"The castle is on the very edge of a terrific precipice. A stone falling from the window would fall a thousand feet without touching anything! As far as the eye can reach is a sea of green tree tops, with occasionally a deep rift where there is a chasm. Here and there are silver threads where the rivers wind in deep gorges through the forests." - Bram Stoker's "Dracula"

Vlad the Impaler took revenge on the landowners who killed his brother while he was being raised by the ottomans and was far from home so he couldn't save him. Vlad impaled all of the elders while the younger ones were forced to walk 100 km to this location where they will be then forced to build this exact citadel. In the end, he still impaled them and that's basically the story of how this fortress was built. On top of a very high and rough mountain, in pretty bad conditions, I imagine.

Actually not that castle, but one in Piatra Neamt has a battle like that in 1691. 19 people kept the whole polish army(that was bordering then the romanian principates) lead by great Sobieski III_the Hero of Christendom at bay and managed to kill a lot in the process. They were tricked to surrender with a false letter as if coming from the then Domn (=Dominus / King /Overlord/ Voevod) Constantin Voda . The guy was ok as he spared their lives even if he was pissed off, at the request of the polish hatman Iablonowski. ua-cam.com/video/r8GiV813GRs/v-deo.html

Vlad II Dracul, the father of Vlad III Dracul (Țepeș) was the founder of the Drăculeşti dynasty, which lasted until the 17th century.
The surname "Țepeș" is actually a nickname (given by the Turks) given to Vlad III Dracul(a) as a result of the method of stabbing used by him.
This nickname, it is associated with Vlad after his death, has remained in use to this day.

@@ArtofLunatik Vlad Tepes, charged with the principles of Transylvania with anti-Ottoman resistance at the border, is allied with Bran and Brasov during his first reign (1448) and during the period up to the second reign. However, at the beginning of 1459, during the second reign (1456 - 1462), his army passed through Bran Castle and attacked Brasov to resolve a conflict between the ruler of the Romanian Country and the Saxons demanding higher customs duties and he they were supporting his opponent to the throne. Vlad Tepes burns the suburbs of the city and kills hundreds of Saxons, causing the Saxon community to take revenge and to paint him in later chronicles as an extremely bloody tyrant. Vlad the Impaler
as it is called in the west he stay in the Bran castle many times and slept over night, but it was not built by him gentlemen. The bran castle being built befor vlad Tepes in 1382 ..vlad was not even born . Vlad the Impaler Date of birth: 1431 but his 24/7 home....or should i said residence was at: Poenari Castle also known as Poenari Citadel. Facts! For the Romanian people was the best ruler and his real name was: Vlad Țepeș, (born 1431, Sighișoara,
the province of Transylvania. Yes true!
In those times Romania was divided into three provinces. Transylvania, Moldova, Wallachia .
Something like American in 1861 Civil War the north fought with the south but at the same time the south is attacked by Mexico. :)))) In the case of Vlad Tepes in the south he was attacked by the Ottoman empire. :))) It happened that he was a little tougher

Kathryn Coluzzi Tzigane and Vlad enjoyed the many nights they willed themselves into bat form and taking leave from the southern most point flew to be able to hunt on the ground.
This castle was not meant to be accessible , or even seen, if you knew the real story of why and how he had it built.
Throughout hundreds of years the scribes claim only a certain few could still faintly hear the wings of a strigoi and at times, the harrowing screams of Vlads mated witch. Now gone in the talons of a beast. Gone forever. So faint the screams now. If only legends were not true.
      I digress..
The ancient ones still meet here to this day. Silent, unseen. And yes, undead. The castle was simply not meant for any mere mortal but for those mortals that are allowed are chosen as they have the will to find a way.

@@theoriginallee1014 I Kathryn Coluzzi, be it known the widow of Joseph the Italian who undertook a mission to impale the vampire of the Appalachian Mountains in the dark caves of Hickory Hollow, with vigilance. Aided only by the spring thaw bringing the scent of Hootin Annie's blood first bite of Vlad who resisted his will and learned the home land he called Transylvania, Coluzzi's mission was to track the sound of the strigo wings as he made rounds of resistance areas in deep mountains to make his report of how many of Vlads changlings were in the strategice region which so reminded him of his homeland. The ghost of Vlad's witch roams these woods and hollows seeking eternal vengence upon Hootin Annie who so enraptured her husband, At times the two encounter one another leaving fire in summer and felled trees in winter snow, but after the snow falls the witch rides the strigo back to her castle, and this was the effort of Coluzzi, to distract her and fly on the winges of the gruesome bird to the old and weary castle. His goal was to pierce the heart of Vlad and tjhe unrepetent Admiral who served him. Coluzzi is not doomed to repeat this quest, his many firiends will eventually expose the Admiral and justice will be served when the Appalachian beast of flight is imprisoned vor eternity.

Kathryn Coluzzi My dear Lady, widow of the noble and fearless huntsman of the undead, he be known as the great Coluzzi. Yes, I've heard the stories from the peasants that live in the deep darkness known as the Appalachian of your husband's mission.
Long ago when Tzigane was still deep in training by her elder sister witches in the caves of Sibiu, it had been prophesied of she who would try to take her place, the american Hootin Annie. Tzigane always at the ready by fang and by claw wanders your realm looking for her foe as you mentioned.
When the strigoi comes for Tzigane, indeed she is taken directly back to her homeland and to her broken memories. Memories of him. How she still watches eternal over her love. He sees her not, she believes. And in sorrow her tears drop like glittering diamonds while Wallachia and Appalachia slumbers.
Perhaps one day Annie will fulfill her quest, a mission not to be taken lightly as I am sure your husband's most trusted men would attest.
Madam I bid you stay warmth in your bed of furs with dreams of taking the beastly Strigoi, perhaps for yourself. Keeping your neck safe from harm needs nary a mention, I'm sure. Still I know they roam.
