- Today I'm sharing my new octopus sketchbook. Showing you examples from The Flowers of Provence book that inspired me to create new work of my own. Also giving you a sketchbook tour of what I have watercolor painted in a vertical format inspired by the illustrator Melissa Sweet. It is a great example of the Art of Practice.

I too would like to add my voice here to share how much I appreciate your current content. I especially love the way you break things down into manageable little pieces. For example, the essence of that flower to progress your loose painting skills, and the use of the cropping tool to capture focused mini vignettes which function both as exercises to acquire new skills and beautiful art in their own right.
This is how kids learn the alphabet and progress to reading. Great teaching skills. Thank you Kelly.

I love this video! So inspiring. I’ve got The Flowers of Provence on hold with my local library-thanks for sharing it! My children’s librarian heart leaped when you showed Melissa Sweet’s illustrations. (She’s one of my favorites and I have that book signed by her! ❤❤❤). Your octopus journal and your work in it is fabulous-I love the page layouts and the pieces you painted-and using the cropping tool to focus was such a new idea for me. You open my mind to so many things. I’m spinning with inspiration-thank you.
The cropping tool is a game changer. If you purchase and 8x10 mat, cut diagonally through opposite corners and you have an instant crop tool that will last you years. I'm so happy that you are learning so much from my channel, thank you Allison!

I can hear your excitement to getting your paints and using these inspirations to get painting! And the picture of the "old world iris" I can see doing that with 3 colors, yellow ochre, mauve and maybe olive green. Love it!

Any sketchbook will do - regular style, concertina - the octopus was just new to me so I made it work in this study. I'm glad you are inspired and open to seeing all the possibilities the book offers us as artists. Welcome to In the Studio!

I really love how you are using your sketchbooks to learn your color palettes, and to learn the way the colors mixes because as a new painter, I really need to learn these things.
