Thank you, and thanks for watching! I've noticed there's not too many recent reviews, and it does seem like Magpul's mounting hardware quality has improved compared to what I've heard on some of the older reviews.
I just realized after having it for more than a year and a half that you can move that riser back. Extend the Zhukov stock and you move the riser towards the back. You don’t have to use both notches on the stock you can just use one notch and it’s very sturdy and now it makes sense.
That's a good idea. For me that would extend the stock way too far out and would mess up my length of pull, but if it works at that length for you then that's a good option for the cheek riser.
Agreed! If I remember correctly I read the Magpul Zhukov stock was originally based off the original AK-12 prototype stock. Then, the production AK-12 switched to the buffer tube type, but now is back to a simiar design to the prototype, which also more closely resembles the Zhukov, so the design kinda diverged and came back together which is interesting.
My biggest pro of the right side folding (and why I prefer it over others) is it makes it more compact as you still have the charging handle on that side sticking out. And for lefties, the charging handle doesn't stab you in the back or chest every step.
Thank you! The chassis is a Sureshot USA MK2.1. I’ve actually done a few videos on it already that I’ve linked below if you’re interested in more information on it. I took some of the play out of mine by pulling the stock completely out and putting duct tape in a couple places to tighten it. The one my brother had when the zhukov first came out actually had less play stock. I was surprised when I got this one recently, that it had that much.
As always, excellent review Jang. This is what I also have on my SGL 31-68... I seen hate on other sources about this stock. However IMO, this is an excellent choice, specially if its intended for a home-defense application. The material and craftsmanship is more than adequate. If its good enough for Rob at AK union and some operators currently in the Ukraine conflict, its worth the price ticket.
Thanks for watching and commenting! I saw quite a few negative reviews on this stock myself, but this stock is definitely one of the better ones out there.
When you close the stock hold the button down to extend the longevity of that hinge. Otherwise it might start folding on you just from getting hit lightly.
Thanks for the review, just got one of these for my Saiga 308 and its very nice even for a polymer stock. I dont currently have a cheek riser on mine. I run a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6x on Midwest industries side rail scope mount and the cheek weld feels pretty good. I might order all the different cheek risers just to experiement with anyways, I'm not really worried about needing to shoot with the stock folded considering is 308 lol.
If no one mentioned it and if you weren't aware, there are pistol grip plates that have sling loops. Most of them are clip style and not a full pass through like what you see on the back of the zhukov. Also blueforce gear has wire sling loops for your sling, which quiets it down.
I've seen the pistol grip plates before. I've never really liked them as they get in the way of my hand when I'm firing. I use the Blue Force Gear ULoop for my front sling attachment. Those are great and very quiet.
Thanks! I'm actually not planning on putting a dedicated WML on this rifle as I intend to use this as a practice/training AK so I can conserve my SLR-104 and 5.45 ammo better, since that SLR is my home defense rifle currently. If the SLR goes down for whatever reason I'll move the light from that rifle to this one.
Nice video. When you posted on the screen you had about 800 rounds through that rifle since you added the stock it made me think. Because of ammo prices I try to stock up when I got extra money and I also ration my ammo. Right I limit myself to 120 rounds of rifle and 100 rounds of pistol ammo per range trip to keep consumption down. Of course I’d like to be doing more but daily dry fire keeps me sharp. Do you ration your ammo ? What kind of ammo procuring routine do you have?
Thanks for watching! I usually do a very similar rationing process where I take ~60-120 rounds of rifle ammo loaded in magazines. The exact amount I take depends on the rifle I'm shooting, I usually take a smaller amount of 5.45 since it's harder to get now, but if I'm taking a 5.56/7.62 x 39 I'll take 120, occasionally a bit more. For pistol I usually take around 50-100 rounds. As for my routine for procuring ammo, I have several ammo cans I fill for each caliber I shoot. I try to sort the boxes with ammo roughly from oldest-newest and pull ammo from the oldest can first. Once that can runs low I order another case of ammo and start using the next oldest can of ammo.
Hey there. It's pronounced Shoekov, not Zookov. Just like the Admiral Georgy Zhukov from WW2. I like this thing a lot, it definitely influenced the latest AK but stock, which came with the AK-19 (AK-12 Update). Would be interested in a comparison of both and what the quality difference is. Thanks for this video.
Thanks for watching and pointing out the correct pronunciation! I'll keep that in mind. As for the AK-19 stock, I don't have one on-hand as they're quite expensive (usually around $400-$500), and I don't have any rifles they would fit. The AK-19 stock only fits 5.5mm side-folding hinges, and my side-folder is a 4.5mm. But they do seem quite interesting, and if I ever get the chance to get my hands on one, I'll definitely make a video on it.
@@Feldmutze Yes. Also the latest AK modernization got a adjustable cheek riser aswell. Thanks for the info about different pin diameter, didn't know that. But we don't get this magpul but stock here, at least I haven't seen it so far. Greetings from mother Russia.
Thanks for the suggestion. I actually quite like the current height of the red dot as it's quite comfortable, the cheek riser on this stock just provides a bit better point of contact but it's not absolutely necessary.
On mine, when the stock is extended a couple notches, it has play in it and makes a clicking sound when pressing against your shoulder. Does yours have play when extended and make a sound? I'm more worried about it breaking upon recoil. And it's fine (tight/no noise) when not extended at all. Update: I just saw at the 10:40ish mark where mine does exactly the same thing, making that noise and slop. After having it for awhile have you had any issues with the stock extended.
I haven't had any other issues, and I've been using this stock a lot since making this video. The clicking sound is still present, but is no different than how it was in this video, and the stock is still sturdy otherwise.
Very good point. Also, I didn't realize the price went up on the PT-3 that much. When I bought the PT-3 it was $330, and at that price I'd have said it's definitely worth the price difference but not when it's 5x more.
The current height of the red dot puts my neck is a quite comfortable position for a heads-up shooting position so I'm not crunching down my neck to get a sight picture. The cheek riser on this stock provides a better point of contact but it's not absolutely necessary, and I still get chin weld even without the riser.
I don't think it would allow charging and firing. If I remove the cheek riser I barely have room to charge the rifle, so even their shortest cheek riser would interfere.
Probably not as this Zhukov stock works well for me. Actually, had I known about Midwest's Alpha stock about a month earlier I would've certainly tried it on this build instead, but now since I already have the Zhukov on here, I'm not too inclined to replace it unless it breaks.
I've actually tested that in the past out of curiousity, and unfortunately no it doesn't due to the barrel length. If you get something just a but shorter like the AK-104 you'll be good to go.
For home defense I use 69 gr. Lugansk surplus ammo, it works great from the past tests I've done. For practice I've been using a lot of Golden Tiger lately as there's a lot of it in-stock still and it runs well in my experience. I also use a lot of Barnaul though I'm running low so there won't be much more of that. I try to avoid TulAmmo as I've had a lot of bad experiences with it, though I have quite a bit of it since it was the only ammo in stock when I last bought a bunch of 5.45.
@@Feldmutze yea i hate tulammo, bad experiences. thanks for the recs and the videos. im thinking of getting the chassis and you are the only person with good videos on it
6:25 the length of pull on the stock shouldn’t correlate to eye relief on a “scope” or prism you want the cheek riser closer to your optic imo. What you’re saying is you want 12” between you and the optic 🤨
I didn't say that at all. I'm saying you can't physically put your cheek on the cheek riser if your stock is pulled all the way out unless you have a giraffe neck and are leaning forward. Curious why you want the cheek riser closer to the optic itself?
I looked at them a few reviews of them in the past and decided to get this Zhukov instead as apparently those stocks don't lock in the folded position which I didn't like. Other than that they do seem like they're well made so I still might end up getting one, maybe on a future build I'm planning.
The height of the red dot on this setup makes it almost the exact same as an AR with a Unity riser, and the advantages of that have been talked to death on other channels, so I'd recommend checking out those.

@@makisven Just the mounting portion is different to fit on the Yugo trunnions. Everything else is the same as the standard Zhukov.
I find it funny how much the revised AK-12 stock resembles a Magpul Zhukov directly installed through the receiver hinge.
Agreed! If I remember correctly I read the Magpul Zhukov stock was originally based off the original AK-12 prototype stock. Thanks! I just matched it. The stock is FDE polymer, and I had the chassis cerakoted in FDE directly from Sureshot.
I'm not a fan of plastic, but Magpul did their best with it.
