Good video! My 97 is the same color as yours, but is completely stock. The cat has recently died on it, so I think I'll save a ton of money by replicating what you did. Thanks!
Hey Dustin 👋 I found your channel searching for how to weld catalytic converters my step daughter got her stolen the other night thanks for the video big help! 👍
Nice , there are some counties here that exempt smog too but mostly high country! I was considering doing that, but then I didn’t want to deal with a check engine light on all the time, and poor fuel economy! I’m sure they’re going to start requiring smog on these older jeeps yearly here now too. Thanks for watching!
Well done! I just installed a Banks cat back exhaust and had the muffler shop check the cats. They said they are surprisingly in good shape for an '05 TJ. I have no idea if the previous owner put new ones in. But just in case I ran a bottle of Cataclean through it for peace of mind. I usually add 4 - 6 oz. of MMO too with each fill up. Hopefully, I won't need to do this job anytime soon, that's crazy expensive now!
It’s really expensive especially in CA. Thats a good idea for the fuel system and cat clean, I’ve never tried that stuff before! It looked like the honeycomb pieces in the cat changed shape, still intact, but broke free form the outer walls it was contained to , hence the loose parts inside! Almost 600 for that cat is ridiculous. Luckily I have a commercial account with Autozone and was able to get it at a half off discount! My guess is that is what most shops are doing getting a discount then, marking up the costs and saying that 150 for labor is cheap for 750 dollar job to the eyes of the customer! Haha 😂
@@ATEMOFFROAD Precious metals in those cats during these times equal a serious hit to the wallet. I still have great low end torque on this 4.0, so no need right now. The ole TJ does idle better since the Cataclean but nothing crazy different. Once or twice a year is enough. But since I use MMO regularly, I'll keep it to once a year.
Actually, an empty or close to empty fuel tank is more dangerous than a full one. It's the fumes that cause an explosion... not the liquid. As far as welding safety goes... I don't think these guys worry about the tank as long as it's sealed and there are no leaks.
Yeah if I smell gas I would correct that first but most of the time it’s not much to worry about just do your best to keep the sparks away from the tank. Sparks are controllable for the most part. Muffler shops do this kind of work all the time. 🍻
There’s grey smoke that comes out my 2008 keep liberty I bought the Cat and 02 imma go to a welding shop and ask how much that would be . What do u think they will charge me ?
I want to say 2 on voltage and 40 wire speed , but that could if im not popping holes through I’ll turn up to 3 and down to like 35. 👍🏼 somewhere around there 🍻
did you throw any engine codes after doing this? I wanna do this on my 2008 dodge charger cause the oem cats are welded to pipes and flanges and cost about 400 per side. Whereas I can get two universals for half and cut and weld them in my self.
@@ATEMOFFROAD Cali sucks not letting us install cats ourselves. I remember back in the day when you could grab them up at a junkyard and save a ton. Now people are stealing them and selling them for the precious metals. Then we have to pay a ton to have a new one installed. Great vid you always make everything look so easy! Another great vid!
Buy a welder for cheap and make it yourself Im a 17 year old guy my dad gave me his old car I can’t afford mechanics because he said He won’t finance anything to do with the car so I learned how to rebuild it and painted my own car now I need a new exhaust I am thinking about doing it myself instead of buying a cheap eBay straight pipe

Hi Stephen I hear thats a on going problem going around here too , definitely wouldn’t make me happy! Sorry for the loss. Thanks for watching 🍻
Even if it wasn’t throwing a code it definitely needed to be changed good video
Thanks for the share , well done!
Trying this today
Thanks for posting!!
My tj had no biscuit to speak of just a straight flow when I bought it. here in Utah some counties don't have emissions testing

What was your wire speed and voltage set to??
And wire type? Were all the parts aluminized stainless?
Awesome job thank you 🔥🔥🔥🔥

Thank you 🍻

wow liked and subbed!! i have to ask you used a mig welder which works well here bc i am guessin a flux core welder would not work well here right?
Yes mig , but I do switch between both processes. Welcome to the channel and thanks for watching🍻
@@ATEMOFFROAD THANKS! Awesome!
I think it would work okay. It’s only thin steel and no one is gonna see it!
What kind of welding machine is your using ????

What kind of wire were you burning on there?

walker cats are cheaper if you want to get the best value for the money parts
I need to do the one on my TJ. Just spent $1,260 on ONE cat for my wife’s car 😭😭
It’s outrageous right now , a shop wanted to do mine for 750 and I said no way, the cat alone he wanted to sell for $575
