It's a Gift to be Simple- two-finger style with tab (for beginners)

This is a video for newbies to the thumb-lead two finger style of playing the 5-string banjo. When learning a playing style, it helps to play familiar melodies that don't require much, if any chording, and also have fairly simple fretting. This allows you to focus on the finger picking rather than fretboard stuff and learning a new tune. Using melodies that are already internalized (you can hum/whistle them) make learning a new style easier. This is a relatively long song, so it helps to break it into sections that you can memorize sequentially, rather than trying to memorize the whole thing at once, or forever relying on tab. If you grab the tab on the Banjo Hangout that I have linked here, you will see that I put circled numbers above the tab indicating how I would divide the song into bite-sized sections for learning.
