Kelly, this was lovely, so very lovely - all of your thoughts, as well as your art. I think the "softness" was always there just ready to emerge. The reason I think that, is because that is one of the aspects of your art that I have loved from the very first time I saw your videos. Everything about it spoke to me of softness and calmness. The straight lines never seemed "hard" to me because your colors, technique and subject matter were always of lovely, delicate things. Your concertina journal is amazing!! What an organic, therapeutic way to express your true self. I can see how tight your straight lines are lessoning and allowing the natural you to come through. Nature can teach us so much such as a winding river, it makes it way gently around obstacles .
So happy for you and this shows how much you are letting yourself BE your true self. I can see this as a book Kelly! ❤ Very inspiring......
I feel art is the most personal expression one has. After all, we are all unique and it comes through in everything we do. If I asked 50 people to paint a rose, each of us would create it differently and that is what I am trying to share. The personality of oneself is beautiful and unique to only you so celebrate it!

Angie, you have to start somewhere and that act alone in being consistent in your sketchbook will allow you to see your progress from start to finish. You've got this! The hard part is the commitment to do it as often as you can with intention.

I received my copy of the Flower Hunter and I was stopped in my tracks at the opening pages. The flowers reminds me of old wallpaper in a house I grew up in. Thanks for exposure to Lucys work and I have enjoyed your channel for only three weeks now! Now to watch your video lol.
It is such a transformative book and one that set me on this journey because I had never been connected to a book so beautiful before. It spoke to me and I listened intently. Enjoy her work and listen to the whispers you hear, you don't know where they will lead you!

Want to add that your discussion on curved lines, circles, emotions, etc has completely opened up a new area to learn about in my beginning steps in art. I just turned 70 and only started trying to learn watercolor last year. I probably don't have time to reach close to your understanding of shapes and colors but I really enjoy having you open up this new area of the art world.

Man I love your videos. So much beauty. Very much enjoy what you share and the thought process behind your work. You make me look at things differently that I have not noticed before. I watercolor also but you show such a delicateness to the medium. I was trained in traditional landscape and your work explores just what I was looking for but didnt know. Guess we all keep discovering ourselves.

Good morning, Kelly. I always love to hear your thoughts and insights regarding your artwork. I also think we are constantly changing and our artwork reflects that. I think we may begin to get 'artists block' when we are doing too much of what we are 'expected' to do. I see some artists (decorative painters) and I can spot their work immediately. They have a style that they have been showing themselves in for many years - sometimes decades. I have always been a 'rebel' in many aspects of my life. I think that has carried over to my artwork. I have tried and found moderate success creating using many mediums, subjects, and styles. But I haven't felt as if I were 'settled' yet. Is that good or bad? I am still trying to figure it out. I don't want to be a cookie cutter of my teachers. I would rather be an eclectic mix of ALL the teachers that I have encountered in my life. I like to watch, process, and try to replicate them, but then do my own thing. It isn't always immediate or easy. But I am not happy just replicating what I have been shown. My soul needs more. So far, I know I am partial to darker artwork, with lots of contrast. (How different is that from you!?!) My 'darkest' work is what makes me happiest - most of the time. But that doesn't mean I don't do other things too that feed my artistic self. I look at it like a fog slowly lifting. I am in some type of 'transition' now professionally. It is undefined, but I feel it. I may not be my most productive self through this metamorphasis, but it will come. I will be patient. Thank you for sharing your story with us all. It is so inspiring.
Sheila, I love that you are in a constant flux of creative endeavors. I have been through a gambit myself but through each one it is the discovery and execution of the art that always intrigues me. I have always marched to my own drum and get bored extremely easily so I am constantly evolving, reaching, learning and developing. I wouldn't be me if I didn't. It all takes time but if you look back at your art journey, you will see the transformations along the way, I promise!

I love the earthy colors...how'd you choose them? Such beautiful work
I use a lot of them from Cheap Joe's American Journey watercolor line. They are pastel in color and mix fantastically with everything creating the most dreamy colors ever. You can find them on my 24 color palette on my UA-cam channel.

Hi Kelly, I really enjoyed your process explanation. It encouraged me to think of other ways to connect with nature in my art sketchbook. The concertina book looks delightful. I have so many sketchbooks stored for later use that I’ve run out of storage. The concertina will have to wait for me🥹
This principle works the same in any sketchbook. Nature is an overall theme and a connective point, what you choose to mix nature with is where your unique personality comes in and makes it a one-of-a-kind piece of art. Pull one of those sketchbooks out and get playing, it will change the way you look at putting paint to paper, promise!
