I am a recovering addict myself. My big moment was when I realized all the doctors at the hospital knew- I was a liar, I was faking pain to get high. When this one emergency doctor actually sat down with me and said “you are 25, you have your entire life ahead of you. Trust me this is not a path you want to continue down. This will kill you.”.. there was more to that conversation than that but, that’s the part that struck me the most. That moment changed me. That day - I called my entire family and maybe one close friend and told my truth, that I thought I was hiding for 7 years. I thought nobody had a clue. In the beginning I’m sure no one had a clue but, wow their reactions were surreal. Most said something along the line of “I know, I never knew how to approach you” and only a couple family members were dead shocked. Mostly because it was my husbands family and they didn’t no what was happening behind closed doors and didn’t know me as much as my own family yet. Anyways, I’m saying all this in response to how you are talking about how to deal with an addict. I wanted to mention that a couple years after I got sober, I told my family doctor who was so proud of me about that conversation with the ER doctor that one day. My family doctor asked me for advice. He asked me how he should approach a patient or someone he knows is an addict.. which to mean blew my mind. I was honoured to be the one to teach HIM. A doctor! And I said basically all the the same things you are saying in this video. This doctor is not my doctor anymore because he moved but I hope he’s out there saving some lives with that advice I gave him. It was wonderful knowing too that he actually cared about how he would handle that situation. Sorry for this novel btw!

I never had this kind of response to anything I’ve ever posted on UA-cam, and I’m honestly overwhelmed. Thank you for your kindness and compassion in the comments. Thank you for subscribing. And thank you to those who were brave enough to share their experience.
As I mentioned on my social media - I decided to fully share my experience in order to heal and let go of fear. I will be posting my song “Sober” on April 1st, and once I post the reactions to part 3 & 4 of DWTD (since you guys want it), I’ll be moving on from talking solely about my addiction. It will come up sometimes, as it is a part of my journey, but it’s not all that I am and I would never want anyone to assume they need to identify as one thing. We are all multi-faceted and I choose to embrace that rather than stick to one thing ( hence the chaos of this UA-cam channel lol).

I don’t even know how to put it into words how proud I am of you. My mother struggled with… substances. That led to a strained relationship that I can’t even force myself to want to heal. It feels like she’s a traitor, but there’s so much I don’t know and don’t understand about her past that forces me to be sympathetic to her, yet it almost feels like it condenses into these lyrics: “ I know I’m wrong, so untrue to feel that you chose it over life. I haven’t even walked a minute in your shoes, I can’t begin to choose between me and you. If I walk away, I’m sacrificing you for life, so I won’t go down that road, but if I stay, feels as if we’ll both wash away into a cloud of obsidian disarray. Yet it still feels as if you were hurt first and I was hurt worse.” I was 6 when I wrote that, shortly before I swore a pledge to be sober my whole life. Which, not like I had really encountered actual substances, like, what 6 year old takes drugs like that? (Well there was one time I wanted to die so I tried some antidepressants. (They were my moms) Didn’t work. I threw up. I was very ashamed of myself.) sooo yeah, good luck, and honestly I hope I don’t ever be a stupid child like I was in that moment ever again.

Hi! I’m new here! You popped up and thought I’d check out your video. I’m not even close to finished it but I was like loving your reactions because mine were exactly the same lol. I’m sorry you didn’t get to see her in Toronto. I was lucky to see her in Montreal that tour. Her six years sober was 2 days before I saw her, and than it wasn’t only a couple weeks after that she relapsed. The OD day was so horrific for all lovatics I’m just so happy she is alive. I’ll continue watching now

Right!!!!! The fucken models. And how her team literally controlled her in every aspect. If you haven’t seen it there’s a video of Demi on the Ellen show, it’s her most recent time there. If you have not seen that you will be fucken SHOCKED at what her management team used to do to her that Demi didn’t even no about regarding food and green rooms..

Very powerful. Thank you for making this. I have been addicted & physically dependent on opiates for 13 years. I am 27 years old. I have reached out for help from my personal doctor as well as my local health department but they wont even call me back to schedule an appointment it is so discouraging. We must have better care for addicts. I hope to become a substance abuse councilor and help others.
