  • Day 2 gets tricky- Steep hills are putting pressure on the house basement. I cut the reverse grades & build a swale. About 600 yards of fill gets moved to control the drainage. Sandy soil makes it more challenging.

Even though I dont do grading,
its so nice to see the lot before and try to guess where the problems are and guess what the grading solution will be,
then hear Stans take on the problem and solution,

A great job utilizing the equipment to its capabilities! One thing I've learned from many years of working in an excavating company is when working water control swells is if you are planning to bring in black dirt you should overcut your swell deeper than you need so when you place the black dirt you won't end up bringing the grade back to flat or sloping back the wrong direction. So basically if you need to drop the grade 4 inches, you need to cut it 10 to 12 inches and then bring it back to grade with the black dirt. That will ensure a sufficient layer of topsoil for the grass. I can say these are great videos and super educational. GG

I like the wire idea for the hydro hoses. Those buckets are awesome. But the hoses are a headache. I recently rented one of these on a brush clearing job. They had the hoses zip tied to the bucket. Zip ties broke at some point so the hoses were loose (I didn't notice in time). Driving along and one of the hoses got sucked under the left track of the machine. Sounded like a shotgun and next thing you know the windshield was covered in hydraulic fluid. It snapped the male coupler on the machine right in half. Cost me the better part of a day. It was just one of those days...

I'm not trying to over criticize when I make my comments, it's just what I see. The video's are good, I like watching them and your doing a great job making them, like I said before. I run pretty much everything but skid loaders. The older skid loaders had foot pedals and I'm 6'5" so I didn't fit in them things good. Legs were too long to work the foot pedals. Plus after being used to bigger excavators, I don't like working with the bucket, dirt, and dust so close to me. I always like my front window in excavators open most of the time and the skid steers you mostly have to close them up tight. I feel like I'm in a confined space then. So I just stayed away from them for my career. They are handy machines for sure, and have their place no doubt. I just never got used to them.

I’m not gonna mention the squeaky pins and bushes😁.. but what I would do with those hoses is cable tie an old coolant hose to the back of the bucket and a piece along the top of the boom. Route the hose up through the one on the bucket, loop over the attacher and back up along the boom to the spools through the second coolant hose. Then wrap the two hydraulic hoses in some garden hose at their highest point and cable tie them together. That way your slack is over the attacher and not one side or the other causing a pull or pinch point.

Try tying the hoses over to the left of the rock bucket, to bring the hoses out of the pinch and stretch area. Run them across the back of the left grapple cylinder post. Tie them so that the stretch load isn't directly on the fitting. Take a look at how Bobcat routes the hoses on their root grapple if you get a chance.

rock bucket hoses... run 4 long hoses. from the cylinders.. to at least the Pogo stick.. where the Tees are then single hoses to the quick disconnects.. this eliminates any fittings that can get loosened in a place where it can get yanked.. at the POGO stick you can run the Tees with the side outlet to the cat connectors.. and 90s on the ends of the hoses. or use a 90 swivel on the hose to the cylinders on the Tee.. when you mount the Pogo... if it uses 3/8 bolt.. 3 buck motor mounts from any parts store part numbers 2122 or 2123.. will give you a cushion mount if you mount the pogo like a shock absorber on the rock bucket.. you will need some big washers to do this.. you can get cupped washers in a large size if you get a radius arm bushing for a mid 70s ford Pickup 2wheel drive.. the hole in the middle will be too large but that is an easy fix.. this gives the pogo stick some wobble ability. if it does not already have it.. i have never had a pogo stick in my hands..

Is that squeaking just because u haven’t greased the machine or is there no grease point where the sound is coming from?

    • @Jordan-gr6tb
      @Jordan-gr6tb 3 роки тому +2

All the pins on the front end have grease points, even the quick coupler has two grease points. And since it’s such a new machine the odds that the pins and bushing are already messed are low, but even if he has to replace them it’s not super expensive and he can do it himself with a pin driver and a hammer.

You might look into putting french drains around the foundations to control the drainage.
Mike over at Dirt perfect can probably help you out with that.
And on your rake bucket , a snorkel tube for your extra hose running parallel with the bucket so it wont pinch the hose. You really need the full forward roll out . I 'm not criticising , l hope the suggestions help.

I'm curious about how you decide which jobs to do personally.
Is it just based on who's available? Who's skills are better for the job? Or do you pick the jobs you think you can make the best videos with? Or were you just what was left at the bottom of the barrel? lol

    • @MB12116

My bet is that it’s just scheduling. Most contractors will visit there job sites frequently and will spend a small amount of time working on it when they can. I’m sure Stan loves being on the job site working but his schedule probably doesn’t always allow it. You know what they say time is always more valuable than money.

We line up the jobs with the guys skills. Blaine and Tim are craftsman- they get the more meticulous jobs. I prefer dirt jobs-playing in a big toy in someones back yard-so I take those when the guys are behind.

@@Dirtmonkey Cool. BTW: video lengths are fine. You tend to do short ones when it's appropriate and longer ones when needed. You seldom just throw in a bunch of filler to make them longer or leave out info that's needed to shorten them. Both tactics are annoying when I see them on otter youtube channels.

You might also consider using a French Drain to aid in keeping the water away from the house.

Just curious why you would opt to only use a loader. A mid size excavator with a tilt grading bucket could’ve laid out the contour much quicker and accurate and worked around the foundation tighter with less risk. A quick push with the blade to clean up the area and a skim with a Harley rake to level would have it dressed pretty quick.

I agree. It appears he has focused more so on an army of skidsteers recently rather than nicer excavators.
