  • A double build here, took me quite a long time to get these done. The in flight BoP is the Round 2 release, and the "Attack" BoP is the AMT kit. Both were really fun to build. I really enjoyed my time on these kits. For more details on the build and walk around gallery check out the R2C9 Blog here:rebelsatcloudni...

      I’ve just bought that exact same model, straight out of the 90’s. It’s the next one to build on my list. I’ve gotta buy the right colors first. I like the metallic look you’ve given it.

    Glad to know that someone uses metal tubing for the pipes and guns barrel too. Since the plastic is not perfectly cylinder

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 років тому

      There were some nasty injector pin marks in the plastic, and I wasn't as happy with the smaller plastic barrels. It took me a while to get them all cut and put together, but I think it was worth it. :)

      The guns on these models are usually crap , sometimes bent or warped , also the smaller the bird the crappier the detail and quality is suspect..Bigger is better !..?lol

    Nice work! More patience than I'd have with the underside of the wings. When I did this kit ages ago, I back-painted the transparencies in red (Photon Launcher) and Blue (Exhaust) then picked out the framework in metallics. Whish I still had that one...

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 років тому

      It took me just over a week to get all that red masked off. By the end I was able to do a wing in under 6 hours. I'd really like to get another one. And build it landed, and paint "Bounty" on the side. For that one (whenever it'l be) I'll be hand brushing most of the colors, especially the red ha ha :)

    • @ssgtslick
      @ssgtslick 7 років тому

      "Bounty" may be a trick to make look spray painted at that scale. As fir the I hand brushed it, and all the "off color" panels, then airbrushed a top coat to blend, forget the color. I used the late, lamented Poly Scale paints, :( . Again, nice work.

    I have a 1995 Generations version of this model. Sad thing is, the decal sheet is ruined as when I got it, it was pulled out of a partly flooded garage and it was sitting in a stack on the floor with it being the one on the bottom. Because of this, I have been at a standstill with it. I don't know if or how I can get a replacement of them or not. I tried contacting the manufacture of it and even offered to pay for it after truthfully explaining things to them. But I was declined from them and I have not been able to find anyone or any seller who would sell them to me.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  6 років тому

      That's odd, I've heard that the Round 2 customer service is quite helpful. I tried searching for Bird of Prey decals and I couldn't find any online. However there are quite a few companies that make decals for the Klingon Battle Cruiser, and these are nearly identical to the ones I got with the BoP, minus the decals for the black joints on the wings.

    • @evilwarcow
      @evilwarcow 6 років тому

      rebelsatcloudnine I was able to get in touch with round 2 And they told me that they could send me the decals. So I went ahead and got them ordered. This was after a few hours of research and running into dead end after dead ends.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  6 років тому

      Awesome, very glad to hear you were able to get some decals. Best of luck with the build. It's not a perfect kit, but it is a very fun build :D

    • @evilwarcow
      @evilwarcow 6 років тому

      Well decals came. But it was not for the Klingon Bird of prey. It was sheet 5 of NCC-1701-A. Grr!

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  6 років тому

      Darn, that's a win and a lose, that's a valuable decal sheet, especially all 5. But man that's frustrating. I just put in for a replacement set for my D7 Battle Cruiser. The decals didn't stick properly and then cracked. I'm really annoyed as I nearly had the thing done. I hope they get back to me soon. I really want to finish this model.

    I was curious, how did you mask off the underside of the wing so precise? Also, what brand of tweezers are you using to remove the tape?

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 років тому

      Hi James. I placed the tape down and then either using the dull end of my metal file, Tamiya paint stirrer, or finger nail. I pressed around the shape and got the impression. Then I used a sharp new hobby blade to carefully cut around. I can't remember the brand name for the tweezers, but they are non magnetic. Search "Non magnetic tweezers" on ebay, and you'll find tons for sale out of China, for a few dollars. Basically these are the same thing.

    Working on the same kit.
    Did you notice there is a problem in the cruise mode?
    the radiator baffles don't fit on the smooth area of the wings... you will have a strip of 4mm smoothed area exposed. If you use the baffles for the landed and/or the attack mode, those will cover the entire smoothed area of the top wings.
    I think AMT made a huge mistake here... I can't make it in cruise mode

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  6 років тому

      I used the Round 2 Version of the BoP for the cruise mode, and I remember that I did have to make a few modifications. I think I just ended up using superglue. Worst was the AMT version that I built at the same time as the wings are totally wrong. AMT molded them to be completely level, instead of slightly raised. It's certainly not the best kit by any regards, but it its doable.

    • @BNTmodels
      @BNTmodels 6 років тому

      I've got the AMT version as round2 is not easily obtainable in the Netherlands.
      I think I will be making the landed version.
      I am also making a video series of the build, and this flaw is certainly going to be addressed, as is the flaw that in the instructions they omitted to identify the parts or mention which baffle goes on which wing

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  6 років тому +1

      What' nice about the Round 2 version is they added a nicer round display base. The AMT kit it's a Klingon letter and a bit wobbly, which was why I made it in the attack position. The other nice thing Round 2 did was add the option of the BoP landed and the metal landing gear parts. I'd still like to buy a 3rd kit and built that version.

    • @BNTmodels
      @BNTmodels 6 років тому

      I am currently in the editing process of episode2. In that video I address the 3 mistakes and/or blunders AMT did on those baffles.
      ua-cam.com/video/k2M-G5GuxSY/v-deo.html
      I've made peace with it, because the mistakes in the kit forced me to make a landed version, which answered the question where to put the batteries for the lights... in the diorama!

    Very cool. I have to agree with Scale Modeling USA though, since I learn more when you talk. What kind of glue did you use on those metal parts? The colors are fantastic, but I can see that the red especially is a bit splotchy, at least at the camera angle. Did you wash the plastic first? That's all I can think of as to why this would happen.

      Probably adisive off the tape

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 років тому

      Thanks Greg :D I used Gorilla brand Super glue, takes a bit to set but works quite well for me. Yes, these were definitly washed as AMT kits are quite greasy with release agent. I'm not sure what you mean by the blotchy red, probably from the camera angle. Or the NATO Brown I painted to make it worn out a bit. Or the gloss coat I added?

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  6 років тому

      They were more of an oval shape, and had quite a lot of ejector pin marks. So I decided since I had the materials on hand that It would be better and more time efficient to just make new ones, instead of spending all the time cleaning and sanding them to shape.

      I think so Adam. I've got one tank from Tamiya that I want to build this year. It's going to be a big project for me but I can't wait to see it done :D I should probably practice on a few smaller ones first.... build up my confidence.

    Gorgeous job. Why did you use PVA glue for the deflector and for the engine?

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 років тому

      Thanks Lee. Those parts were clear and styrene cement can cause them to fog/frost up. Krystal Klear is a really strong version of PVA glue. So I know my parts are going to stick.

    • @zlee11
      @zlee11 7 років тому

      Thanks for your reply. The parts did not look clear from the photo. BTW, thanks for the recommendation of Lifecolor Blue Aotake. So much nicer than the Tamiya blue green metallic. It's a pain to clean, but the color is worth it.

      Thanks! Great build by the way, i've almost completed it myself. Quick question: what kind of tape did you use for masking? The stuff i have tears away paint and it still goes under the tape from time to time.

    • @rebelsatcloudnine
      @rebelsatcloudnine  7 років тому

      Thanks, it was a very fun build. I'm still going to get 1 more and build it with the wings up all the way and the landing gear down. Paint it as the "Bounty". For this I used Frog painters tape Yellow. It's a thinner tape than their regular stuff and more like traditional Kabuki tape. I also made sure to gloss the paint after I sprayed each color, this helped keep the paint sealed to the model. I used Future for that.
