Hey! I'm the partner of the person who came up with the idea for the CMG ARG, its so cool to see people talking about this project, they worked so hard on it and I'm glad it's getting so much exposure!
They did a great job! And they were really helpful during the production of this video, supplied me with everything I needed whenever something was missing.
Cool math games is something I grew up on, I love that they made this. It was like the only fun website allowed on the school computers.

Fun fact: for this video I was going to make a little "ad break" to plug my patreon, and it was going to be in the style of the dogman in crawlspace-scene but with my cats face, but I ended up not having the time unfortunately. It's a great effect and I love how the ears are separate from the face, makes the tracking all that more uncanny. Great job!

dude your series is so scary. I haven't watched it, or this video explaining it yet,(cuz I'm too scared lol) but I'm losing sleep over the dog in the thumbnail. ik it's not real but it's keeping me awake at night 😓 cuz i cant stop seeing it in my brain. but you made a good horror 👍👍
Unsolicited Advice #2 is honestly so much more valuable than you expect. As someone who has followed many ARGs, the audience is incredibly capable of waiting months (sometimes a year) for an update. Marble Hornets and EverymanHYBRID, two of the biggest ARGs on UA-cam, spanned multiple years with gaps of months where there was no new content available. Beyond the patience aspect though, giving time in between uploads gives the audience a chance to theorize, piece together puzzles and lore, and engage with each other and you as a creator on the socials associated with the project. It's incredibly important to take your time with the content that you're producing, especially in a project that you should expect to be analyzed frame-by-frame for potentially years!

Dog Nightmares manages to pretty accurately capture the same vibes/mentality I have with my severe paranoia/paranoid Schizophrenia. The way things happen, when and how, it all feels pretty much exactly how I expect things to happen at night/near a crawlspace with me.
Wow, I love your addition of perspective and openess. I have a neighbor and sometime friend with some severe paranoia issues. I'm not a doctor, so I will not try to diagnose her fully and some I try to be a good friend even while she is having episodes, it is sometimes difficult. She has more than once accused me of being part of some group that is stalking her. I've never stalked anyone. When I got a new truck, I started parking it in an opposite direction to how I parked previously because it's a big vehicle and I do not want to risk aviator hitting her vehicle or the surrounding vehicles that park alongside her while backing up. She sees vehicles that aren't present and people watching her that are either real but simply going about their own business with no knowledge of her existence or people that do not exist at all. I know she had problems but try to be understanding without feeding into her worries and change making them worse. Is there any advice that you'd be willing to share on how I can be a good friend to her and how might be the best way to encourage her to get help regarding her paranoia?
@@Meggzilla Look into "gangstalking". Your friend seems to have either fallen into that rabbit hole or has a similar version of paranoia. Under no circumstances should you let her know about the concept of gangstalking as it's like a memetic hazard to people who are already paranoid. It's just good for you to understand the situation and maybe find tips from people who have tried to help their loved ones who suffer from this before you.
@@aliceiscalling I've heard of gandstalking, and while she's never used the word, I feel like SHE feels like that's what's going on. I didn't ever mention the concept to her, nor will I, as you advised. I don't want to validate that as a possibility. I'm not saying that there aren't actual victims of gangstalking, but I know in THIS case, it isn't what is going on. She confronted me this morning for "about to make the list" of people watching her or whatever I'm guessing because last night I was craving chocolate, so I went up the street to the corner store and bought chocolate. I was just vibing, doing my own thing, listening to a podcast, came home, walked upstairs, went inside without seeing or interacting with anyone and went about my business, made a couple rosaries, watched some TV, just stuff I'd normally do... But according to her when she was accusing me of being part of her conspiracy, I purposely just moved my truck to shine my headlights at her window and was talking to someone in a black Cadillac. It was night time when I went to the store. It's not legal obviously drive without lights, but I did not deliberately shine them in her window. I actually have developed the habit of turning my lights off as soon as I stop the vehicle to prevent her getting upset. I don't know anyone in a black Cadillac, didn't even see one, didn't speak to anyone. It's not the first time she's imagined a vehicle and told me of it's existance as though it's fact. It is possible she heard the podcast I was listening to playing and mistook it for conversation. I'm gonna have to make sure I am using an earpiece or something. Her guy saw her this morning and came and got her and told her she needed to stop that I wasn't doing anything to her, but I don't know what to do. I'll give your advice a shot. Thank you so much and thank you for listening. I'm lost here. I know people who are genuinely I'll don't choose to be. Thank you so much.
Dog nightmares is so flipping spooky... It's the middle of the day and I'm on edge. I love these videos. Sometimes it's hard to find a new ARG to get into so thanks for enlightening the community~
Honestly I'm just relieved that I wasn't the only one who found those weird dog head videos as nightmarish. I remember them freaking me out as a kid but when I mentioned it to my parents they never found it unsettling in the least

0:53 THANK YOU for saying this. I mentally kick myself every time I call something I cover an ARG, when it isn’t. I do my best to make people aware of it, but when crafting that attention-grabbing title, it always irks me.
Also years ago I had a huge Weimaraner phase, and Dog Nightmares particularly messes me up in that regard.
I'd love to watch more args but I need a layer of separation that comes with watchihg a video on the args because I'm a little pissbaby who needs to cover my feet when I sleep so that the scary arg dogman doesn't eat me.

7:18 Watching that scene again but with brightness being higher makes it more uncomfortable actually seeing the Dog creature move. With how the janky animation looks when the Dog creature is walking enhances the monster’s uncanniness.
To me, that makes it more eerie that it was completely in pitch black darkness but the women who’s recording still noticed that the Dog creature was stalking her.
Dog nightmares is one of the few args to genuinely unnerved me and honestly I’m happy that this online horror series is getting more attention with videos analyzing the channel.
Bro you have KNOWLEDGE and UA-cam NEEDS more truly knowledgeable people covering these art projects (I assume you were or are a film student? 😉)
I was a film student at one point in my life, yes :) but when it comes to ARGs I've also ran a couple of decently successfull projects myself, so I hope to be able to share what Ive picked up on with other budding creators.

There's a really cool Arg web series called Welcome to dreamworld by UA-camr rainbot
The character's designs are really fun. The whole series somehow manages to feel larger than life and also like a little kids drawing at the same time. And that vibe only gets more confusing in the best way possible as the story goes on.
Dog Nightmares is one of the few things that actively unsettles me in this space, i hate it so much but in a positive way. can't stand to actually look at it, but it's dear to my heart.

About ARGs, if you ever do another one of these videos, could you show us some that is _not_ horror themed, please? I am not good with spooky things, but love puzzles and investigation games and I remember having a lot of fun with both The Dark Knight's and The Batman's marketing ARGs, thought I never saw the ending of the first one 😅

Film is incredibly high resolution. It should never be squashed down to low res digital video for narrative/ lore purposes. Unless it's important to know that the film was digitized in, like, the early 2000s. It should always be in the best resolution a available at the time
What if the person doing the digitisation in the Lore had poor-quality digitisation tech
I will never forget the first ARG I stumbled onto by complete chance. It was a blog about a man uncovering the mysteries of a creepy house. The journal entries end before he decides the enter the house. Then I found weird comments in the blog posts which led me to another blog of a friend trying to find out what happened to the first person. Genuinely creeped me out as a kid and made me question whether it was real.

I'm ngl, ppl pitching an ARG SHOULD be doing it in character. As someone who has followed ARG/unfiction stuff for ages, breaking character to try and get attention to an ARG or whatever is pretty frowned upon

After watching Dog Nightmares I can say I have no idea what was happening. I love the idea of analogue horror but 99% of them just confuse me
That’s honestly my theory as to why videos summarizing them get more popular. The originals leave A LOT to be confused by, leading people to look for answers *anywhere* they can find them. Others probably just forego the original altogether because if it makes no sense to them, why watch it _and_ the explanation?
And I get it, leaving stuff to the imagination is important in horror. But in my opinion a lot of analogue horror series leave too much to speculation, leading to downright confusion over fear. It’s a hard line to balance and I wish more analogue horror managed it.

I was working on a webcomic that had ARG parts in it, i finished the comic but no one actually found the ARG, I hinted at something hidden in the artists comment, and people did try to find it, until today no one ever has.
It meant to continue into different comics later, but life is getting in the way and its far to time consuming. But the comic and the beginnings of an arg is still there, if someone can find it.

While there are other channels who are intentional about not stealing thunder from the projects they're highlighting (which is good!), someone opening with a mission statement of "my videos are not a substitute for your participation" is still really refreshing. This is cool! Was genuinely surprised to see some ARGs I haven’t seen before.
I really wish ARGs would move away from Twitter though. It hasn’t been fiction-friendly in a long time (years ago it stopped letting you scroll through an account past a certain number of tweets), and it’s gotten even worse in recent years (Elon made it so you can no longer view tweets in order and can’t view accounts at all without an account of your own). Plus with how much gets removed from the platform, it’s just not a viable platform for telling stories anymore. IMO it would be better to do it on an original website, or purely on UA-cam.

All 3 of these seem like they are for a young audience or something. Idk they just feel like they are of kids/teens. So its a pass for me on them. If im going to spend the time diving into an ARG, i want it to mess me up for months. Like, i want to genuinely be scared. But with these, for instance, with that dog one, man, it made me actually laugh out loud when it was revealed in the attic. It felt like i was watching "Nick at Night"
personally I love when horror makes me laugh- it still comes with an adrenaline kick! Of course it’s a mixed bag; I laughed during Talk to Me even though I was actually uneasy, and I laughed during the FNAF movie because… really? a kid with bleeding black eyes???

I really don't like the trend of calling pretty much any piece of fiction ARGs. it's more confusing than it is helpful.
it's kinda like if you just called any long-form UA-cam video, regardless of its content or context, a video essay.
This video got me interested in the SSF ARG months ago, and my god NOTHING has come of it as of yet. They’ve put out an album for one of the fictional characters though, but no idea where the story is going

I don't mean to be pedantic but it's really wierd to call a series of creepy vieos ARG. Game is supposed to be something you interact with, progress through and can alter the outcome of.
It's like calling a video game "A B movie" - it might have simmilar vibes but it's not a movie - it's a game. In the same way Dog Nightmares is not a game - it's a video series.

SCP is ARG?
Not all SCP entries are ARG, but there have been a handful that became ARGs. like SCP-2212

@@UFJoy ARG can stand for augmented or it can stand for alternate. SCP is an alternate reality setting, it ask the question 'what if' to our world and creates an alternate. And in the example of SCP-2212 you can't read the novel that they have written unless you start solving the puzzles on the entry page. There are several stories that contradict each other but once you solved all puzzles you will be presented with the final true story. Its probably the simplest form of ARG. But 99.9% of all SCP are just novels. A handful few are simple ARGs. But nothing big with actors that will reply to messages like the ones in this video.
