and hard emotions that make the characters so real. Amazing job and brilliant animation.

I just came across this, and since no one seemed to have answered this here yet, might as well give my two cents! ^^ (Let's see if I manage to put this stuff into words xD) For me this video ewokes a rather bitter sweet feeling? It's becouse of the mix between the lyrics and knowing these characters. The beginning has this feeling of uncertainty, as if he's questioning if leaving everytime is something he really wants. He clearly missed Moomin during his travels, and with the lyrics it almost suggests him questioning if leaving makes him in some way "bad". Than the realisation that Moomin verry likely loves someone else, so maybe leaving, despite all the struggles on the way, is a method to protect himself from his feelings. That just seems verry sad to me. But whenever he feels lonely or down, he can remember that there is a place he can come back to, with people that are important for him. Then when spring comes around, there is this pure euphoria about the fact that he can go back now. His reunion with Moomin is so cute, and the flashes of all their adventures are somewhat nostalgic. It's ewokes this short moment of happines. And then the end roles around.. and Snufkins expression just suggests that he knows time is running out and he will be leaving again soon. Then we get this last interaction with Moomin, and him leaving seems less like something he wants, and more like something he NEEDS to do. Leaving pains him, becouse a part of him wants to stay, but he's leaving non the less. And Moomin acceptd it, becouse at this point that's the only thing he can do. It's sad, and bittersweet, becouse he's leaving again, but leaving also means he will come back in spring. This howl video and song just paint the picture of a heart vs mind kind of situation, sort of. Where one half wants to stay, and the other wants to go, and returning is the only time both halfs are equaly happy. But that's obviously just how I interpretated things and how they make me feel xD Other people might have a completely different view point/reason for why this hurts/makes them sad xD
Bawled like a baby after the ending because not only is this animatic just that powerful, but I wish my life was somewhat like this. I don't really have a support system or friend group so I won't lie, it hurt a bit, but in a way where I was happy for Snufkin. Just made me look at my own life a little bit
Because I like many deeply relate to Snufkin and this animatic captured the emotion and the relationship so well with all of the heartbreak moments and the joys and past memories it feels really nostalgic and at the same time expectant and it just amazing. And because all of it is related to, it feels personal and hurts while being amazing

oh MY GOD IM GOING TO CRY!!! The perspective of the sequence at 2:00 absolutely blew me away and I just realized this entire thing is 6 minutes long oh MY GOSH?!? All the little character details like 3:40 where he's grabbing for the strap, or at 3:26 with the feather... I think my favorite part though is at 2:50, there's just so much emotion packed into those shots with Snufkin struggling in his travels. The song is also absolutely perfect, I'm shocked that I haven't ever heard it before and it's definitely going in the playlist. I don't even know how to put into words how this made me feel, but I wish I could subscribe twice after this.

As someone with wanderlust, this hits home(ha) but in all the right places. The way I see things you have to leave, no matter what, to enjoy what home felt like. Home can be anything, people, nature, a rock you once saw but to truly understand what that word means, you need a little bit of time to yourself. I mainly ask, sure you can have your home with you (like a tent) but is that really home? Each person will have their own experiences and opinions on what home means and thats the thrill, you make your home as you go. Snufkin has been a big inspiration for me to just do it and for those who also feel this way, i suggest you start small. Monthly or weekly camping will help. You'll soon find a way of doing what you love even if it means having to take a while to get there and thats just fine. Remember: You'll always have a home to return to at the end of every adventure.
I relate to Snufkin so much, I’m beginning a new chapter in my life and so much as been changing these past few months. I’m longing to explore the wide world on my own but I fear when I’m gone too long if I’ll be forgotten by those I love. It's been a long while since i've travelled into the moominvalley fandom and randomly remembering it I came across this and it's truly beautifully animated. Never seen it like this before. As someone who kinda kins Snuffkin and dreams of being a traveller, these feelings of being introverted, wanting to have friends yet not wanting to be caged by location nor people, that feeling that home to you is when your exploring but having a familiar place to go to, you've captured that quintessence and love well.

THIS IS PERFECT OH MY GODNCNENCIWIDNWKEUWO i dont know how else to say it im crying when snufkin was rushing back home and the places he was passing through carried memories of their adventures and after he arrived he had even more memories with them urghhhghfjdhcid SO PERFECT...so lovely, i feel this is a mixture of the 90's anime and the 2019 tv show right? After seeing the last episode of the third season, which I dragged out watching oh for so long, I can't help but feel that this is the end. All the logical character arcs have ended, the story of those beautiful creatures is told, and Moominvalley is already only a memory, even though this show has been a home to me for so long. I know season 4 has already been greenlighted, but I get a wrong feeling about it, that it's going to be worse than the rest. So maybe this is a goodbye. Even your tremendously incredible and beautiful animation that deserves all the love in the world seems like it. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world! I'll remember it for a long time

I've seen some really great animatics but this is a whole new level. The expressions, the body language, the little details like Snufkin barely missing his backpack's strap when he takes off running or Moomin's feet pointing to Snufkin when he's with Snorkmaiden, and the cinematic aspect!! The way you use transitions and camera movements is mesmerizing. Just really beautiful overall. Amazing work, thank you 💞
I'm not sure if the grid was meant to be there but when Snufkin looked at the stars it made it look like there was a roof over. And that got me thinking. Even tho he should feel free at that moment he might still be bound by his thoughts and feelings to Moomin/other things. He can never truly be free that man, even tho he so desperately craves it.

This was so beautiful! As someone who loves this show for its innocence and purity, I feel sad when people try to make it something its not. Theres a lot of weird fanart and fanfics out there that kind of take away from the childlike playfulness of what Tove made. Thats why I appreciate this. It retains the childlike wonder of the world I love the show for and emphasizes the bonds and hard emotions that make the characters so real. Amazing job and brilliant animation.

I just came across this, and since no one seemed to have answered this here yet, might as well give my two cents! ^^ (Let's see if I manage to put this stuff into words xD)
For me this video ewokes a rather bitter sweet feeling?
It's becouse of the mix between the lyrics and knowing these characters.
The beginning has this feeling of uncertainty, as if he's questioning if leaving everytime is something he really wants. He clearly missed Moomin during his travels, and with the lyrics it almost suggests him questioning if leaving makes him in some way "bad". Than the realisation that Moomin verry likely loves someone else, so maybe leaving, despite all the struggles on the way, is a method to protect himself from his feelings. That just seems verry sad to me.
But whenever he feels lonely or down, he can remember that there is a place he can come back to, with people that are important for him. Then when spring comes around, there is this pure euphoria about the fact that he can go back now. His reunion with Moomin is so cute, and the flashes of all their adventures are somewhat nostalgic. It's ewokes this short moment of happines.
And then the end roles around.. and Snufkins expression just suggests that he knows time is running out and he will be leaving again soon. Then we get this last interaction with Moomin, and him leaving seems less like something he wants, and more like something he NEEDS to do. Leaving pains him, becouse a part of him wants to stay, but he's leaving non the less. And Moomin acceptd it, becouse at this point that's the only thing he can do. It's sad, and bittersweet, becouse he's leaving again, but leaving also means he will come back in spring.
This howl video and song just paint the picture of a heart vs mind kind of situation, sort of. Where one half wants to stay, and the other wants to go, and returning is the only time both halfs are equaly happy.
But that's obviously just how I interpretated things and how they make me feel xD
Other people might have a completely different view point/reason for why this hurts/makes them sad xD

Bawled like a baby after the ending because not only is this animatic just that powerful, but I wish my life was somewhat like this. I don't really have a support system or friend group so I won't lie, it hurt a bit, but in a way where I was happy for Snufkin. Just made me look at my own life a little bit

Because I like many deeply relate to Snufkin and this animatic captured the emotion and the relationship so well with all of the heartbreak moments and the joys and past memories it feels really nostalgic and at the same time expectant and it just amazing. And because all of it is related to, it feels personal and hurts while being amazing

oh MY GOD IM GOING TO CRY!!! The perspective of the sequence at 2:00 absolutely blew me away and I just realized this entire thing is 6 minutes long oh MY GOSH?!? All the little character details like 3:40 where he's grabbing for the strap, or at 3:26 with the feather... I think my favorite part though is at 2:50, there's just so much emotion packed into those shots with Snufkin struggling in his travels. The song is also absolutely perfect, I'm shocked that I haven't ever heard it before and it's definitely going in the playlist. I don't even know how to put into words how this made me feel, but I wish I could subscribe twice after this.

This is absolutely stunning to the transitions between frames and the story you portray throughout this beautiful animation wow you deserve so much more hype cause this is gorgeous I also came back to say the little details are just mwah perfection they are so subtle yet loud
As someone with wanderlust, this hits home(ha) but in all the right places. The way I see things you have to leave, no matter what, to enjoy what home felt like. Home can be anything, people, nature, a rock you once saw but to truly understand what that word means, you need a little bit of time to yourself. I mainly ask, sure you can have your home with you (like a tent) but is that really home? Each person will have their own experiences and opinions on what home means and thats the thrill, you make your home as you go.
Snufkin has been a big inspiration for me to just do it and for those who also feel this way, i suggest you start small. Monthly or weekly camping will help. You'll soon find a way of doing what you love even if it means having to take a while to get there and thats just fine. Remember:
You'll always have a home to return to at the end of every adventure.
I relate to Snufkin so much, I’m beginning a new chapter in my life and so much as been changing these past few months. I’m longing to explore the wide world on my own but I fear when I’m gone too long if I’ll be forgotten by those I love. This animatic made me cry, the song is so beautiful, you captured Snufkin and Moomintroll’s relationship perfectly. Thank you for making this. It was so relatable and inspiring to me.

Immense respect for all the directions that i would not expect to see when clicking this the first time, like all the crazy good transitions, that part where snork flew his airship, and when snufkin stumbled while grabbing his bag in a hurry. I can tell you must have had to really get in the mood to visualize, plan, refine, draw and animate all of this. It’s inspiring

It's been a long while since i've travelled into the moominvalley fandom and randomly remembering it I came across this and it's truly beautifully animated. Never seen it like this before.
As someone who kinda kins Snuffkin and dreams of being a traveller, these feelings of being introverted, wanting to have friends yet not wanting to be caged by location nor people, that feeling that home to you is when your exploring but having a familiar place to go to, you've captured that quintessence and love well.

GOOOSH♡♡♡ Ugh I adore this♡ All of the expressions are amazing, and each transition between scenes felt so smooth. Also there were so many little moments that made each character feel so alive (one in particular was when Snuf went to pick up his backpack and missed it the first time.) Those little details make such a diffrence♡

THIS IS PERFECT OH MY GODNCNENCIWIDNWKEUWO i dont know how else to say it im crying when snufkin was rushing back home and the places he was passing through carried memories of their adventures and after he arrived he had even more memories with them urghhhghfjdhcid SO PERFECT...so lovely, i feel this is a mixture of the 90's anime and the 2019 tv show right? SO GOOD...im so emotional woww,,,the way snufkin's relationship with moomin (and everyone)is portrayed and his conflicting feelings...i love this so much😭😭😭 i haven't been super into moomins since 2020, but once in a while i still come back to them so seeing all those episodes i vaguely remember flashing through this animatic made me CRY.

After seeing the last episode of the third season, which I dragged out watching oh for so long, I can't help but feel that this is the end. All the logical character arcs have ended, the story of those beautiful creatures is told, and Moominvalley is already only a memory, even though this show has been a home to me for so long. I know season 4 has already been greenlighted, but I get a wrong feeling about it, that it's going to be worse than the rest. So maybe this is a goodbye. Even your tremendously incredible and beautiful animation that deserves all the love in the world seems like it. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world! I'll remember it for a long time
