In regards to abortion you realize people are not referring to the mother’s body. The mother already has a right to life as granted by the constitution. The choice is to terminate the life of another human being. It’s the body being terminated that is in question, not the body that already has a right to life. The question is should an unborn human being have the same right to life as its mother, and if not then why?

That's why even 20 years ago, long before finding my way out of the conservative, fundamentalist Christian cult I was raised in I made the decision to never put myself in the position of being at the mercy of a man. Fortunately, there's a very strong case to be made for remaining celibate using scripture, so I just said "I feel like the lord wants me to be single so I can devote my time to him😂". I have been in the 4B movement since I was a teenager, apparently 😅. I hope there will be a time in a not far away future when people will be able to engage in heterosexual relationships without fear or discomfort, but first we need to stay strong until the moment of rupture comes. Women in relationships with men are on the front lines, and their actions will be crucial in this change.

just subscribed! Learned about you on diabolocritics, I appreciate your perspective and expertise. I just deconstructed my own faith as of the last year and a half. Learning that there's an academic study of the bible was a monumental part of that. I now understand that theological interpretations make claims to be more biblically founded, but sometimes do not holdup to scrutiny under an academic study of the bible. This was particularly difficult to do because being raised as a multi-generational mormon the prophets, including modern prophets, were the only one's who could interpret scripture as God intended. Shout out to Dan Mclellan for opening my mind to a whole new level of critical thinking from a fellow mormon. I now seek out many other scholars of the bible to diversify my perspective.

You're wrong. Many women oppose the killing of unborn children as well as men. One man's stupid comment does define all men or their relationships.

I really don't see any way to defend woman's rights by holding a Bible up, pointing at it and say:"The Bible tells us woman are equals and have rights!" If I crack open my Bible, the Standard Version translated by Martin Luther, it clearly states that woman should be silent in the community and have no right to lecture any male. The ten commandments are list woman among other things like houses and cattle next to children as property. This law was meant to secure the status of a male in society and to protect his possessions from the greed of other males. And the list goes on and on. The Bible is not a book that defeats the idea of Your Body, My Choice! It is, among other compilations of stupid ideas about how the world works, the root of the problem, not the solution. If it was true that the Bible doesn't tread minors and women as property, this discussion had ended 2000 years ago.

Dr. Bird, I'm in complete agreement about biblical texts teaching generations of men that women have little to no agency over their bodies and their futures. When a culture becomes militarized, it also becomes patriarchal. The Romans were an example of this. I just learned today that Ukraine isn't allowing men between 18-30 (as I recall) into the military probably because they might need to breed new baby boys to carry on the fight, which IMHO is what Israel was doing by allowing men to have multiple wives who were little more than breeding stock, cranking out baby boys... When Roe v Wade was decided by the Supreme Court, I do believe the court had all male justices, and these men made a historic (and I think correct) decision about female bodies: that women have bodily autonomy, so I think the idea that 'men shouldn't be making decisions about women's bodies' is perhaps limited in its scope. As women begin to make up a higher percentage of our government, their voices will be heard more and more often and I fully support that (was hoping Kamala would be elected) and that perhaps the issues women face will gain better traction. In the meantime, male doctors and researchers have been deciding things about women's bodies as far as when woman should or shouldn't have a medical procedure done and advising women of their medical options with great levels of compassion and love. Most of us have been champions of women's causes all our lives and a lot of research into women's health issues has been done by men, for women. It is people like Nick Fuentes who ruin it for all other men. I agree w/ you that this has been a common thread in toxic masculinity for far too long and is a thread that has run thru many societies, much to the detriment of women and the societies in which they live. Nick is kinda like a 'shock jock' as someone in broadcasting like myself would say. He's there to be an agent provocateur, the get clicks on his Instagram account and it's unfortunate that he likely believes what he's saying and craves the attention it brings him. Psychotic to the core. A sick individual who influences and emboldens others to follow suit. Keep speaking out because there are many men like myself who support women's causes and who grew up with very strong female figures in their lives (my grandmother shot her severely abusive drunk husband when he came to beat her up...again, and then raised 11 children. Hell we all should have a choice ( yet this gets deep cuz there is choice then there is choice ….. ) I often wonder about the lady whom is pregnant yet has trouble here . The fetus depends on the lady ie not self-sustaining could that too be said of the soul ? The soul is still as if eternal and one with Holy One and not incarcerated in the flesh , hence wether by nature or choice if fetal term not fulfilled and mother did not name a living breathing soul filled child incarnated into this world then of course it her choice . Female legislators are pro-life too though, so I dont find that line to be compelling. But i never bought the argument that pro-lifers want to control women's bodies until very recently when i started to notice the conservatives saying they want "consequences" for "promiscuity" aka they dont want swxually active women to be able to avoid pregnancy, especially out of wedlock. So yes, they absolutely DO want to control women. But it is also important to realize many pro lifers DO legitimately care about the life of the unborn.

When i saw the comment and the reactions to it, i was hoping people would make the connections you did in this video. In my 70s now. Broad personal pursuit of studies of the human condition. Biblically indoctrinated and deconstruction began at 18. Unable to get degrees but possibly qualified to opine on the intersection of these perspectives on activism and advocating for truth telling in all arenas. 👍 Kudos on this conversation.
