In regards to reusing lids, I always reuse the jars and lids from jelly, beets, spaghetti sauce, anything that has that little inner rubber seal for my water bath canning. So far it has worked for me also!

I’m always amazed at how easy you make it! I found an app that saves you greatly on produce, pantry, meats, dairy……I was just looking at what was available today low and behold they have three pretty good size boxes of oranges, missed varieties, but about 25 ish for 3.00! I’m was thinking what the heck can I so with these (my old hands can’t squeeze anymore). Check one of my favorite channels and behold there you are canning oranges! I’m off to get two boxes of oranges. Thank you!

    Awesome!!!!
I'm gonna can a couple dozen quarts of oranges. I want to stock my pantry. It's gonna be a long cold dark Winter. Gotta have vitamin C and sweets available.
Remember to stock up your pantries. If your pantry looks full? Add just a bit more. You'll want extra to barter or help others less fortunate.
Take care and thank you for the video.

Thanks for showing the process. btw we don't even have these 2 parts lids where I live in europe, so you're safe :p To be extra safe you'd go for a full glass jar and a sterile disposable rubber ring, but it's totally possible to reuse plain old jam jars as long as the lid doesn't rust and does have a sealing joint as you show.

@@cookiemama4 I agree! I worked in the citrus business for years and this is totally outrageous. I'm so glad I found your channel! I was really looking forward to giving canning oranges a try, and when I finally started the process this morning I quickly realized I should have done my homework about the oranges. After a little research, I have found that navels are best for canning, and at this point (July), I will need to wait until November for them to be in season again. I purchased mine at a large bulk store (the C one), but when I started peeling them this morning it was evident they were all wrong. They didn't peel well, when I tried to separate the sections they kept ripping, and the taste was not good at all; I chalked it up to a still new canner learning experience 😊 I will not be deterred, however, and plan to give this a try again in November.

I think the trouble with using the Classico lids is that it may hold the rubber seal in place even if it didn't expell all the air when canning. This may allow bacteria to be present that you don't smell or see. As my Vet once told me when he saw me give my huge dog a turkey bone, it works well until the one time it doesn't and then the dog may die. I never did it after that. I reuse my lids but only for dehydrated foods which I seal taking the air out with a air pump. That way I don't feel like I'm wasting money. Good luck and even though we have an orange tree, I never thought to can them. Have you ever canned the juice? Thanks for the video.

That looks great! What recipe uses oranges? Vitamin C in a jar.

I'm definitely trying this! I bet those would be delicious with orange juice instead of water. Have you ever canned orange juice? (Is that even possible?)

So other videos I watched on canning oranges tell you to section the oranges and remove the flesh. Your method looks easier. Leaving the membrane on does it it make the orange a little bitter?

Oh I really hope you’ve tried these before! I heard Sutton’s Daze talking about canning a bunch of oranges and them being so disgusting they had to go to the chickens! I also heard this from another UA-camr too, can’t remember the channel name. I’d just hate for you to go through all that work for a product you didn’t like!
