This theory is further solidified when, in the Torah, God tells Abraham to take his son, his only son Isaac, for sacrifice. Ishmael could have been one of the servants whom Abraham adopted. He has very close similarities to Abraham's servant, Eliezer, who was supposed to be Abraham's heir before Isaac was born. This makes me wonder why Ishmael was not the heir and Eliezer was. It could very well be that they are the same person and "Ishmael" is a title. First, the Bible chapters like 16 and 21 were never found among the Dead Sea Scrolls, and this Ishmael being the son of Abraham is not mentioned in any carbon-dated material. This theory is further supported by the Quran, which never states even once that Ishmael is the son of Abraham. Instead, it consistently mentions Isaac and Jacob.
