    Did I understand correctly that there were no signs of forced entry and the back door was open? That does not fit with Keith's concerns for his family's safety. How did the person/s get into the home when Keith would not even allow a young woman to come in to use their phone? Does that not indicate that maybe it was someone they knew well enough to allow entry? What a horrific case; extremely well told as always, thank you.

      Yeah this seems REALLY personal to me. I know there were absolutely zero signs of an extramarital affair of any sort, but I wonder if one of the adults had a stalker.
      Serial killers don’t usually put their victims gently to bed after, do they? Is that something that we see?

      I feel like it was the husband's ex-wife (if he had one). They allowed her in the house, Keith decided to drive the ex-wife out somewhere, and she was crazy and had a firearm. Then, they had an altercation, and she somehow accidentally killed Keith. Then, she felt like the wife was to be blamed, so she went back to the house and killed all of them.

      It's the body's last-ditch attempt to save the unborn baby's life when it's clear the mum is dying. Same thing happened to Laci Peterson. It makes sense from a biological standpoint but it's so so tragic nonetheless!

    This is one of the most horrendous and brutal crimes I’ve ever heard of. Imagine the trauma and horror of being beaten to death which causes you to give birth, and for the newborn baby to be beaten to death too. A special place in hell must surely exist and wait patiently for that monster. To me , this appears deeply personal, especially what was done to the husband

    Didn't the coroner say Keith was killed before the rest of his family?
    As stated in video, Keith estimated time of death 24 hrs family 12 hrs. So therefore Keith wouldn't have been aware of his family's horrific outcome.

    • @catlab8588
      @catlab8588 Місяць тому +3

      I thought exactly the same thing when she said something that didn’t make sense to the coroner’s timeline of death. I can’t remember what she said. The timeline of death is very confusing. If the family besides Keith were killed 12 hours before they were found and Keith was killed 24 to 36 hours before he was found, wait, I had a thought. Keith wasn’t found immediately and his death timeline was 24 to 36 hours before his body was found, that would make it so that he was dead earlier than 24 to 36 hours of being found. They really should have clarified that and said the likely timing was maybe 12 hours before the family was found dead. If I’m making any sense?

    • @jenniferratcliffe6229
      @jenniferratcliffe6229 Місяць тому +2

      The family was found dead and had been dead for 12hrs - late the next day Keith was found dead and they determined it was 24-36hrs (they had been searching for him for an extra day). So within the same 24hrs. If Keith was so security conscious it seems unlikely he would just open the door, there was no force despite the guy saying he 'over powered him' but the car was parked at the police station (so I'm guessing the car keys also had house keys, but this would suggest a different sequence of events). It makes sense to me they would initially think mafia but complicated it could be a drifter/ someone they knew/ someone in a trusted role. The guy claiming he killed them was drinking, wonder if he also smoked weed as this would tie up better...

      This was done by someone that the family was familiar with.Keith being security conscious he just wouldn’t have let anyone in.I believe this was an Eliot Rodger type killer.A man that didn’t have luck with women and in his mind couples were disgusting for him to look at.Keith’s wife being pregnant and having a son also,this guy hated him because he was having sex and got to be with a woman and he didn’t.in the perpetrators mind Keith and Elaine were rubbing being together in his face.could be someone he worked with.im sure Keith told everyone at work he was going to be a dad again and this guy had to hear it all the time.The cutting off ofKeith’s pen** tells me he was doing this as a way of saying “now you won’t get to have sex either like me.“. The perp staying to clean the crime scene up says he was comfortable being there and probably had been at the Dardeens house on other occasions.this is only a theory of mine.

    I read a book on this case years ago and have watched several crime documentaries on the case, I wasn’t even born when it took place but I remember seeing crime shows about it and being so disturbed it still hadn’t been solved, they not only “cut it off” but shoved it in his mouth!
    The woman who had knocked on their door at night several months before, her car had been sputtering and it’d just finally died, so she was trying to call her family for help, I’m pretty sure she came forward. It was like 15 years before early cellphones were a thing, it was dark and with all the crimes going on in that town, she was terrified and I don’t think he was even willing to call her family for her. So I’ve always felt it was someone SO CLOSE TO THEM, so well known to them because that’d be the ONLY WAY they’d open the door, plus no windows were broken, so they had to be allowed in, this is one of those cases that never leaves my mind, with beating the toddler and that poor precious newborn, WHAT WAS THE POINT? 😡

    This is a horrible case. Whoever did this clearly had no value for human life. I truly believe the staging was done to have an even more shocking impact on those who found the victims. The nerve of this killer is shocking. What an utterly horrific shock to the extended family and the whole community. I can’t even fathom the horror this poor family went through. The fact that this mom went through labour at some point only adds to the disturbing facts. From a psychological standpoint I truly hope that this poor mom gave birth to her child post-mortem. I mean can anyone imagine this poor mom, and her fear for her childrens lives. She would have been begging for mercy if not for herself but for her son and her unborn daughter. It’s absolutely unimaginable, and more than sickening. If the motive wasn’t robbery, then what was the reason? Was this a murder out of hate for the husband? Did they kill the family to punish Keith? Even though there is no adultery, was there a church member that had feelings for the wife or a jealousy for what the family had as a unit. So many questions. Can we really make any sense of this when we really think about it. Did someone have so much hate for this husband that in their psychotic rage their true serial killer traits reared up!! Did the perpetrator feel some remorse afterwards because they had feelings for what they did to the wife and children🤔….
    So good of you Emma for diving in to this case. I hope your coverage helps pull this case back into the forefront. No matter what this family deserves answers, and justice regardless of the many years that have passed.
    Well done, Ty.❣️🤞🏻🇨🇦

    Ive heard about this case many times and ive always thought the same thing about the trauma of giving birth completely masking the signs of rape. I mean, often in early labour the baby can come incredibly fast and the labour can be even more intense and painful. I know the damage done to my body after a traumatic birth has lasted a decade and will probably last forever. Ive been told I will need a c-section if I ever have another pregnancy due to the problems and the damage caused. Ive always thought in this case that if the sexual assault on this poor woman was so violent it could have triggered her labour. If she was assaulted with an object that could have had an impact on her cervix and that could have started her labour. Its horrific to think, but I feel like it makes sense. I think this is one of the saddest cases ive ever heard 😢

    I'm watching on catch up. 17 minutes in, I believe Keith raped and murdered the 10-year-old, or was a suspect to her family, which was why he was so paranoid in trying to protect his family, and moved into a more safe home. His wife and children were murdered in an act of revenge, and made to look like Keith was responsible, but Keith had his penis cut off for his crimes against the 10-year-old girl. Parking the car outside the police station was their way of handing in the perpetrator of the crimes against their murdered daughter. I might be wrong, but that is my take on this after 17 minutes in.

      That does seem to make a lot of sense, especially the part about leaving the car to hand the police the killer. I can't imagine the anger you'd live with if your child had been killed this way, but I feel like they would have had to be driven to psychosis to be willing to do what they did to Keith's family.

      @jodifox9041 Місяць тому +3

      If it was just Keith murdered then that could definitely be a motive but doesn't explain the killing of his wife and kids. Keith was already dead by this point so their murder's wouldn't affect him and I just can't see anyone brutally murdering innocent kids as pay back for their own child being murdered .

      @martinduffy6530 Місяць тому +1

      @jodifox9041 Emma mentioned that Keith was made to watch his family being murdered, I thought that too. They didn't intend on killing the baby that way due to her not being born, but when she was born, they murdered her too because the noise would attract attention. They still hadn't finished their intended business of murdering Keith. Murdering the son was in revenge for their 10-year-old daughter, his pregnant wife was an added bonus, I guess, but they weren't going to let her live, knowing what they had done and who they were. Like I said, I might be wrong.

    Hi Emma, another well done video and can not wait for your book to come out.
    What I was wondering if you could recommend any reading material or videos that
    Would be informative for my granddaughters on how to stay safe? I have 2 granddaughters away at university and quite honestly I am terrified for them. What doesn’t help is that I am a true crime fan and watch every thing I can find. When I see the girls I usually have a story for them and I know I shouldn’t scare them but I want them to know that they need to always be cautious with anyone. They are 20 and 21.
    I’m wondering if there will ever be a time when you would consider doing a video
    About how to stay safe . And also to explain what Do Not comply means. Love you Emma you’re the best God Bless You and your beautiful family.

    Christmas of 1997 i gave my oldest niece (32 yo) two books, Postmortem by Patricia Cornwall & My Brother's Keeper by Pete Dexter. Three days later my niece, her husband & their 5 yo son were beat down & their house burned to the ground with them inside. Their remains were in one coffin. The killers still walk free. Justice in a small Texas town.... I've always been bothered by the books i gave her, the titles were so prophetic. The only book that survived the fire was The Stand by Stephen King i had given her a few years before. It was incredible that it survived the fire & only burned around the edges. The title was burned off so i read the first paragraph & when i saw "Lawnmower Man" i knew what book it was. He was the super arsonist in the book. I know i sound like a crazy old lady but there are many things i saw & learned that will be vivid in my mind til the end of my days, photos, autopsy reports. My sister & i pored over everything & sifted through the burnt rubble every day for months. It took us awhile to comprehend that nobody would be held accountable. It destryed my our family & sent my sister to an early grave.

    How convenient for Sells to forget what he has done to the Dardeens. I find it sickening how he is laughing in his prison uniform in the photo in front of a bus.
    Whether he did it or not gives no closure to either of the two families. And for God's sake who kills a new born never mind the three year old.
    Seems to me he wanted the attention which to me makes sense. RIP ❤❤❤❤

    This is such a terrifying case to me it sounds like it was someone they knew the dad was so careful and protective over his family he wouldn’t just leave the back door open or let this stranger in to look around, people said he was so nervous and scared of the area that’s why he wanted to move like he knew someone was coming for him? Just a theory but it sounds like a mafia killing

    The irony of the Dardeen family being murdered AFTER moving to escape escalating crime in the area, reminds of the murder of 12 year-old Brenda Gere in 1985. She and her family moved to the suburbs approx 25 miles N of Seattle, because both Brenda and her mom feared the increasing number of murders perpetuated by the Green River Killer. Thinking they were safer living somewhere that at the time, was quite rural compared to where they'd lived S of downtown Seattle, made the fact that she was then kidnapped and killed by someone who stalked her from her school bus stop, is burned into my memory. I remember seeing her missing persons posters at the top of my street where I caught the school bus each day, and her being my age, with a father who was a sheriff's deputy like mine, made her case really hit home for me. Brenda's father reassured her she was safe where they moved to... but evil is everywhere.

      @@Celeste-yt6sb Right? I just remember being horrified that someone so close to where my family had just moved to, who was close to the age of myself and my sister, AND her dad was a deputy like mine, had been abducted (they knew pretty well immediately that she'd been kidnapped) If you're interested, the channel "Under the Ash Tree" did a really good video on the Brenda Gere case last year sometime, with more details than I even knew about. Ash takes a lot of case suggestions from viewers because she doesn't want to cover cases that have been done to death by other channels, which makes her channel unique. Her voice is like listening to a friend also, rather than just being a talking head, you know?

But when the crime is unsolved, I find that incredibly frustrating. The thought that some one or more did this and got on with their lives....Jeez.

    I've watched some thing about this case before. Wouldn't his Penis being removed and him being found somewhere else suggest that it was a personal crime and he had been using his Penis somewhere he shouldn't? Also, they managed to gain entry to the house, and if he was so careful and scared, wouldn't that suggest that he knew the killer? But even then, there would be no need to kill the children. It's such a strange and horrific case. That poor family.

    I agree that it definitely appears to be the work of a serial killer. I’m not sure about Sells though; was he just enjoying the power of true knowledge or lying like Lucas did in many cases? It IS sad for the family there’s no closure.

    I cant help but wonder if he was suspected of harming someones child in a sexual way (not saying he did it just saying someone thought so) or of having an affair and someone felt the need to take full revenge on him, in basically exactly how you laid out. Made him witness the killings, remove his "manhood" then kill him away from his family.
    This kind of murder happens frequently in south africa, where the wife and childrens are raped and murdered in front of the husband and he is either spaired or killed after just to torture him / have power over him.

    After decades of trying to understand why people like him do what they do I’ve come to the conclusion that I will never understand because unless you are a psychopath it will never make sense.
