Broads Authority say Oulton to Horning is 8 hours. We made it in just under. We left Oulton about 10:00 with the tide, went through Yarmouth arond 1330 and had the tide up to Horning. Arrived around 1730. Horning after Ranworth? Beautiful day, wanted to film Horning in the evening. Turned at the Swan, stopped filming and enjoyed the ride back to moor up in Ranworth. Last shot around 1900. As David said on the last shot, great day!
Our one and only Broads holiday was on Tidecrest II, hired from Stalham, when I was very young. All our holidays since then were on the canals. However, I have visited the area on railtours for boat trips.
What a lovely video.... its very nice to see a very peaceful.. narrated video. It's not usually my sort of thing as I am devoted watcher of robins captains blogs but this video has something about it that I love. Keep up the work
This is so good, really enjoyed watching this!!♥ I live in Norwich and have been on various trips over many years down these broads, and I think you've captured a very truthful essence of what it is in reality - absolutely beautifully captured. I enjoy your narration too. It's amazing how many people never learn how to narrate effectively and avoid boring the viewer with a lot of unnecessary information. I think you have it just right, and very relaxing to listen to your voice too. I abandoned my TV last year in favour of watching You Tube videos and various other things on the internet, and I'm so glad I did, because films like you have produced here is to me far more enjoyable than most TV programmes. Thanks for your hard work on your holidays and sharing it with us all. I shall enjoy watching many of your other ones too! :o)
O , wow , one day i have to see Norfolk , i live in Hinckley and hopefully next year i will nbe able to see this fantastic place !As usual , congratulations Paul ! You live my dream , and to be honest, i am a little bit jealous ! All the best 😣
Just realised you have 3 dislikes! Who could dislike this? Great filming, good information...and soothing voice. Loved the Diary of a Broadsophile as well!
Jennie Carter .....it’s probably the semi Americanised English accent people seem to put on if they’ve been to the USA...”now we’re comin into Wroxham...”we came outta Wroxham” etc. (I gave it a thumbs up for the lovely views)
Sir, it's a great pity that the hire boat companies do not use your video as an advert for Broads boating, instead of allowing hirers to believe that there must be something really exciting around the next bend, therefore greatest haste must be used at all times! My wife and I have owned our Broads cruiser for twenty years and despite the escalating costs, we don't know of a better holiday/pastime for us and the three dogs. Thank you for the wonderful video.
I enjoyed that, I wish someone would take me, I had the best holidays on the Broads. Good weather helps. Pity you didn't go up to Potter Heigham, Martham, Hickling and Horsey :-)
Hello there, We have just got back after a 4day break on The Broads. We love it and go every year. I have watched your videos before and must say I think your voice is really calming, its a great voice. Keep on enjoying the Broads matey(Pete)? I think thats your name. Your son was with you last time. Take Care. Darran Kemp.
i suppose with the tide with you you could, but if you look at a river map then you will find that Horning is farther down the river than ranworth, so unless you got to horning and turned around then you could not have spent the night at ranworth. Good vid though ;)
I love the scenery and I like the way you talk, where are you from ?? We flew to London last year from Chicago and went on a boat on the River Thames, that was fun. Do you really go to the Broads like every year ,isn't it always the same places you go to, I don't understand that.,but het it's your vacation. I wish you put the map picture thing at the start of the vidz then I would know where you were going. Just one question, don't you guys have any women in England to go on vacation with?
Jeanie Smith Thanks Jeanie, I am from England, I live in Hong Kong. The Broads are around 120 miles of waterways with hundreds of places to stop and explore, but yes we tend to visit the same places. (I go to Hawaii every year too.) There are new places I go to see every year, and places I go to relax. The Broads is No 1 for relaxing. See "Never Mind the Roses" and maybe you'll understand! That was my 2014.
We come to H K and Main Land China at least two or three times a year, my husband has clients there . After like a day or two of him being at his boring meetings, then playing golf and spending all evening at dinners, I run away for a day or two Last fall I went to Suzhou in China,it was great, have you ever been there ??
Jeanie Smith Suzhou was an early visit in 1980, but I didn't have a video camera with me. We started out in Beijing, and came to Shanghai via Nanjing, Suzhou, and Wuxi. I have films of Guilin, Xian, Xiamen, Shanghai,
what I fail to understand is how you can profess such a love of the Broads, yet you dash around like most of the lager louts, Pick up the boat at Brundall and your first night is spent at Oulton Broad, then off you go to Horning that is a good six hour cruise, then you spend the rest of your week almost basing yourself at Ranworth. This seems madness to me, you must miss at lest half of what you came to see. I note that you had no thought of handing over the boat back at Brundall on the recognised handover time of 8.30 am on a Saturday, did you book an extra day. Next time you come to my county, why not spend a bit more time exploring ashore instead of this mad dash everywhere, it reminds me of the well known adage about our less welcome visitors. Pick up boat at Wroxham, afternoon tea in Yarmouth and dinner in Norwich,, what do they see. Not only that but they are obviously speeding and destroying what they came to see. Your videos are great, reminds me of my home, but don't rush it. We have an old saying in Norfolk, "do you take your time ol lad", perhaps a point worth remembering. Come back again soon, but don't try doing everything in a week, it cannot be done.
+Chris Brown I am English, I spend a week on the Broads every year. I like just slowly cruising through the countryside. We didn't dash anywhere, I fear your judgements were a little off the mark.
Hey Dennis, Did you mean the wrong ‘context’? The operative word is the important one in the sentence. Google it! The schooling is free. Paul P.S. You were quite right., “ Operative" used in the wrong content.” Is bad English
One of the best videos of the Norfolk Broads I have seen. A beautiful film. Thank you for sharing it with us.
Thanks Sally, the BBC put it on their Norfolk website! See all Diary of a Broadophile, which they also used! Paul
One of the best Broads videos I have had the pleasure to watch. My husband and I go at least twice a year. I have now had my fix till April next year.
Absolutely superb video. I never had a camera handy when we have seen Swallowtails.
The weather was awesome, really made the shooting easy. Can't beat it when the weather us like that.

I bet it was a truly amazing pleasure to be there.

Very well made film of a beautiful place, with lovely weather too. You really can't beat the Norfolk Broads for an interesting and restful holiday...
I just got totally absorbed by this video... a really beautiful interpretation of your holiday.
A perfect video. Great scenery, wonderful, articulate commentary and very well thought out accompanying music -
Best wishes from Ireland,
Mike

Be sure to look at Diary of a Broadophile!

Thanks, trying to do that and yet keep it interesting, did you see Diary of a Broadophile?

+Suzyhazelwood Thanks Suzy I really appreciate your comments especially about the narration, it is hard to get a balance. Paul
absolutely loved your video brought back many memories , thanks for sharing
I do love the merging from b&w, through sepia tones to full colour, not really sure why, but it really seems to work.

The boat would not go under the bridge, but my film, The Way We Were shot 24 years ago show it, though not HD!
I've been doing the broads scince 1967 and can't it out of my skin
good video but ranworth is before Horning plus how did you sail from the southern broads the Ranworth in 1 day? it usually takes at least 2

darran kemp thanks Darran, I just booked a boat for early June for a week. 4K this time,. I have four Broads films already at www.xscion.org. Enjoy.

Can I please borrow your voice... ?
It's so calming.
Love this part of england. I hope to live the last days of my life there
I think that eye on the butterfly you filmed is actually an eye so it can see its enemy from behind not sure though but that's what I think its for
Another great watch Norfolk Broads at it's best. Now watch Diary of a Broadophile. Norfolk Broads 2012 just as interesting. Thank you .
I wonder if this boat you had is still going which boat yard did you hire it from plz so I can look to see if it is still afloat or a boat like it

Andrew Downing We were there for a week, same as the Film "Diary of a Broadophile"

Retireing soon will buy a boat on the broads and grow old dissgracefully
