Very good review!! I use to build Sci-Fi model kits, but b/c of finances & a sporatic schedule, I had to put the hobby on hold. I'm hopeful to get back into this fun hobby by this Summer. This is one of the kits that I'd like to take another shot at, so I thank you for posting this video.
MGK, It's not optional construction. You would have to modify the wing roots! PS, please subscribe if you haven't already to help us reach more modelers. -Doug
Can you give a real quick rundown on how you painted the red feathers on the underside of the wings at 6:24? I mean, how did you paint them so neatly without the paint running into the crevices? I assume you individually masked them all carefully and then airbrushed them? I have tried to paint them with just a fine pint brush and no masking and lets just say mine look like a drunken 2nd graded painted them...
Matt, These were painted by hand with a fine brush. I used a thicker (enamel) paint and there was enough relief to keep the paint on the raised surface. It was then coated with a clear flat spray. -Doug
@@RightOnReplicas I was so desperate for an easy way I even thought of getting one of those 3 inch foam paint rollers (for house painting) and trying to roll on the red hoping it wouldnt ooze down into the cracks almost like silk screening. But anyways, it didn't work. I also used a glossy red and it looked like strawberry jam it was so thick and shiny and nasty... Thanks for getting back to me... Great job
Matt, Years ago when we used printing presses for things they sold a small soft rubber (jelly-like) roller to apply print dyes to the print blocks. Something like that might work! -Doug
I have a 1995 Generations version of this model. Sad thing is, the decal sheet is ruined as when I got it, it was pulled out of a partly flooded garage and it was sitting in a stack on the floor with it being the one on the bottom. Because of this, I have been at a standstill with it. I don't know if or how I can get a replacement of them or not. I tried contacting the manufacture of it and even offered to pay for it after truthfully explaining things to them. But I was declined from them and I have not been able to find anyone or any seller who would sell them to me.
I have for years. And yeah. But I guess I still will. I have been researching some more as my spark to research this reignited and I think I'm on to something. I will see if I could remember to let you know what it is if it proves to be the way to get it done or not. Thanks! -Alex
Follow up. I found Round 2's web site and I wound up opening comms with them. And I found that they only had the decals for this kit. So, I just went with it and now I'm awaiting it to come in the mail. I also found another online on ebay that has paint, glue, and a paint brush included with it. Just hope that it will have survived all these years. Because I bought that one. This is the kit that I bought off of ebay: www.scalemates.com/kits/165316-amt-ertl-8015-klingon-bird-of-prey This is the kit that I got from my friend who had a flooded garage issue: www.scalemates.com/kits/135350-amt-ertl-8230-klingon-bird-of-prey After a little bit, I am thinking about buying the round 2 model.
@@RightOnReplicas this is my second sci-fi kit ever. And the biggest project I have ever done. I've painted details before, but never the entire thing. This was new. I'm also lighting it up with led's. Another first and im also will be doing a diorama. This is the biggest project I have ever done and so far I'm loving it. Definitely more to come in the future. Part 4 of my build premiers tonight at 4pm Mountain time.
I never understood why they didn't may the radiator baffles mobile so you could change the position of the wings. I had to scratch build mine to do it and it was a pain but, well worth it.
I do believe H.M.S. Bounty from Star Trek III and IV was a B'rel class with a crew compliment of 12. The K'vort was a much larger ship with a much higher compliment.
The paint callouts are actually identical in both releases, actually: Model Master Pale Green for the basecoat, then a number of panels picked out with MM Green Zinc Chromate. The pale green is actually a very good start, but with all of the references we have now, gzc isn't the best choice...some blue-green and light gray panels are much more faithful to the original studio model :)
I like to watch your videos to peek inside the box along with you. Keep it up!
Thanks Richard, I'll keep them coming so tune in often! -Doug

OC, It will be great to have you back. Start simple and ease into it. You have fun! -Doug
Can the wings bend to attack position?

Right On Replicas Well decals came. But it was not for the Klingon Bird of prey. It was sheet 5 of NCC-1701-A. Grr!
Not bad! I'm building this bird too as well as featuring it on my channel!
JRH, Love the Sci-Fi kits, they are very cool! -Doug

JR, An excellent project! -Doug
At 5:26, it looks like the landing bay doors were swapped?
ACV,
Gotta tell ya, I do not remember but it could happen! -Doug

TK, Sounds like a great idea! -Doug
i made mine out of the variable capacitors from an old tube radio
B'Rel class? Or K'Vort?
MG - That's a good question. Does anybody know? -Duog
I do believe H.M.S. Bounty from Star Trek III and IV was a B'rel class with a crew compliment of 12. The K'vort was a much larger ship with a much higher compliment.
Thanks for this video, I just started this model and the instructions are terible. Callouts are wrong, illustrations confusing, etc.
Thanks MDJ, and please subscribe if you haven't already, to help us continue our mission to inspire more modelers! -Doug!
The pagh?
NH, Is that the opposite of hgap? -Doug
The IKS Pagh. That was the Bird of Prey Commander Riker served on in an officer exchange program in the Season 2 episode, "Matter of Honor."
The amt version had the main color a metallic green, and testors made the color, round 2's color are terrible
The color suggestion from amt was green zinc chromite from testors model masters series
EA, thanks for the tip! -Doug
EA, that's the beauty of modeling. You can always correct things on your own build! -Doug
