this is the first thing I made in my new dutch oven! It's a staple now, the thing I love about this recipe is that because you are not making it with carrots and potatoes, you can easily make several different dishes out of the leftovers! Tacos, french dips etc! Like the others said, thank you for making the perfect video!
That's how I do it. Just onions and garlic. Sometimes a Jalapeño cause I like spicy. Keeps it versatile. I use a big chuck roast and I'll freeze some for later use.
In my experience, Chicken Broth with a splash of maple syrup brings a more satisfying richness to the braise! Sometimes Marjoram too. Celery and big chunks of carrots make it a more balanced dinner. Then serve over quality Buttered Egg Noodles with fresh ground black pepper. Whole Foods 365 organic extra wide egg noodles are fantastic for packaged. Don't blame me if you eat the whole thing! LOL
I just cooked my small blade roast in a corning ware dish, following this recipe religiously! The result is unbelievable - never cooked as tender and tasty roast before! Through wrong choices, I learned to trust professionals like you to guide me in the jungle of food demonstration videos:)
Looks super tasty! When I have a piece of meat that tall, I like to sear it, then cut it down the center of its height, then tie it up. I prefer shorter strands of meat instead of long stringy strands.
@@saxon1177 Heresy I say. Pure blasphemy. Potatoes are the nuggets that feed our soul. Little bundles of joy that keep our tummies warm in the darkest times of our lives. Well then again there is Pink Floyd so you have me there but I still stand by my statement.
We can save time if we make it in a pressure cooker for virtually 5o minutes or something but it's we make a pan we can take long time minimum of 3 hours or more this video is extremely crucial for everyone for making delicious pot roast beef thanks.
I'm going to try this one with a venison roast I have, the only thing different I will have to do is put more broth in to cover the roast.. if you make a venison roast and don't have enough broth to almost cover it, it dries it rather quickly since it's so lean. Also I would love to see a video of some recipes for using leftover pot roast?! I've heard of people making pulled pork sandwiches with it but have never tried it myself. Very good video, glad I found your channel!
Super easy and delicious recipe. Only thing different I did was was add potatoes, carrots and mushrooms when flipping the meat for the last hour of cooking.
Does your oven have the ceramic inside the pan? I have one thats 6qt. that has the ceramic inside and seems every time I cook with it things stick to the bottom FYI I have a smaller duch oven 3.5 qt. that’s 100% cast iron and nothing sticks in it! It was my grandmothers and she left it to me 40 plus years ago. Wish it was bigger!
i consider it a good omen that i have an identical dutch over that's been sitting in its box for over a year! Time to get that out and try this. Thank you.
if i wanted to use a wine sauce in this, would i add the wine(let it reduce) before the broth? then everything else is the same i assume. i just wanted to add red wine.
A Dutch oven is almost exactly the same as a crock pot, simply take the crockery pot out of the electric kettle and use it in your oven instead. Crock pots tend to merely steam foods, not roast them, even with the lid off they simply don't roast meat, but merely boil it. This is for those people who didn't know they probably already have a Dutch oven. A pot roast should never to be confused with an electric crock potted one. (even if you like them).
I going to try this with a "camp" style dutch oven and real charcoal.......even though I have the enameled type (and love to cook in it) I just like to get outside and make fires. Harder to control the temp, but I think I can get by with six or eight coals on the bottom and a ring of charcoal on top..........my Lodge number 10 should be just the right size.
To tenderize any type of I use an old type pressure cooker. Put the meat in with couple cut coarsely chopped onions. Cook about 45 or so mins. Need a spoon to take out of pot. It takes someone with experience in using a pressure cooker. They can be dangerous. But no better results.
Never use any type of vegetable oil. Nasty stuff. However you can use avocado oil, olive oil or coconut oil. With this pot roast I will use coconut oil to brown the meat and sauté the onions. Coconut oil has virtually no flavor and can be used with high heat. (Bonus- I use coconut oil on my face at night. I don’t spend money on expensive creams that are full of stuff you would never eat. It’s also great for burns or any other type of skin ailment and dry skin)
Start by seasoning Roast. All over Heat up Dutch Oven to Medium High Add oil Vegetable Sear Roast on all sides to browned over crust Pull off pan turn off heat for a little Peel and chop an onion half inch Couple cloves of garlic chopped Turn heat back onto medium heat this time Put in onions and garlic Stir until onions get soft Add some flour stir Add a little tomato paste Stir it up a little bit Stir in some Worschester And some beef stock Or chicken Stir it around. Scrap bottom Add roast. Back to pan Close lid. Add to preheat oven At 300 degrees half way through flip roast over. Add Rosemary potatoes carrots and mushrooms, Put back in over cook first another hour. 2:43
Not sure I'll be able to find a butcher who sells chuck roasts in my country (not a common cut over here). What other cuts could I substitute and expect similar results?
@@stuartj1968 Thanks! I've already tried it with a shoulder piece (thick/thin rib, I guess). The meat turned out great - the only "drawback" was the large sinew running through this sort of cut, but after four hours in the oven, that wasn't a huge deal.. :) Already have a different cut prepared for tomorrow's roast. I'll try rump/silverside this time.
In my experience, bigger is better. The really good ones are not cheap and you give yourself more options for bigger meals while you don't have to fill it up every time. If you're on a budget like most us, there are cheaper alternatives to the high priced French brand. They may not be as nice, but they all work. Best of luck and God bless.
That looks delicious and simple without all the extras like celery, carrots, and potatoes. However, that wouldn’t last me all week, ONLY about three meals. 😜🤓
Simple and to the point. Thanks for not having 12 minutes of filler
YES YES!!!!!
Right?
I bought a Dutch oven just for this recipe. It was worth it.

Old school goodness. Recommend deglazing pot with a nice pinot noir before tomato paste & Worcestershire goes in ;)
that chuckle at 2:30 totally sold me. I want to chuckle that confidently cooking a pot roast. perfect demo
One of my favourite recipes. Always serve it with roast carrots and potatoes. Delicious and easy.
Thanks
Thank you Chef Michael, I followed your instructions in this recipe, and the results are thumbs up!!!

Question… what is the timing per pound? I believe my roast was only 2.5 lbs. Also, if adding carrots, when would you add them to the pot? TIA🙂
His voice is buttery smooth! 🧈 😋
This is The Best pot roast we have ever tasted!
Le Creuset, best oven dishes I have used.
My first ever pot roast was a success thanks to you. :)

wow, it looks amazing like all of your recipes so far, thank you so much!! I'm going to add potatoes, celery, & carrots to the pot!
That is sexy pot roast! I've asked for a Dutch Oven for Christmas! Can't wait to make this roast :)
Bought a ceramic coated Lodge cast iron last year just for this.....now it's time again.
Outstanding! I added carrots to mine. Easy and incredibly good on a bed of mashed potatoes.

These would be pulled beef sandwiches, good as a Taco or a Nacho
roast beef sandwiches, philly cheese steaks with peppers and onions, cheese steak pizza (homemade) with peppers/onions, hearty vegetable beef soup (peas, carrots, potatoes, celery etc.)
Yup I thought venison could be used for a roast good good
I never thought to use the inverted lid of my dutch oven as a dish. Definitely will save time and washing.
That looks like it would go great with my potato pancakes. Yum!
Going to give it a try tomorrow. Looks fantastic!!!
Simple, times and spices, just what i was looking for.
I also added in carrots and potatoes after the 3 hour mark and they came out perfect.
Super easy and delicious recipe. Only thing different I did was was add potatoes, carrots and mushrooms when flipping the meat for the last hour of cooking.
Thank you! I was wondering if I could do that.
This method really is the easiest and quickest way I’ve ever made roast! Thank you!
I made this recipe tonight and family loved it.🙏🏻😋subscribed.

Finally, roast with no veggies! 😋

When would I add those to the Dutch oven?

Another awesome take on pot roast. Can't wait to try this one too.
It's so good!
I wanna make this for Christmas
Yummy and not complicated .thank you so much .👏👍
Had to come find this fantastic recipe again and save it as one of our favorites!
Hi Michael, so easy...so delicious...thank you!
Can you provide measurements of worch sauce and bone broth?
in the oven right now. Sure smells good with this method and combination of ingredients....
I'm going to cook this tonight. I got a chuck roast that's a little over 2 pounds. Should the cook time be adjusted for weight?
if i wanted to use a wine sauce in this, would i add the wine(let it reduce) before the broth? then everything else is the same i assume. i just wanted to add red wine.
Correct
You can add the wine before the broth and let it cook down a bit. Then add the broth and have at it.
Hi. Great Dutch Oven recipe. Mega yummy🥘🔥🔥🔥😋👍. I cook a lot in Dutch Oven. Greetings from Germany.🤝

What temperature should I put my oven at if I want to cook it for 8 hours in the Dutch oven?
Great video, get all of the ingredients Mise en Placed before turning on the oven or stovetop 😊
Amazing Roast !!
For a little extra flavor, I use bacon grease to brown the beef.
I had planned to do this but wanted carrots and potatoes with it. At what point should I put them in? Want some onion chunks as well.
This is going to be tomorrows dinner. Along side it, I’m going to do some herbed potatoes and asparagus w/ garlic butter.
I got the chance to cook this and my family and I really enjoyed the recipe. Thx.
excellent presentation thank you!
아주 좋아요 !!!
Damn bro, you made me super hungry! I will book mark this and try it soon. I usually do a pot roadt crock pot and that is super yummm also

Yes, avocado oil is a healthier oil with a high smoke point. I use it all the time.
Looks delicious. I don't have, nor can afford, a dutch oven. :o( is there an alternative?

How many lbs was the roast in the video?
Hello I was wondering what size is your Dutch oven?
can I get written instructions from this recipe
Enjoyed the video. I'm considering a Dutch oven, but I don't know what size. 4 qt? 5 qt? 6 qt? I was thinking 4 qt.
Get the biggest you can, no matter the size never seems like there is enough room

5 qt for family of 4-5. It’s a work horse in my kitchen.
It is good but it is much better in the crock pot
