Hindi is hard if you don't start when your kids are born. I learned Hindi before English even in America and that made it much easier because my brain was then wired to think in Hindi but learning English was easy because I could learn from the hundreds of natural English speakers around me in America. That is why I taught my kids Hindi and French before they turned 6 and started teaching them English at age 5 so they were wired in both Hindi and French while they learned English from their teachers and friends.

It's probably because of his accent and how most of the Indian people here met didn't have Hindi as their main language. His Chinese accent sounds better
Well they mostly replied in English which means they can prob tell his level of Hindi isn’t good based on his vocab and accent. Regardless that’s amazing for less than a day of studying
Everyone always seems to me too how "he hasn't actually learned the language" but what you fail to realize if you can learn the language enough to speak and understand day to day stuff, that is how you then branch in to more of the specifics of the language. The sheer fact that this can lead to networking with local Hindi speakers is a huge bonus. Also it's not as easy as you think to even remember the amount he has and to speak it to a degree it's understood and to understand it when a native is speaking it.
That’s simply not true. Listening skills don’t come out of nowhere, and most of the speakers didn’t seem to particularly care he was speaking Hindi, they just gave short responses to his question. It’s much more pragmatic to focus on comprehension and vocabulary building for a while and then speak. You can only practice what you’ve already learned.
Saim Inayatullah I disagree as most people become disheartened and give up when they don’t speak the language so they quit. I think learning a week of sentence mining first and THEN doing grammar and vocabulary accumulation is the best.
@Liqrit Rs Sure, motivation is important and early speaking can help with that. That's not what Xiaoma is doing though, is he? I am so glad I subscribed to this channel.
It's because Xiaoma's pronunciation wasn't good at all, but I don't blame him - the phonology of Hindi/Urdu (and other Indian languages, they're very similar) is insanely difficult to actually get right. Retroflexes, aspirated consonants (both voiced and voiceless) - which leads to 4 different letters sounding the exact same to the untrained ear, and the fact that the "a" is actually a schwa most of the time, I would say speaking Hindi is harder than Chinese.

This guy: learning all the languages of the world
Me (born and raised American): failed my way through English class
To be fair, English class is more so the grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure rather than actual speaking. A lot of people struggle with that side of the language but can have a very wide vocabulary when it comes to speaking.
Atleast you'll get an A in School shooting
I can't believe I have all this free time but can't put myself to learn a new language
Well to be fair, you (born and raised American) do put far too many Z's in words and miss out U's where they are meant to be ;) to qualify as speaking English /s
@@ChuckFickens1972 look man. I can't help that most words are so much cooler when you add z's. Tell me that "Chuck Fickenz" isn't an order of magnitude cooler than Chuck Fickens! 🤣 I was gonna use z in my name but I couldn't pronounce it 😭💤
As an Indian I can confirm that even after 6 years of hindi lessons you speak better than me lol

Xiaoma only learns languages so he can order the off menu specials at the local foreign restaurants.
It’s not languages he’s interested in, it’s the food.
Honestly that's why I learn languages too 🤣 food #1 priority
He orders food in every video!
That is a completely valid reason everyone hides the good stuff
Honestly thats not a bad approach. I mean for these Indian places, everyone understands English pretty well so it wouldn't make much of a difference but if you went to Flushing or China Town, knowing the language can make a big difference where it feels sometimes like no one speaks English. Especially for someone like me or even Arieh/Xiaoma who can't eat everything because of religious diet restrictions.
It used to be girls for me (the infamous "pillow method"), but now it's definitely food! Married to a Hungarian girl 13 years ago, so now I speak a bit of Hungarian as well.

Very true agreed

His effort is lovely! I have been speaking Hindi all my life, and took years to learn what he is done with already.
AND I STILL MESS UP THE GENDERS
I love how you said learning languages and being able to use them help open other people up to you.
He learned a handful of basic phrases from tutors and then used them on uninterested South Asians. What did Xiaoma, or anyone, learn from the exchange "ye kya hai", "chips", "dhanyavaad dhanyavaad thank you"? Did he actually elicit new language from the native, did he make any sort of connection?
@@saiminayatullah6620 of course not. You and I both not he made no connection to anyone.
Do you disagree with me that motivation is not the most important? Motivation and a purpose?
@@liqritrs8391 Yes, I agree motivation is important. The Chinese are shocked because he speak very good Mandarin. I don't think anyone would be shocked if he speaks kindergarten level Chinese.
Exactly what this guy said☝️
Hindi sounds are very different. He couldn't mimick those sounds preferctly tbh. Maybe cause of that😳
