- Here is the Last video in the Watchmaking Tools series I gathered to start my Horology Journey. This video goes through a few final tools needed, but I am sure there will be many more to follow. We cover everything from Cleaning supplies to Watch Oiling and Oilers. Also, I discussed and showed some of the cheaper brands, and Amazon finds where I decided to go a bit cheaper instead of spending a lot on the premium brands. Did I make the correct choice? Only time will tell.

You have bought almost all the tools that a watchmaker needs, some for the very advanced or highly professional watchmakers and some are way too expensive for a beginner, you tell all about it, but you are a beginner as you say and have not yet disassembled and reassembled a watch, let alone serviced.
You have a lot more stuff than a beginner needs. But I'm curious about your first video of you working on a watch.

Take the blue crab style case opener and throw it in the trash. Terrible. It should be called a case back scratcher instead. I suggest a Jaxa style opener (which you can use with the case holder in a vise), and a Chinese copy of the Bergeon 5700. They are not expensive and allow you to safely open so many different style case backs. I will also say - I'm very excited to follow you on this journey.
Please pack all of your tools into a large box and send to me 😉. I’m looking forward to seeing more of your adventures in this hobby, I’m in the contemplative stage, I have a spreadsheet of tools but haven’t pulled the trigger yet. Also, I’d be interested in seeing your camera and audio setup!

Don't let people put you off your video journey.! Make thousands!... but keep them live and real.
Let's face it, virtually all the watch repair videos on youtube are just about selling tools! AND.. the ones with the highest view counts are the most edited videos!!!. All they do is re-film the same procedures over and over until they get it right on camera and then they join all the bits together to make it look professional whilst telling an X-factor story about the owner of the watch over the top .
One of the top guys has become so lazy and complacent that he has actually left some footage in one of his recent videos showing him taking a watch out of an envelope that he had already opened in previous takes. He didn't realise that due to the camera angle it had been filmed at, whilst he sliced through the front of the envelope with his new fancy knife, you could see straight through the package and out the back of it where it had been opened before! You could see the floor underneath it quite clearly through the opening!
They are no more qualified than you my friend. They just have a lot of cameras and tools and do a bit a research to sound horologically convincing in the script.!!!! Is horologically a word? Is now lol
Go on... make a video but keep all the mistakes in it like... springs flying across the room, screws getting launched from tweezers, breaking pivots, losing diashock end stones, breaking oiler tips by dropping them, losing your rag with hairsprings and ripping them to bits in a violent temper etc etc.🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My suggestions to others, there is a set of tools about 10 that are absolutely needed to start taking apart movements and putting them back together, because that is what you need to do a few times before you know if this is what you want to do.
For guys like this and myself, i think we are committed, but you can totally get away with less than $200 investment in tweezers, screw drivers, mat, movement holder, case opener, some wood pegs. And start taking apart a pocket watch movement. Something you don't mind destroying. In fact, if you can get two pocket watches (swiss made) GPTS WW2 era non working movements and simply practice taking apart and putting back together. That will let you know what else you need and if you like this hobby. You might even end up with one working pocket watch. Those can be had for about $50 non working.
You don't need all Bergeon tools but, a movement holder, spring bar tool, nice tweezers, right you don't need much Else. A small 2x loop. But that's about it.
You don't need any cleaning or jewel tools, nada. Just practice taking a large pocket watch movement apart and trying to get it back together with the tools you have.

Love the top quality tools, but, can only afford the cheaper, lower quality tools.
It is all less "painful" to replace broken or malfunctioning tools🤗😎
BTW, my Bergeon air blower was like $15 it's the red one with gray plastic tip. And that's one of my tips, your air blower should stand on its own and have a plastic tip for several reasons.

I was wondering how long it would take before you bought a microscope and enter the 21 century watchmaking. I bet in 6 monthes you will have one on your bench. And then you will go for the right microscope and then... like me you will end up with 3 microscopes. To avoid this pay attention to the distance under the lens so that you can work freely with your hands under it.
What microscope do you recommend?

Your hand case back openers are no good unless you thin the edge down. They are made of cheap metal and have to fat of an edge that just mars and scratches and wont open anything you cant open with your fingernails. I am just getting into watchmaking as well and 85-90% of the tools need to be of high quality (Bergeon, Horotec, Dumont, etc...) but there are a few things that can be cheap but they are pretty much just the stuff made of plastic or carbon fiber, nearly anything made of steel must be Swiss as the steel is better quality, the finish is much better, and the tolerances are much stricter.
