DEEPMIND 12 B3 ORGAN SOUND DESIGN TUTORIAL ~ Synthesize This! Ep.18

  • In this video I make a Hammond B3 organ patch from scratch on the Behringer Deepmind 12 polyphonic analog subtractive synthesizer. I also stumble upon Farfisa style organ sounds as well as church or pipe organ type sounds. But primarily the sound is mostly centered around Hammond or tone wheel organs. Normally organ sounds are produced in an additive way by combining sine waves. On the Deepmind 12 we don't have sine waves so instead we start off with a richer sound and use the filter and tone controls to shape the timbre. Finally we add effects like a rotary speaker which is a Leslie speaker simulator as well as a rack amp to simulate a little bit of crunch for those classic rock distorted organ sounds. When combining the right timbre, envelope shape, effects and playing style we can get a pretty convincing organ on this synth.
    Songs featured in the demo portion:
    • 8:39 - A whiter shade of pale - Procol Harum
    • 9:09 - Down by the riverside
    • 9:40 - Amazing grace
    • 10:21 - I'm a believer - The Monkees

    How can anyone watch this and not think this a brilliant steal of a synth? Mine is on the way and man, I can't wait!!

    I have gone through several of these tutorials. Not only they present interesting sounds, but, what is much more important, they teach how to build them. And the Teacher (from ~ Synthesize This!) is a very good, systematic and easy to follow. A very good job, indeed.

    Really nice, again. I love organ sounds, so this was spot on. *turning on my Studiologic Sledge, using sine waves*

    Great vid. Is a sound like this achievable on the DSI Pro2? Or will the paraphony not allow for it?

    You have a good touch. Even following along, I couldn't get the right sound. Also I don't think the mod wheel wasn't doing anything really.

    Hey, I have been loving these videos. On my deepmind, some of the voices are literally quieter and sound different rebought to be an issue with many of my patches. Also, the calibration for those voices seems to take infinitely long. Not sure what to do there..

  • @graxjpg
    @graxjpg 4 роки тому +3

    These videos are so important! Thanks so much. So my deepmind 12, the different voices are different volume levels. At bedroom levels, some voices are inaudible. Strangely, this problem is mitigated by going through both the right output and the headphones, but with one output no matter the port I get this issue. Any ideas to help would be greatly appreciated

    I had a Leslie 760 for decades. Awsome thing it was. Powerful. The whole video is amazingly easy to follow and very clear. I'm begging for your quick help though. I tried 5 times getting the basic patch as explained in the beginning. But somehow my unit turns ON already on some kind of program, and I'm desperately unable to blank it out the way you do by Holding Program & Hitting Compare.
    I know this must sound amateur. It's because I am a guitarist. I only got the unit specifically to get a B3 soumd out of it, for my music project. Apologies for my ignorance and millions of Thanks if ever you can help me. Have a Fantastic night.
    Rick

    At 6:16 you said you'd go to fx2 but then you stopped at fx1. How's that working if the rotary speaker is in fx2?? What's the right one to scroll to?

    Which software is it that gives you a circular picture in picture?

    • @onceuponasynth
      @onceuponasynth  7 років тому

      I use Final Cut Pro X, but you should be able to achieve this in most video editors (it's just a circular mask).

    • @CaalamusTube
      @CaalamusTube 7 років тому

      ..alas, I am stuck in lowly iMovie until I can find a way to instal my old version of FinalCut ( ...which isn't compatible with any os newer then Snow Leopard or something. I think I need to just partition my HDD & instal two versions of OSX. )

    I would think that buying a Yamaha yc reface keyboard and plugging it in via midi would be best option but, if you don't got the money to do so. Than follow this method as it us a creative way of making a similar sound to an organ.

    • @thisjustin77
      @thisjustin77 5 років тому +4

      this is not the point of the video. He is literally just showing sound design. In addition. this is a more expensive option to the Yamaha reface

      @esthermoonmusic 6 років тому +12

      Of course a synthesizer won't make a perfect organ sound, you'll need an actual organ for that, but this is rather convincing and you also have much more ability to shape the sound compared to the drawbars of a real organ

    • @markknight6910
      @markknight6910 2 роки тому

      Most of the examples you dialed in sound like a $75 casio. I'll have to try and find one and spend some time with it to see if it was just a poor video example of a good synth. Thats typically the case
