My thoughts as well Mark. But what we have learned from many other rescue/restoration people so much that has been relegated to the trash heap is better than currently made tools and just needs a little TLC and maintenance.
I almost bought an old salvage yard a few years back My wife saw my face and guess she got jealous because she wouldn't let me lol. She knew sh would never see me again
Right now it's pretty much all SKID with no STEER but know it's in the right hands to get up and running again! Could tell you were a "kid in a candy store" on Mike's place too...I was right there with you my friend!!! Look forward to video's on this and Old Red and whatever else you work on.
I just realized you're a hardware and tool picker too. Nice. We need more people like that saving old equipment and cleaning up rural areas of America.
Not to mention how much better the old equipment is compared to modern crap.. No computers pulling "called company repairman for you consumer, now pay 5K bill for lightbulb chance or i wont start until this is done"
I appreciate that! It's amazing the incredible people I meet along my journeys, and Mike happened to be one of those people! Thanks for watching, I truly appreciate the support!
Thank you for all your inspiration. My sons and I have rescued and completely rebuilt an old Belsaw M14 sawmill. We are now in the test and tune phase. Again thank you
Wow, what a convoluted trail to get it rescued. Mike had the perfect big brother machine to get it free, and every obstacle was another interesting, rusty find. I think your multiple-angle camera work really sets you apart - appreciate the effort and the editing.
I'm honestly amazed at the lengths he had to go to to drag that thing out of there. There were at least three points where i was thinking "he should be out of there around this corner". But nope, it just showed it was deeper and deeper inside that mess. Side bonus for the old owner, on top of getting rid of an old machine, he got some brush cutting done as a bonus.
Crazy that someone would just leave perfectly usable tools and equipment out in the elements like that . I takes a certain kinda skill to resurrect old neglected machines . Love the video .
Skid steered the skid steer out and rode her, boy! Great and versatile machines well worth doing up. :) Also good trailer reversing skill great to see!
Now that’s a place I would like to pick with a little cash in my pocket. Lots of cool stuff there. That heavy metal table would fit in my shop perfect.
The sawzall did a good job but that was the wrong tool for the job you needed Big Red for the trees, brush and stuff you had to move plus the 955 could have picked up the skid steer to set it on the trailer lol
Exactly... Heavy machinery is HEAVY! This will make moving & working on all kinds of things MUCH easier for my one man crew! And YES, a huge help with Old Red! Thanks for the support Jim!
Lol, ya know Frank, Old Red would have been PERFECT for getting it outta there! I'm definitely going to need a way to move him once he's back together, but have no fear, I'm working on that!
Nice to know that Im Not the only one willing to sacrifice a lot of my time to rescue an older piece of equipment. I bought a new holland l775 from a guy who was literally depreciating the poor old boy and I'm still trying to find some parts or even buy another one to use as a doner. If you come across one I would definitely be interested. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK 💪
my dad has one of these that he still uses almost daily. Never an issue! I believe it’s the exact same. his is diesel. everything looks exactly the same!
I am becoming convinced that skid steers are the most versatile work vehicles there is and getting one that you can bring back from just sitting there rotting will be a great project to follow. That fellow's property could supply years f Salvage Workshop picks and restoration projects. Amazing place. Good luck.
One heck of a guy there. You don't see them like this anymore. It amazes me how people can talk about elderly people and just convince them to do whatever. I'm glad this feller is still going good. Hopefully for many more years to come. Younger folks need to learn from this man. The younger feller was polite to him as well and was patient with him and they helped each other. Glad to see there are still good people out there.
Man I get so stoked watching where you come up with your future projects !! I love the dig it out of the weeds and trees video's !! I love places like this !! This is a mans video that's real life and a real deal !! Also you had a orange extension cord make the ride up almost all the way to loading it on the trailer it was on the back right side 😁 !! It will be AWESOME to see the videos to come for this and to hear it fire up just like "Ol Red".
I LOVE it too! What you saw on Mike property is just a TINY fraction of whats there! It will make one HECK of a Rescuing Old Iron tour video! Should be a lot of fun!
Well, this should be interesting as hell....Matt, you should be able to open a machine shop, a forge, welding shop, earth moving, landscape, construction, a tree removal company and we can’t forget trailer and motor repair and refurbishment with all the stuff you’ve got! A man of many talents and interests, a cool kindred spirit is a cool kindred spirit, who cares how old or how young they are when you have so much in common! Thanks for the episode, always a good one!
When you get this beast up/running, name it "Dragon" due to all the "draggin" it took to get it out ;) Btw great video; and you do have a great friend as you stated.
That property looked like Treasure Island to me. All that iron just sitting there. Most I was shocked, didn't look that rusty for just sitting there exposed to the elements. Wonder where in the country this is? Everyone on the West Coast has decided that anything and everything is either an Antique, Vintage or some such thing and demands a price that is absolutely ridiculous. Thanks very much for sharing. Enjoyed watching the treasure hunt, find and recovery.
Really enjoyed the video. It's a great thing to see that old Equipment used. That a great place. That don't make things like Dan and the Equipment like that anymore. Its great to see you take a real interest in the older people and there history. Make alot more like this.
I imagine this person could've sold a few of the items while they were still in good shape and built a shed to keep the rest in, to save them from the elements.
Liked the remark about the Hossfeld bender - I grew up in Stockton MN where the Hossfeld was invented - the company later moved to Winona MN 8 miles away and is still there today
That's AWESOME Mark! Yeah Hossfeld Benders are an awesome tool and incredibly capable of doing things that most people couldn't imagine! I already have 2 of them, but I still might try to get that one from Mike! I really like the stand that one is on! Some point soon you'll see me get mine all setup and ready for use! I'm going to be doing a series soon on getting my shop machines properly setup and ready for work! Thanks for the support Mark! I really appreciate it!
I have SEEN THE FUTURE!!! In 30 years, YOU will have all of this stuff on your property and YOU will help a young whipper snapper load something that they found on your property that you don't use anymore! The circle of life!!!!
I'm TOTALLY fine with that, but I decided not to wait till I'm old to start doing that! I like to share my discovery's with people that enjoy them the way I do! I already have more projects than I'll ever complete, so no sense in just keeping everything! Don't get me wrong, I'm not going to stop finding or getting more cool projects, but I'll continue to find people to share them with as well!
If it’s not running on a couple cylinders pull the valve cover first. These have a little cap that sits between the rocker arm and tip of the valve. When the valve adjustment gets loose they can fall out and the push rod will disengage the rocker arm.
I just purchased Gehl skid steer 4400 I believe yours would be newer mine needs wheel bearings and seals but runs you got a cool project there I'll be waiting for updates 👍
Awesome! Nothing wrong with OLDER! Apparently my machine also had trouble with wheel bearings and Mike added external grease zerks to all 4 bearings and a tube that extended it up so you could grease them without removing the wheels... he said he never had any issues after he did that, but I guess we'll see once I tear into it! It seems this is a common problem with these machines! Good luck with your machine, & thanks for watching! I appreciate the support!

Nice work finding the Gehl mate! I’m guessing the hydraulic release on the tracks will be something like my sdk8, two screws to undo on the primary drive pump to bypass the motors

I'm glad I don't live near a place like this, as I'd never leave and I'd be constantly bringing back stuff.
I would go through it mowing all brushes and trees down to uncover the treasures
My thoughts as well Mark. But what we have learned from many other rescue/restoration people so much that has been relegated to the trash heap is better than currently made tools and just needs a little TLC and maintenance.
So basically u would just move it all to your place mark
I almost bought an old salvage yard a few years back My wife saw my face and guess she got jealous because she wouldn't let me lol. She knew sh would never see me again
Maybe it would be easier just to buy the property 😂
The fact you stopped to give the kitty some love makes me an even bigger fan. What a treasure trove of goodies!
Can’t believe I’ve gotten to the age that I’m watching someone else work when I’m off of work
These kinds of videos are like drugs to me, I can't get enough of seeing "irreparable" stuff getting saved!

Where did he learn his skills ? looks like he was in the Armed Forces ...maybe in Tanks or other heavy vehicles?
I love exploring places like that. Steel toe boots are a must..
