    This reminds me I love my gold watercolor paint but keep forgetting it because it's in a single pan separate from all my other colors. Thanks for the reminder! I love the shimmer in my paintings. 🥰 I even add pink to it to make it a shimmery rose gold.

    To speed up the leaf pressing, place leaves in single layer between printer paper and iron (without steam). Keep moving iron … you don’t want to ignite paper. They seem to retain the colour better too. Discovered this when I was too impatient and curling leaves wouldn’t sit flat.

    I just recently started painting, so I have minimal supplies...nothing forgotten. But a question...what does the splashing do? Do you always splash? And what about the water that goes all over?

    • @kellyhoernig
      @kellyhoernig 2 дні тому

      I use splashing as a way to add texture and color values to my paintings. I don't splash everything but I do splash a lot because I enjoy the texture. If the extra water is too much I will blot it with a paper towel but mostly I just keep going without giving it too much thought at all.

    Hi Kelly, I am a wannabe watercolor artist and I so love your work and your teaching style. > I’m struggling with flicking water droplets onto the damp paint to create that amazing texture. Would you be willing to share that technique? I would be forever grateful. You are an inspiration 🤗🤗🤗

    • @kellyhoernig
      @kellyhoernig 2 дні тому

      First of all, paper makes a huge difference. The cheaper the paper, the better the splash texture, no 100% cotton paper for sure. If the area is too wet, you will get color that is pushed to the edges instead of texture. If too dry, you might just get circles. When the shine is just vanishing from the area, that is the best time to splash. Hope this helps and welcome to In the Studio!

Just a quick info on the Luminance pencils, they are from Caran d’ache and aren’t water soluble. I love them dearly. I do like the effect in your painting, but if you desire to have the effect with the watercolor pencils, change the pencils. I think that would be a very suddle and neat effect with the fall colors.

    Kelly - thank you so much - I've watched several of your videos and I've loved watching you paint leaves. Such a lovely idea - I've started painting leaves from my garden and it's such a joy to use the outline of a leaf as a guide and then all my attention goes into the paint and observing how it mixes and flows - and while I'm trying to make them realistic-ish - I'm not too obsessive about it - it's all an opportunity to learn about the paint and the brushes. xx

    I like the tracing ideas. I love putting the tracing in clear sleeves. I also would use oops printer copy paper. Slide down in sleeve so tracing up against the wrong side of the oops paper. Easier to flip thru and see. Winston Salem nc USA

    Question here - I love your color mixing advice and how you document your palettes and color mixes. And maybe I need to just watch the rest of the video, but how do you store your big sheet of color mixing so that you know it goes with a particular palette? I’m organizationally challenged 😅

    • @kellyhoernig
      @kellyhoernig 8 днів тому

      I write the palette date on the small sheet as well as the bigger sheet so they are coordinated. I then store the larger sheets in a storage display book art portfolio that's 14"x17". You can find them at Hobby Lobby or Dick Blick, here's a link to see them www.dickblick.com/products/itoya-original-art-profolios/

    I love that you went from a small Moleskin to a large (huge?!) one - that was so brave! Your art is beautiful and you’ve inspired me to document the colors I’ve used and to splash! 😊

      It was a HUGE step for me and one of the largest sketchbooks to date but I also loved having as much space as I wanted to create and fill as I saw fit. The small one just wouldn't fit anything in it. Try one, it is a game changer!

    Hello Miss Kelly!! I am reaching out to see if you have any videos where you show in the recording how you balance water and using a napkin/ paper towel with your brush and paints?… And I have too many favorites in this video to ONLY pick 3!! *addicted to anything granulated!!!* 🤣🎨🖌️😍🥰❤️‍🔥
