Fantastic book recap! Its so clear Gracie LOVES the book - which DEFINITELY matters! So clear and funny and engaging! I guarantee I'll rewatch this and I'm looking forward to the book 2 recap already!!!
Great job Gracie!!! You are charismatic, witty and very well spoken. I thoroughly enjoyed all of the twists and turns! Thank you for taking time to share your vision with all of us.
Amazing job!! Please continue!!! Love these books and your recap is so witty and entertaining ! THANK YOU I feel like I am back in middle school talking about the books with my friends !
omg yes i did not have people to discuss with this at the time and my body held it in for as long as it could...so now i'll make everyone discuss it all over again!!
On the topic of Alec and Clary (I'm literally only 19 minutes into the video): I love what their friendship grows into. In the first book they have their fights and hissy fits, but they forgive each other by the end of the first book and the friendship that develops because of it is honestly one of my favorites from the series. It's so funny to me that they both felt so bad for being shitty towards the other and just never bring it up again. And if there were any doubts about Alec not liking Clary, he literally called her one of his best friends in Tales Of The Shadowhunter Academy. Honestly, an iconic friendship with a dynamic that I'm still to this day low-key obsessed with. I started reading the series in 2012, when I was 13 years old. The whole Shadowhunter universe quickly became one of my favorite things, and I still (re)read the books quite a lot. Hell, I'm doing a reread of the tmi books right now (I'm on book 3). I'm glad to see more content getting made around it. Not just you and Cari Can Read, but BreeK (who did videos on the Clockwork books) too. I will definitely keep up with your videos on the topic. Those first 19 minutes have been great and I have been sold on your vibes.
How do you not even have 200 subscribers yet?!?! This is,, such high quality content,,, as someone who also loves the "someone rants in extreme detail about their niche interest and summarizes it" videos, i can attest,, this one is great,,, also, been a hot minute since i read the books,, so its fun revisiting the story with this vid! Hyped to see the next one if you end up making it!!
the nostalgia is strong with this one...thank you! very glad you could feel the love, spent 6 months on this and have spent another 5 on the second one already!
Wow what a great recap! I love watching these recap videos when the person recapping is such a super fan, makes it so much more fun ! I will be subscribing and (in)patiently waiting for the next one! ❤😂
Loved your recap, subscribed, now I'm hoping that you do the other books, too! I really appreciate that you bring both perspectives to these books, how it was reading them for the first time as a teen, and again now as an adult.
I'm so glad I stumbled upon you 'The Host' video and you mentioned your City of Ashes video because I am going to absolutely devour this series. When I tell you that my friends and I had an UNHEALTHY obsession with this and the Infernal Devices series, I cannot stress enough how much it took over our lives. The fangirling over exit scenes and various characters like Jocelyn and Valentine is so real. I hope you do end up going through the infernal devices too because I would love to hear your thoughts on everything surrounding Jem, Will, and Tess and which team you were on (if you did get into it)👀 Also, I have to pick out a few of my favourite lines from this video: "It's giving: my password is 1234" "I hate it when that happens. I hate it when I trip over a knife and all of a sudden I'm making out with my crush." "Nine feet tall, oozing, and old bones... same" "I will not be at your Thanksgiving dinner. I'm busy that day and I can't make it" Honestly when you were reading out what Abbaddon said, all I had going in my head was that scene from Buffy where she's like "Alright, I get it, you're evil! Do we have to chat about it all day?" P.S. My brain appreciates your need for the strings to be 90 degrees
Oh my god thank you!! This is so nice! I DEFINITELY was into TID as well and have big thoughts on that hahaha Hoping if this does well enough, I’ll keep going, but thank you for watching!!!
wow!!! the commitment and dedication for this is incredible! thank you so much for putting in the time to create such a fun and engaging video and for sharing it with all of us! looking forward to the next one 🤗❤️
this is a very random comment but anyone else found it kinda trippy to stare at all the black lines 😂😂 also appreciate the credit to cari can read ! id love to mention jenny nicholson too, who did the original long form with the vampire diaries video :)
Yes, thank you for bringing up Jenny! Absolute respect and honor to those who forged the way! And yes the black string system really became my downfall especially in the next video haha
THIS WAS EVERYTHING!!!! I read city of bones about 3? Years ago and basically was like …. Girl wtf I’m done. But my best friend loves the series & im about to take big exams. So I need a long winded series that’s serious but not too serious and is always available at the library. Hence I return. But I could barely remember what happened and no way in hell was I repeating the experience of book 1. Love ya for the set up. Hated the experience. Also it’s super refreshing to see your little snips at it but like said w love. Made me go ok we can acknowledge some of the cringe but still enjoy it. Also I feel like you made me like Jace better 😂 maybe I just need to think of him as more sarcastic bc I hateeeeeedddd him and that’s really what killed the book for me. Pls do more!!
Everything about this comment is like exactly what my hope was making this so thank you so much like this is so healing hahahaha part 2 is coming out in a few days!!! And yes I know it’s so cringey but I CANNOT help that I loved it so much I did I loved it
@@GracieTalksAboutThings I feel like most people I talk too or see online want to kinda gloss over some of the “oh that’s not…” parts too which honestly make it an even better discussion. Takes my mind out of this is a troupe filled slimy YA from 2013 which is honestly where my brain went. Also watching the tv series only as a teen didn’t help! I’m actually excited to get into book 2 now :)
@@GracieTalksAboutThings and I totally get still loving a book bc of nostalgia no matter how cringe it is. Bc I’m definitely the same about some other books. But getting into it as an adult is hard haha bc you don’t have teenage brain hormones to fuel u. You did a fantastic job of discussing this unbiased from the nostalgia
@@nicolestephens2813 Yeah City of Ashes was like the fight of my life in terms of trying to discuss it and get through it without being like NEVERMIND I'LL DO A DIFFERENT SERIES for the "oh that's not...." parts
Thank you!!! It took FOREVER I tinkered with each one for the longest time. I used the prompt "digital art" at the end of all my descriptions, so they would all be in that same style and then just fed DALL-E the book character descriptions, but a lot of them I had to get so specific and really tried to put in easter eggs for every one.
cant wait for your next vid! i read TMI back in the day and this was a trip down (slightly cringy for me lol) memory lane. also hard agree about Clary and Izzy's characterizations in this book. they become great friends as the series progresses but Clary is a pick me/not like other girls and Izzy is a mean girl. let 👏🏼 girls 👏🏼 be 👏🏼 friends 👏🏼. lol
So I initially was going to do Infernal Devices, but saw someone had already covered that, too, so I decided to just do TMI since it was the book that got me into reading in general. Which other Clare series would you want?
@@GracieTalksAboutThings How about the last hours series? I don’t think anyone has covered them yet. Also, I’ve watched this video like 5 times and it gets better each time I do 👏👏👏
@@NickGam-bm4by OK adding this to my list! As you can imagine I have so many series I've started or want to do, so I can't promise anything but I love to know what people want to see! I'll definitely do the first 3 TMI books and I have some normal (non 3 hour long deep dives basically) videos I'll share in between the TMI and those will be all over the place with different fandoms. Then we can pick another one to deep dive!!
To answer your question about if people actually touch the photos of people they love when they miss them. I do lol Sometimes when I’m at work and I miss my girlfriend, I like boop her nose in the photo of her hanging at my desk Now to say if it’s normal I’m not sure because my coworkers saw me do it and all of them were like????? Hahaha (My gf thinks it’s sweet tho)
A word of advice. Don't use AI. Message fan artists and ask for permission to use their art, many will be happy to grant it. AI is disrespectful towards the artists, including those in the fandom, and it undermines your work in an unfortunate way.
I appreciate your advice! There’s definitely a larger conversation around AI right now and what it means for artists, and I agree we absolutely need to support artists. My intention was still to create art as a fan for this series. I used the physical descriptions for the actual photo generation, which is the AI that we're referencing, and then I did everything myself (outside of AI) with editing softwares. This is where I got to add personal touches and easter eggs for each character, and I ended up spending a lot of time on these and got to be really creative with it. I totally hear what you’re saying and if I ever had a meaningful platform, I’d love to be able to support/give attention to everyone who creates any type of art (fanart, edits, videos, etc…) in this fandom and any other fandom I cover. I appreciate you sticking up for creators! This is obviously my first video ever, so I’m still learning a lot. Will continue to do the work/research/get advice on the best way to handle this.
Please don't use AI. AI takes artist's art without their consent to make new pieces. What you are "making" with AI is actually just art-chimeras of stolen art pieces... I think it's always better to use actual fanart and credit the artists. That being said, thank you for all your amazing work on the video!
Thanks for the feedback and for the respectful way you shared this. I should have thought more about the implications of using AI for this, and I regret that I did not. The second video is coming out next week and is already filmed and complete with AI images again, so I'm going to add a disclaimer in the video to discuss this issue, but I want to let people know that that is not me ignoring the feedback. The video was already completed. I'm going to do more research and figure something out before the third one. I also want to say that DALL-E (which is the only AI source I used) has an opt-out form for artists who do not want their images being used to train DALL-E. I used OPEN AI (who owns DALL-E) specifically for the considerations they make for creators. I am not saying that makes anything okay or that that's perfect, and I'm not arguing your point about AI in general, but I want to share that I prioritize respecting and supporting all creators, and will continue working to make sure that I do. The opt-out form is in this video's bio, and I will discuss all of this in the second video to raise awareness on this and reach out to the fan art creators.
@@GracieTalksAboutThings I think it's very thoughtful! Very happy if you did some research and put a disclaimer, I think it's very respectful. Also it's just a point to take into consideration, but it doesn't overshadow your work at all. I hope it doesn't prevent you or anyone from making such good videos. I've never seen or read the mortal instruments and got curious about it and I'm really glad and thankful you put many hours into explaining all of this and I can now take a peek into this universe. Thank you.
You're gonna blow tf up, no doubt about it.
