i guess im asking randomly but does someone know a trick to get back into an Instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the account password. I would appreciate any help you can give me!
I had a Galant. Rust killed it in the end - big problem with those cars. But I LOVED my Galant. Beautiful looking car with excellent road manners. That shape will always have a place in my heart. A VR4 is still on my bucket list to own some day. Can't believe they only sold around 2000 a year with looks like that.
I can attest to that! I had a Chrysler Sebring coupe that was built by Mitsubishi on the same platform and assembly line as the Galant and Eclipse. It was an awesome car and handled like it was on rails. Even though the 3.0 v6 was “only” rated at 200HP it still kicked ass, the only let down was the odd gearing in the auto trans (Mitsu automatics are just, weird). It was my first car, bought it with super low miles and about 7 years old. Had some concerning underbody rust, but I totaled it a couple years later after I put 45k enjoyable miles on it. I’d still love to have another Mitsubishi car on that same platform with the v6 and 5 speed someday, but decent Galant/Eclipse/Stratus/Sebrings are hard to come by these days in the US.
I still own a Nissan Almera. Jason is right, it is a very under rated car, has never let me down driving up and down to Scotland many times from the south coast.
I have one too And somehow it managed to survive all these year on the roads we have here in Mexico The thing is the paint falls easily with hot climates
Awe well Britains loss. In Ireland drivers here loved the Almera and Toledo and the Galent model before that model was very popular too. No idea why that model was not. I think it might have been to do with price or engine range compared to the model it replaced.
This model Galant in Sedan and Wagon versions was highly popular here in New Zealand. Theres still heaps of them running around in 2020. Same goes for the Nissan which was sold as a Pulsar here.
I recently bought a second hand Mitsubishi Galant from 2003. Absolute beauty of a car but not cheap in maintenance, with only 200 of my model currently still driving in my country spare parts are worth their weight in gold
Well, it's the way around: the Leon came out after the Toledo, so it's more proper to say that the Leon is a Toledo-based hatchback. Something similar happened with the BMW 3-series Compact or with the Daewoo Nubira Compact, all of them are compact cars based on mid-size ones
The Gallant with the 2.4L 4 Cylinder was really good if you could keep the rust away from it. I kinda liked that generation of Toledos, but stay far away from the V(R)5 Engine, they were crap and not at all related to the great inline 5 from Audi.
I've always had an appreciation for these 'underdog' type cars. I currently own a 2003 Almera 2.2 diesel. The one that is currently my avatar. It's OK but has been an absolute money pit. It's had a tough early life once I bought it at 6 years old and 66,000 miles and it now has 97,000 miles. I prefer the colour of the one Jason driven (drove?) in the video. Instead of the Almera I would have been tempted by a Galant like the one in the video. My sister had a SEAT Toledo V5 identical to that one, albeit with the 150 bhp engine. Unfortunately she crashed it into some innocent motorist and wrote it off.
Got a V5 toledo now and it had some serious Child Abuse in previous years, everything still works to a certain degree though and super smooth engine. Eats through coils and heater matrixes but a small price to pay.
Westminster Bridge. This was long before walking across this bridge would be considered a target for terrorists with extremist views...in fact, this was summer 2001 so it was before 9/11 too. I hired a canal boat that summer, it was wonderful (except for the foot and mouth closures affecting some areas) and Britain basked in glorious weather when I was there. My hired car was a Focus estate - not bad, really. At home on the motorway or the bendy roads of Wales. The last summer where there were no worries about terrorism or global pandemics.
The Clarkson-era TG was great for a laugh - stupid adventures and ridiculous challenges - but let’s be honest it wasn’t a good car show. The older version was better in a way because they actually told you informative facts and figures about cars that most people would actually be buying or at least could consider. Yeah, the McLaren F1 might be an absurdly fast car but can you afford one? How many people can? Unloved Almeras? There is some good advice.
Yeah I liked this era of top gear but 'banter' can only carry you so far before you've made every possible joke and gone stale. Clarkson especially became some sort of flanderized sitcom character. Yes we know, gypsies, gays, fucking hilarious, can I have a review of some cars now?
Interestingly, in neighbouring Ireland, which is of course culturally quite similar to the UK, these three cars all sold rather well. Irish people have a thing for Japanese reliability, so despite the Almera's dullness, it was actually a big selller. They also like the saloon versions of cars much more than the British, so the Toledo sold well (if not as well as the Leon) and cars like the Megane saloon never fared too badly in terms of sales either.
Availability, pricing and market saturation were likely factors in that contrast. Here in the UK there was endless choice in the 1st & 2nd hand markets, so if a car didn't grab the customer with a standput feature, price or endearing aspect of character... the competition would.
Charles Kennedy, leader of the Liberal Democrats at the time of the 2001 General Election. He sadly passed away in 2015 not too long after losing his seat to an arrogant Scottish National Party member (The Fort William constituency I think it was). I thought Charles was a very good orator and politicians - as far as British Politicians go. One of a kind. Coincidentally, David Cameron became an MP at the 2001 General Election, so just after that segment was recorded!
The Almera is one of those Lib' Dem' cars, that because they repeatedly came in 3rd or 4th on everything, stayed there. After all when you're less well known and selling less than Ford's Focus, Rover's 25 or Vauxhall's Astra... there's got to be something wrong somewhere. The Almera's issue was that its styling was boring and undistinctive (even for the early 00's), and didn't have any features that stood out from the competition.
The Mitsubishi Galant VR4 was the top package in the Galant line. Had a subtle upgraded aero package but came with the same Twin Turbo V6 engine that the famed 3000GT contained. Both Amazing vehicles for the time
Funny thing, watching this vidéo while having been lent a 20 yo almera after european much younger italian pièce of shit stopped working for thé 10th Time.. almera runs smooth, does not leak at all, gearbox is still working liké butter.. on thé other hand two différent mechanics cannot even find out whats wrong with thé bloody JTD :D.. You have to admit the Galant is quite a nice looking car. Its a shame that Mitsubishi don't make cars like it anymore.
I loved the Galant. Still looks good 16 years on. It's a shame Mitsubishi doesn't seem to sell family sized cars like this in the UK.
I am owner of Galant sport and i like that car

Still see those 00-03 Almeras riding on the roads from time to time, they certainly are reliable
I live in Spain and i got a Nissan Almera from 2001. The best car ive had. So reliable. I got the 1.8 petrol engine. Not too fast but wonderful sound
Great nissan engines back then 👍
100,000x better than the newer Nissans
had a 2.2 flyer:)
have a galant v6 5 sp estate in storage 55k miles and leathery gorgeousness

I miss my galant. One good looking motor. It was really rare where I'm from and people always mistook it for the more common lancer!
Really rare everywhere!

I love the steering wheel in the galant
I'm not going to sell my Galant 8. I drive it almost for 7 years and I never had an impression that I begin to lose my love to it.

It's amazing the appalling video quality we put up with back then
The UK built Almera was exported to Australia and sold as the Nissan pulsar Q, was pretty pricey compared to the sedan therefore wasn't as popular
