      My father rock was one of the original members of Rare essence, He used to play also with E.U, Mass extension and a whole lot of other go go bands. Grew up around good men also aroun uptown.

    I'm from the DMV and played in a go-go band in the late 80's. Yes Ricky (Sugar foot) Wellman was an excellent talent. I enjoyed your explanation and video.

    I think this would be perfect way for older people to keep brain functions and motoric abilities in better shape. Maybe it would also prevent alzheimer and such diseases.

    Represent DC my brother that's where I from!! DC!! DC!!
    But that is 100% true I used to be in gogo band and I still listen to gogo music every now and then.
    Gogo is basically a African upbeat rhythm mix with r&b, funk, and rock. It's all about the drums..
    And I'm a Drummer/Percussionist..

    You had the Gogo style perfect when you were doing straight 8ths on the hihat. Let the percussionist fill in the shuffle 16ths

      Thx! I've never played in a GoGO band but did tour with an MC from Maryland and he turned me on to GoGo music. Fell in love as soon as I heard it for the first time. Thanks for your comment :)

      *I'm da real deal....people never heard real Go-Go before...listen to my channel to hear the real Go-Go swag on the set...its not swung...its just a natural movement to the beat cuz I am a drummer also once uu learn it...its nothing like it* 🥁🎶

    Miles Davis' later albums like Tutu and Amandla were influenced by go go rhythms. I think Ricky Wellman also played with him.

    Good golly this is tricky for a beginner! Is there a kick, high hat, kick and high hat at the same time at the end leading into the start (kick open high hat)? So basically 3 quick kicks to finish the first measure leading into to second?

      Pearl Jupiter 14x5 Cranked up pretty high with a small bean bag on the head ... you can't see it in the video.

    Love the tutorial, how you split it up in single or double notes. Just the end was to quick. Like I struggle with connecting the last note with the first note. A tip on that would be extra cool. But still, 100%

    Mental note, keep adding notes between the bass 16th 8th then 16th note, but don’t forget the crazy notes between the hats and snare notes...!!!! Dude, too many notes..... but when played its got a mad coolness groove, I like it.!!!
