I was raised a practicing Muslim and remained one for almost half my life. I attended madrassas, that is, Islamic schools, and memorized large parts of the Quran. As a child, I lived in Mecca for a time and frequently visited the Grand Mosque. As a teenager, I sympathized with the Muslim Brotherhood.
At 22 while my family was living in Kenya, my father arranged my marriage to a member of our family clan, a man that I had never met. I ran away, made my way to Holland, studied there and eventually was elected a member of the Dutch parliament. Now I live in the United States.
In short, I have seen Islam from the inside and the outside.
I believe that a reform of Islam is necessary and possible. And only Muslims can make that reform a reality. But we in the West cannot remain on the sidelines as though the outcome of this struggle has nothing to do with us. If the jihadists win and the hope for a reformed Islam dies, the rest of the world will pay a terrible price. The terror attacks in New York, London, Madrid, Paris and many other places are only a preview for what is to come.
For this reason, I believe that it’s foolish to insist, as Western leaders habitually do, that the violent acts committed in the name of Islam can somehow be divorced from the religion itself. For more than a decade, my message has been simple: Islam is not a religion of peace.
When I assert this, I do not mean that Islamic belief makes all Muslims violent. This is manifestly not the case: There are many millions of peaceful Muslims in the world. What I do say is that the call to violence and the justification for it are explicitly stated in the sacred texts of Islam. Moreover, this theologically sanctioned violence is there to be activated by any number of offenses, including but not limited to adultery, blasphemy, homosexuality and apostasy-that is, to leave Islam.
Those who tolerate this intolerance do so at their peril.
As someone who has known what it is to live without freedom, I watch in amazement as those who call themselves liberals and progressives-people who claim to believe so fervently in individual liberty and minority rights-make common cause with the forces in the world that manifestly pose the greatest threats to that very freedom and those very minorities.
In 2014 I was invited to accept an honorary degree from Brandeis University for the work I have done on behalf of women's rights in the Muslim world. That invitation was withdrawn after professors and students protested my criticism of Islam. My subsequent "disinvitation," as it came to be called, was no favor to Muslims-just the opposite. By labeling critical examination of Islam as inherently "racist," we make the chances of reformation far less likely. There are no limits on criticism of Christianity at American universities…or anywhere else for that matter. Why should there be of Islam?
Instead of contorting Western intellectual traditions so as not to offend our Muslim fellow citizens, we need to defend both those traditions and the Muslim dissidents who take great risks to promote them. We should support these brave men and women in every way possible.
Imagine a platform for Muslim dissidents that communicated their message through UA-cam, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. These are the Muslims we should be supporting-for our sake as much for the sake of Islam.

In regards to the no killing:
In context, the decree doesn’t apply universally to all peoples. The verse refers to the Israelites in Biblical history. The verses just preceding 5:32 discuss the story of Cain and Abel. It is almost certain that the good part of the verse 5:32 is actually of Jewish origin, long predating Mohammad and the Koran. This excerpt, discussing the decree’s origin, speaks for itself:
“When we turn to another Jewish record - the Mishnah Sanhedrin, we find the link between the story and what follows:
‘We find it said in the case of Cain who murdered his brother, “The voice of thy brother’s bloods crieth” (Gen. 4:10). It is not said here blood in the singular, but bloods in the plural, that is, his own blood and the blood of his seed. Man was created single in order to show that to him who kills a single individual it shall be reckoned that he has slain the whole race, but to him who preserves the life of a single individual it is counted that he hath preserved the whole race.’

There are two kinds of "preachers"... those who truly believe teachings of their religions and accept world around them is different than people thought. They don't judge world or its people for what they represent or what they look like. They don't care about wealth but takes care of those who are in need of help. They are what you could call "Prophets" or "Holy Man" in mortal form.

In Islam, there extremist are using religion in brainwashing young and anxious kids and fill them with negative images from their "enemies" and promoting their ways by giving only good parts from Qu'ran.
Same has happened with Christianity and many more major religions.
So my answer to that question is; They don't lie outsiders about their extreme thought, they lie their own members about their own path of "martyr". And because young mind is easily bendable for angry thoughts, their hate becomes reality to them and only thing they see with no hope for better future in life... We get "Jihadist". A puppet soldier. Kid soldier. Terrorist. People with no hope for better future without claiming it from others.
Just because you were born to a Muslim family and visited Mecca, that doesn't make you knowledgeable about what Islam teaches. There are 1.5 BILLION Muslims in the world, and the vast majority are far from experts on the religion. You can't speak on behalf of the Islamic tradition without being a Muslim scholar, or at least spending years of your life studying with them or at least attending their gatherings and listening to their teachings. Ayaan, while you may be popular among people who are critical of Islam (but who don't have even basic knowledge about the religion), you don't fool Muslims. We know you're essentially a fraud. You are simply not qualified to critique the religion, as you have not formally studied it. It's like someone saying "I've been to doctors all my life because of my many medical conditions, and HERE'S some insider information on the medical profession and how it should be reformed..." This is pure silliness that is allowed to flourish because of strong political agendas.

Heck, that why I watch PragerU videos in the first place, I hardly ever agree with what their saying but it is important to see an issue from all sides. And just so, I would encourage you to see the issue from both sides. If you study the Bible, you'll find that it does indeed teach love, but if you find so does the Quran if you study it. Likewise, you'll find that the Quran does call people against non believers; but, so to does the Bible. (There are obviously differences between the two scripts in belief, but they are similar in these regrades). So the problem is not in the religion, but in the culture and historical context in which each religion is interpreted around the world. Why? has it ever occurred to you that Islam, unlike Christianity, isn't just a religion? Islam is, in itself, more than just a religion, and more than Middle Eastern Culture.
The Koran has an entire section dedicated to instructing Muslims on how to rule politically, and how to implement laws and punishments. Within this, the Koran eliminates any room for personal freedoms of other people, and is explicitly mentioned within it's own text. Islam is a political-religious group, with an identity resulting in a mixture of religious pride and nationalistic pride, but has become larger than the two combined.
Look up exactly what Mullah Krekar says. His interpretation of Islam is legitimately more correct than those of a common peaceful Muslim, which is unfortunate and is exactly why Islam needs to be reformed, as stated in this video.
Islam is inherently not tolerant of other's beliefs or freedoms. Just because we're accepting of gay people in the US, doesn't mean that Omar Mateen accepted them, and his literal following of the Koran instructed him to kill the gay people in that nightclub.

Being married to a men she never met. This is more of an African and Indian problem than a Muslim problem. Forced Marriage is a problem among Christians, Muslims and atheists Africans.
In Morocco, I’ve never heard of such Practices and their is no way a Moroccan women would accept such a weird deal. We even had a law in Morocco that beef up penalty’s for domestic violence with a paragraph criminalizing forced marriage which was questioned by Moroccan’s feminist movement as good paragraph but useless paragraph as this was not something they’ve heard off and that the government should do more for salaries equality.
I completely understand that she grow up in a society that was Islamic and that society didn’t took care of her. But many people coming from others society’s , with other religion but same poverty level will be society that wouldn’t take care of her.
Otherwise, if she felt so African and blame Islam, why did she move to the Nederland’s and then to the US rather than moving to a poor Christian African country ? Because the problems she face wasn’t Islam, the problem she faced was poverty and uneducated societies.

Tim Evans - This is interesting. As a Christian myself, I always thought the opposite when it comes to Christian doctrine. As stated in the video at 3:09, "there is no limit to Christian criticism in america's universities or any where else for that matter". Society, at least from what I have seen, seems to ridicule and mock every area of Christianity so I am not sure as to what form of dominionism (or how) certain Christians are trying put forth.

Also in the Bible, if a woman's husband dies, she automatically becomes the wife of his brother! Not in Islam where she has full rights, inheritance, she can do business, etc of the modern day rights a woman has.
- The punishment for adultery, blasphemy, homosexuality and apostasy in the Bible is STONING to death! This is not a Muslim rule, again, it is a continuation of God's one message to all nations. The only point you objected to was "arranged marriage", please note that Ayaan HIrsi Ali starts with a brief introduction of herself and her life, that is when she mentions that her father arranged a marriage for her but she does not specifically say that was due to them being Muslims, it is not mentioned after that point.

The quran says that it is a revelation from God after the revelations to the Jews (Torah) and the Gospel (the story and works of Jesus). Jesus brought the message of peace to the world. He even said to pray for your enemies. He never killed one. He condemned violence. So there was no need for a next revelation, called the quran. The quran is even proven as not being a revelation from God, but a man-made book for the advantage of one man: Muhammad.
So, if the islam needs a reformation, they should return to the real last revelation from God: the Bible. They should reject the quran, and follow Jesus. That's real peace, both in their hearts and in the real world.

Adnan Tahir I am afraid that you do not understand Christianity, my friend. Jesus' coming is prophecized in the Tanach, which is the old testament in the bible. Over and over again. So there are many unfulfilled prophecies in the old testament from which there were some fulfilled and written in the new testament. Jesus' coming was one of these. Christians do accept the Tanach for 100%. Muslims reject the entire bible, because they say it's corrupted (the quran contradicts the bible). But Muhammed corrupted the bible by copying parts to the quran and changed these. Muhammed and the islam are also prophecized in the bible. That's the only thing that is right in the quran:

The book of Revelations is a poetic and prophecy book. When there is said: sword, it means to speak judge, to judge people for their deeds. Not to fight the people with a sword made from steel.

Religion doesn't need to be peaceful, as it's the cross between a cultural guide and a political tool. What point is there having a peaceful religion. Zoroastrianism was relatively peaceful yet now since it has no influence it has ended up numbering less than a hundred thousand or so followers and is rapidly decreasing.

Falamu445 That's relative to the situation. Is killing wrong? In the animal world it's not really, and religion has served a purpose as a means of controlling the masses and in some cases having a relatively okay set of rules that would help society to survive.
However, since times have changed, and the need for religion has become more of a hostile conservation of the culture that has become merged with these religions, it's ended up being soured. In particular, Islam is rather barbaric, but no more barbaric than Christianity/Judaism. Though the reformation forced the church which had been abusive and exploitative (necessary things at the time for the survival itself, like an animal in the environment) and turned it into a less powerful force politically.
Ultimately it's done a lot of bad, but nothing in the world is good, we're kidding ourselves if religion is the source of evil, when it's just a set of beliefs that humans choose to ignore or totally advocate for.
We aren't evil either, we're just dumb animals who think that we're smart because we poop in the bowl and wear clothes despite the fact we don't always need to.
