Carnivore seemed to stop working for me. I am no doctor, I have no glucose monitor, I don't count calories. Keto did help at first, carnivore helped even more for a while,
but lately I started feeling (I can't even describe how I was feeling) It was sort of like a burning sensation, feverish but not a fever, Low energy low motivation.
I have now gone back to intermittent fasting and have added kimchi to my mostly carnivore diet. This seems to have solved my issues (at least so far). I feel much better now,
I do not have the time and or money to do all these tests and things. I can't even get an appointment with a real doctor who isn't a pill pusher. I have a strong distrust of the established medical community. Hope this helps someone.

Keto helped me at first also but I did use a glucose monitor. You can buy them OTC for $30 at any drugstore. My A1c went down at first but then I had what is 'morning phenomenon' where my own body churned out sugar and I woke to very high glucose levels even when extremely low carb. I would suggest you use a meter when you wake and one and two hours after a meal, just so you can see what is happening.

Thank you so much for your preface monolog before the interview started. I actually did not watch this video precisely because I have been doing keto/ketovore/carnivore for about 10 months. I was diagnosed with T2D in September last year and I attacked it vigorously with an HFLC diet and I've lost 130 pounds and my A1C went from 11.3 to 5.3 and my health only continues to improve. In my journey I recognize that my diet is not one that everyone can do. As I got more carnivore, I found that the same "one-size-fits-all mentality that has kept people unhealthy for 50+ years was so orevelant that I almost couldn't my interact meaningfully with people online anymore. But I also know that many people flounder in a sea of information. I knew from the get-go that I was going to do and I immediately silenced the din coming from the interwebs. I was going to do this undistracted and if it worked, great. If it didn't THEN I would look into something else. The problem isn't the myriad voices so much as the indecision that comes with trying to listen to all the voices. I know the path I am on is working. Again thanks for the encouragement to commit to something that is demonstrably working for people and avoid distraction.

I think that he's describing is the Randle Cycle. The cells are protecting themselves from damage by locking out the glucose because they already have enough energy. They're preventing themselves from glycation damage. So if you are going to eat carbs you better make sure you're not eating a bunch of fat with them. To me that is just not optimal. I would rather stick to an optimal low carb diet and fix the underlying derangements that are causing sleep issues or electrolyte issues, the hormone issues causing them to be stuck in glucosis. But I know this can be very challenging for everyone and sometimes it's easier just to add some carbs back in for relief.
But it's going to be really difficult to avoid that glycation damage if you're eating carbs and also getting fat. Well it could help in the short-term I think long-term you will see worse results.

Carbs are not needed in a human diet. We make glucose (180g appx). We make xylitol (15g appx). We make a few others but they have not been studied very well. Fiber in carbs is not digested, only animals can digest it. Carbs destroy our teeth by feeding the bacteria and making them "sticky" - I'm serious - ask Dr. Ellie Phillips who will explain how xylitol works. HbA1c can be affected by cell age, so cells that live longer are glycated more simply because they are healthier, so it seems logical that a carnivore that is not giving blood will have a higher HbA1c. But there are no vitamins or minerals in carbs. Those come from proteins (amino acids) and fats (fatty acids). Best solution is to just eat beef. Only beef. And once you are fat adapted and comfortable, start to eat it raw. If you must cook, just roll the steak on the pan for 15-20 seconds and leave the center cold, raw, and bloody. You will use less energy and I'm sure there is no stress for a human that is eating to his fill. Beef only is a great way to be sure you get everything you need.

Read most of the comments and it's amazing the level of intense hostility that some people show towards those who don't feel that they thrive on that person's favorite diet. It's like a religion, you must follow what i follow or you'll go to hell..
It seems like many people have invested their identity into their chosen diet so that when someone doesn't praise their chosen diet they feel personally offended, like it's a threat to their very existence, which explains the intense hostility shown. After all, If i identified my existence with a certain way of doing things or a certain position or belief, then any disagreeing with this position immediately feels like a threat to my existence (because the identification made it so that this position equals me), and such a feeling of threat to my existence obviously leads to a very hostile response. It's totally like a religion..

    • @jd01665
      @jd01665 23 дні тому

Understand your point of view. I've suggested to UA-cam to make a kialo style interface for the comments so we can see better what's happening and categorize the comments. I think people that are trying carnivore are in pain and everybody (USA government, world health organization, French government, parents, family, doctors, etc.) suggests to eat plants. There are very few people that say "Try 90 days of beef only and see how it goes". So by the time people arrive here, they are already in pain from allergies, antibiotics, etc. They have tried so many plants or diets that their digestive systems are all over the place. Nothing is specific. However, when you find and try beef only, and it solves all your problems, and you realize that everybody pushing carbs is lying to you or else ignorant (like your parents), and you add to that your improved brain function, it's easy to shutdown everybody else. For example, now after just 4 years of beef only where I am now to a point where I eat all the meat raw, I realize the lies have no end. So, I shut down everybody that claims plants are a solution if you buy my book or join my course so I can show you how to do it right. I think that stuff is all fraudulent. Not only do the vegans not have the moral high ground, they don't even have the best interest of the Earth in place in their dogma. Putting my money into a local farm producing grass fed beef means that I give no support to industry for plants (supermarkets, cigarettes, alcohol, drugs, antibiotics, etc.) My money goes to the farmers that raise the animals on the natural grass land and plants. They are doing the work to protect the land for the animals and therefore they are the only ones that deserve my vote. I buy direct. I receive fresh. I have no waste except for the plastic sous-vide bags the beef arrives in and those get melted down and recycled. The bones go into my garden. It can perhaps feel like a religion because it's like a miracle. I was so depressed before. I had pain in my joints all the time. Making a fist was painful. Sitting at a desk was painful. My back and neck muscles were always stiff. I was trying different kinds of mice and keyboards to fix the carpel tunnel etc. I had rashes. I would be sneezing due to pollen in the air. Eyes itching, etc. Just month after month after money and then I started to forget things. Pin codes. Phone numbers. Meetings, etc. It was getting really super depressing and stressful. My knees were killing me after just 15 minutes of running. I had kidney stones. Itchy ears. Plaque on my teeth. Teeth that were cracking. Today, I don't even brush my teeth unless I need to show off. And when I do, they are perfectly white with perfect gums. It's amazing. And the more I think about it in terms of religion, the more I think you are right. The bible talks about not eating the fruit and people have all kinds of symbolic ideas about those stories from sex to real fruit. But we know that these bacteria in our bodies do control so much of what happens to us. It's no wonder that what we eat can have an impact. The bacteria that are good for a plant might not be bacteria that is good for a human. Humans do not need fiber/carbs in plants. They make their own glucose and sugars the body needs, so these are not essential in the diet. So if we want to feed a human body properly, we should consider what does it actually need. Those bacteria create everything we need. They are the real creators. So, if there is some idea of a "religion" in our body, it's probably important that we think about what is going in and what it will create while it is there. Beef only is a great way to start because it is the only diet today that is complete with one ingredient. Everything else requires more wisdom (tree of knowledge?) and the jury is out as to whether it will really make you die or not. Everything produced from plants is evil (cigarettes, alcohol, sugar addictions causing diabetes and cancer etc.) and producing plants requires us to remove trees from the land in order to run tractors. Seems much more intelligent to leave the land in place, let the cows, goats, sheep run around and eat that stuff. So, be patient with the carnivores. They are just discovering a new world they didn't know existed. Perhaps you didn't know it existed either. I'm sure nobody has explored it enough whatever the case happens to be.

    • @Daniel-pr4uk

@@jd01665 I'm happy that carnivore works for you, but kindly realize that that doesn't mean that it works for everyone or is the right way for everyone. Many people (including me and including the person she is interviewing) have been on carnivore for years and found that it isn't optimal for us. Not all people's genetics are the same and not all people thrive on carnivore.
And it's not like we're ignorant of what you're saying. The person interviewed and myself have been carnivore for years, I used to say the exact same things you're saying here. I shunned carbs and used to think it's the source of all evil. We're not ignorant people who promote carbs without knowing the facts and we are absolutely not against meat. Absolutely not. Both he and me still eat lots of meat. It doesn't have to be "you're either 100% meat or you're anti-meat". Not at all..
But anyway, my comment was saying something more fundamental than that. It was talking about the way identification with a certain position of belief works, and the inevitable consequences of such identification (the inevitable consequences of making my existence equal to a certain position/belief).

I am suspicious of prescription drugs because I personally experienced bad side effects. So I recently found out that some of these prescription ls can actually cause insulin sensitivity and diabetes. Many psychiatric drugs and also steroids as well as some others. So some people might actually have a body imbalance from their prescription medications without realizing it. Those results can be permanent. However, hopefully the body can heal over time when given the right environment. When I was in my 20’s they prescribed antidepressants for social anxiety. A perspective I'd like to hear Jay's thoughts on is how he reconciles his recommendations for a high-carb, high-sugar diet when we know it's bad for oral health? Does he think that even though it rots your teeth it's good for your body? Does this not create some cognitive dissonance?
Even Ray Peat (who I assume is his go-to source of info) had to discover this the hard way.
If you look up images of Ray, you'll see he smiled with his mouth closed. People who have suffered from poor oral health, consciously or unconsciously, often don't smile with their teeth.
Others defend Peat, saying he wrecked his teeth earlier in his life, maybe, I don't know the whole story, but there are many in Peat's forum with questions like:
"I've been experiencing some tooth decay and gum sensitivity on a 'peaty' diet."
To me, to argue for a diet that is bad for your teeth because it is somehow good for your overall health is a precarious argument to make...
It's an argument diametrically opposed to our evolutionary biology and millions of years of selective pressures that forged strong teeth.
If your diet rots your teeth, the hardest substance in your body, it's a pretty big red flag that the diet isn't optimal.

@@PeaceIsYeshua just listened to it, overall, I agree with much of what they say, which is basically eat a nutrient rich diet (i.e. animal foods - yes!) and then some strategies to mitigate the cariogenic impact of their high carb diet (such as not drinking juice throughout the day which some Peat advocates advocate for). So basically they recognize their high sugar diet is cariogenic and thus need strategies to prevent the degradation of oral health, which is back to my point, this makes no sense in a first principles evolutionary biology perspective.

Wonderful to listen to someone that recognises that there is no one size that fits all. Personally, I tried keto and it made me very ill. After 3 weeks I had no energy, felt like death warmed up, and my liver enzymes were very high.
On a more plant based diet, ( with occasional eggs or fish) I felt amazing! I had so much energy, all aches and pains gone, was running up the stairs 2 at a time and my eyes were bright and skin was glowing! Weight came down, 2lbs every week, and my blood tests were perfect.
So that’s what works for me but I equally recognise that keto or carnivore works well for other people.

Yes, beef only is hard. I tried for 90 days and forced myself to do it. So glad I did. Nobody around me has been able to accomplish that. Not one friend or family. They all still have their medications and I'm free, not only of meds, but also of supplements and the supermarket. Found a grass-fed co-op that can take care of the animals and send me part of one fresh each week. Even eating the meat raw now, which is amazing to spend no time cooking anymore. No need to brush my teeth or use toothpaste anymore because no carbs in my diet. And no more pain, no more skin issues, like you. That's the big deal. Joints, muscles, everything are 100% perfect and I can work for hours and hours without any fatigue or need to eat. No waste either since the bones go in the garden and the plastic beef packaging gets recycled or used to repair stuff. The muscle growth has been amazing also. I don't exercise, but I lost all the fat in my belly and groin and no amount of situps would have produced the abs and chest that I have today.

How can blood sugars increase in the absence of carbohydrates? It's called gluconeogenesis. Your body will get the glucose it needs from somewhere and that somewhere in the absence of carbohydrates will mainly come from the breakdown of proteins and lipids. The reason why the blood sugars drop when you introduce a little carbohydrate into the diet is because you trigger an increase in insulin which in turn decreases the blood sugars. The reason this occurs in these people is because they need more insulin due to them being insulin resistant. Cutting out all the carbs drops their insulin levels too low to control the blood sugars that are being converted by the body. Hope that makes sense. BTW, I have been in healthcare 30+ years trained in integrative functional medicine and hold a PhD in human physiology.
Wanted to add one more thing after watching a little bit more of the video. In short, a healthy person SHOULD be metabolically flexible without causing an increase in cortisol. For example, you want your body going in and out of ketosis on a daily basis. Simply put, burning glycogen for fuel during the day and burning fat at night while asleep. Your body SHOULD NOT produce high levels of cortisol just because you are on a low or zero carb diet. Your body is designed to cope with this by way of gluconeogenesis. Now, jumping from a high carb diet to carnivore overnight may trigger an initial stress response, but your body will quickly adapt. The human race would be extinct if it didn't! The main reasons for increased cortisol are from not taking in enough calories, eating junk food, too much exercise, not enough sleep, emotional stress, and other physical stress like infections, disease, etc...

Not true. Diabetics that restrict carbs may have a slight lowering in their blood glucose, but it is still elevated. Where is the glucose coming from? Elevation of chronic stress hormones since glucose is not being utilized properly. The body cannot create enough energy to supply the stress demands, thus elevation of stress hormones which increase blood glucose is elevated chronically. The blood glucose is a symptom, not so much a problem. So ingesting more sugar on top of that isn’t harmful and is actually beneficial.

If I need 150 grams of Carbs daily "just to fuel my brain" but I'm only eating 120 grams and my blood glucose is 130 (from those carbs), why does the body not use the sugar in the blood to fuel those needed 150 daily grams and balance my blood glucose level. Assuming these are perfect, clean carbs (lentils, whole foods, etc).

The “carnivore” space on UA-cam is starting to get crowded and views are harder to get. The new trend is to take advantage of all the carb addicts that want to be told that it’s ok to eat carbs again and go back to getting those dopamine hits. Saladino saw the opening and was one of the first to jump on it. He knows good and well that most people that are seeking health advice online are people that have problems and telling them to eat a bunch of fruit and honey is like telling a drug addict to just have a couple small hits.

I couldn't sleep more than 2-5 hrs of interrupted sleep (having racing heart) during 15 months of carnivore. It took a MASSIVE toll on my health. I tried everything possible to fix it. I've been following carnivore content since 2018 and I've watched thousands of carnivore videos by now plus I've had carnivore coaches so it's not like I "did it wrong" like some people might think. I had no choice but to reintroduce carbs bcs I was a complete wreck after the stress that my body went through.
But with that said...I can't resolve my health issues (Hashimotos, asthma, fibromyalgia) on "pro metabolic" or animal based either so it's a catch 22. I sleep better and that's ofc very important but I still wish that I could go completely carnivore again bcs I feel like I can't reverse my autoimmune issues and other health issues otherwise.
Plus I have signs of insulin resistance and I haven't been able to reverse that either on "pro-metabolic" or animal based. You have to then keep the fats very low, or rather low, if you eat lots of carbs and I've tried that aswell. For a couple of years before carnivore! (Following the "pro metabolic" approach.)
It has been confusing as f to listen to the opposite views of low carb/carnivore and "pro-metabolic" but I instinctively feel like lower carb is the more natural approach. It feels very unnatural to eat that much fruits/juices/honey that pro-metabolic suggests. (And/or some starches if tolerated.) Plus I hate to have to moderate fats to the degree that you have to on that approach. Right now I'm somewhere in between and that's probably not a good idea either. (Randle cycle.) But I still have to have some carbs to not crash. I'm dealing with ongoing oxalate dumping aswell so that also messes with everything. It's rough.😵‍💫

I can relate. Though, I attribute the stress mostly to under-eating. I was "eating to satiety" as the gurus tell you, but once I calculated it, it was 1200-1500 calories. Around half of what I need. I can't afford to eat enough, so I add 20-50 grams of carbs which is a temp. help.

    • @ZackRamsey14
      @ZackRamsey14 Місяць тому

Nice to see you again Cammie lol. I wouldn't worry about the Randle cycle too much, it becomes a problem for very metabolically damaged people OR we're talking like 150+ grams of fat and 300+ grams of carb a day. That could start to cause issues but that's difficult to do.
For myself, pro metabolic eating revealed to me that MY issue was thyroid related. This can cause all kinds of odd side effects that may seem like food intolerances. Took me 3 months slowly crawling out of carnivore and having all kinds of weird side effects until everything flipped and I feel better than I ever have and haven't looked back. I wonder what else you do in your life and what you mainly eat? Starch doesn't always do me good. Neither does veg. Not all fruit either. Bacon and eggs don't always like me either. I stick to like 90% beef for my meat and the rest is some potato, OJ, dates, milk, ocassional fruit and veg. Roughly 250-300 grams of carb a day. Carrots, mango, melon, grapes. I dont do well with apples, pears, banana, pineapple, spinach, the list starts to get lengthy lol. People look at me like I'm crazy but OJ was my main carb source when switching. Very high in B vitamins which is great for metabolism and thyroid, but also low in fiber and fodmaps so it shouldn't cause much issue digestively. I can only speak to my experience, I hope this helps Cammie. When I tried potato and whole fruit as my MAIN carb source, I was bloated, fatigued, foggy etc so I get it trust me

I found his downplaying of fat and ketones quite extraordinary as we know mitochondria use all three very efficiently. He also seems to think locking fuel sources out of the cell when it is replete is because of broken mitochondria but doesn't explain why he thinks they got broken. Its more logical that they are simply protecting the cell against excess glycation damage.

Fruits and vegetables are also technically carbs and I do eat them daily, but trying a higher soluable fibre to insoluable fibre ratio. I walk around 10K steps daily, so I thinking I am well covered. Feeling good and no urge for more starchy carbs despite the quite rarely 2 slices of thin crust pizza or a burger once a month or two. To avoid taking too much EVOO just in case the ones I am taking is not pure enough, I eat olives too. Inline with the "directly from the source" mentality, I suppose.

These people regurgitate existing information on the internet and are strategically biased. Look at his bio and what he is trying to sell. Pay attention to the details. When he is vague and is fence sitting, he is regurgitating BS. Lots of false, shallow, misleading statements. Don't let the title of this video scare you from doing something that works for most people. Just because it doesn't work for 1% of people doesn't mean it doesn't work.
This video gives you the impression that a lot of people fail on the carnivore diet or animal based diet but that is not true. it might make you want to start to eat more carbs - over 200g per pay? Snack on sweets at night? Eat 4x per day?
No two people are the same - stop generalizing your theoretical perception of the perfect diet for everybody, at all ages, with different predisposition for medical problems
If you want to help people then stop baiting and selling your services.
Diabetes is the #1 cause of CVD and stroke, and is the number one cause of death. Diabetes is caused by excessive carbs intake- how much is too much? That's different for each person - mostly likely not 200g per day.
If you eat more carbs because of this video then it is doing you a disservice.

Currently I eat 20-30 grams of carbs, mainly just to have some water/mineral retention. But don't feel superhuman, as I did in the beginning on Carnivore. I miss the Carnivore Zen Superhuman mode. My plan is to try zero carb again, but this time make sure I eat A LOT more!

It's worth knowing that a carnivore diet (or even low-carb) with significant dairy can cause low energy, hair thinning, bad memory, cramps, feel-the-cold, and some other symptoms. This is because of an obscure form of hypothyroidism caused by too much iodine rather than too little. Also an up to 13 point reduction in IQ. Recovery is within 2 weeks of cutting the dairy; the iodine is put on the teats at the milking stage and difficult to avoid. The threshold for this effect is 1400-1700ug of iodine a day in a norm carber but very much lower in low-carbers. Sugar increases need of iodine (as it does C), so resulting in some carnivores being convinced that the anthropology must be of meat and fruit. Eg. Saladino. However, the evidence is that ancient fruits were small and sour and had little sugar.

@@lorettamargaret2243 This is in the context of carnivore/keto, not a normal diet, and where the need of iodine is much lower. In any case, it's very easily tested. Cut out all dairy and see what happens within 2 weeks.

What types of carbs should one add back in? Fruit? I definitely don't want to do grains...

Whole ripe fruits, fresh pressed juices, raw honey, some tolerated tubers/roots, raw dairy

Thanks for this video. I have been intermittent fasting for several years now. It has helped me control my weight and I think it may have caused my thyroid problem. My thyroid function over the last few years has really decreased. I will have to rethink my intermittent fasting plan.

You are massively ignorant. Humans eat carbs. Broken humans who have 100 excess pounds of carbohydrates storage on their bodies need to not eat carbohydrates because they ate enough for 50 people. Once you come back down to normal human being weight, you eat carbs.

Bloodtype related intolerances is imho the answer to why some are in bliss with carnivore and others with vegan , and others with makrobiotic....but all share 1 common thing: that don't eat junkfoods and drinks , industrial fake transformed foods , seedoils , refined flours , refined sugars....❤❤❤❤

Carnivore did not work for me and now I can say for sure it was because of the internal stress a no carb diet can induce and the corresponding side effects: poor sleep, exhaustion, low thyroid function (my resting heart rate dropped from 60bpm to 48!), cold all the time, etc. My body just felt it was in a low energy environment….love that phrase! To the carnivores out there that are thriving with no carbs: kudos to you: you are biologically adapted to thriving on that diet but you do no good by judging those of us that can’t.

    PQQ and obesity-associated metabolic diseases
AMPK is a key cellular energy regulator that plays a crucial role in maintaining cellular energy homeostasis (Hardie, 2014). Given its impact on AMPK and mitochondrial function described in Section 3, PQQ has considerable potential for treating numerous metabolic diseases including diabetes, NAFLD, and CKD.
Moreover, PQQ influences insulin signaling via multiple pathways and increases glucose absorption via glucose transporter translocation. Thus, studies suggest that PQQ may be beneficial in insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes (Akagawa et al., 2016).

Also this stress response when carbs r missing is just because all these people in the studies r used to eating much more carbs… a diet swap always stresses the body out… people that r used to keto don’t have high cortisol no more… the only case that happens is if u r incredible lean for a long time, but that occurs on any diet

Low carb never worked for me. Fear around carbs is making people very unbalanced. Sleep, mood and energy are so important.

Jay Feldman, Craig Walker, Strong Sistas, Georgi Dinkov and Danny Roddy have their pro-carb (carrots, potatoes, juices) opinions that stem from an intriguing man who recently passed: Ray Peat. We don’t know everything about the human body folks. If Keto/Carnivore works for you, keep doing it.
