    Thank you so much for this information! Notes for later reference:
    - American restaurant Italian or Greek food is not real Mediterranean food
    - Island of Crete, highest longevity rates in the world, very little disease
    - Mediterranean diet helps benefit from head to toe
    - A lot of healthy fats: real extra virgin olive oil
    - Fruit and veg based diet cooked with olive oil and fresh herbs
    - Meat, chicken, fish in small amounts
    - Main protein is beans instead of meat
    - Alcohol (discusses more in future videos)
    - Lots of water and coffee
    - Small amount of cheese

    I moved to the Mediterranean diet to help combat my Schizoaffective diagnosis that I wake up and battle every.single.day. Harvard Medical School's post, "A practical guide to the Mediterranean diet" (along with some other open source research) helped push me to take on this lifestyle. I just started my journey on this diet about 2 weeks ago so I am not ready to make a review yet on how this diet has helped me but I can say that in just 14 days, I can FEEL a difference in my temple. Excited to see how this affects me in the long run! Thank you so much for this information. I came here to educate myself further so that I may better understand what truly IS the Mediterranean diet, and how it can promote healthy habits and healing for me in my life.

    Remember a big fight in foods now days is with the government letting bad ingredients being put into food and agracultural farming. Natural is best and by far organic is best also. Yes organic is more costly but remember eating too much is the American way, Super sizing, add ons and other gemics for sale. I will be 68 in March 15, 2018 and have had 1 common cold in 28 years doing lots of natural, easy and costless things. I lost 60 pounds on the Mediterranean Diet.....and then was later diagnosed with stage four cancer! My doctors ordered me to use the diet to get well....I did, and eight years later, still in the diet, and Cancer free!!! Awesome food, good fats, proteins, and good carbs....I am totally Sugar free, Dairy free, and Wheat product free.....I am 64, my cancer cured, acid reflux disease cured, high blood pressure cured, and my Rheumatoid arthritis, also cured! Healthier now , than when I was 25! And this diet is greatly responsible!!! Heart, lungs, liver, kidneys Pancreas, blood sugar, all excellent! Real Olive Oil, Grapeseed Oil and Real Coconut Oil are the good fats I take in! I don't worry about cholesterol, as that is a scam! Sugar causes heart disease.....truth is, when the doctor takes you off fat, you deplete the brain which is fat, they put you on Statin drugs, which flushes more fat from the body, and causes Dementia or Alzheimer's Disease! The brain must have fat! The last eight years I have studied nutrition, naturopathic healing, and foraging for healthy wild plants that I make herbal medicines from! And have never felt better! I 100% recommend the Mediterranean Diet..Once you get used to it, you will never want to get off if the diet! You just feel fantastic!!!

    • @jessegentry9699
      @jessegentry9699 6 років тому +23

      Doing a fusion of this sort is and will be good. The KEY is wholesome food. If you read my article above yours you'll find out the failings of the nation. My grandfather had infasema, fleebitis and 2 heart attacks and still lived a long life. My grand mothers both lived long and so did my mom. She had a heart operation at 69 and still lived till 82. My great aunt remarried twice and the last time at 87 and lived till 98. My great grandfather on my mother's side was 92 and was an alcohloic all his life. I believe in a natural life of eating, exercise, rest and good daily habits. If you fuse Japanese and the Med. diet it will be worth your effort and life. I have started it several months ago and remember other Oreintal ways are also good. Good luck.

In the book Black Elk speaks there are four cheifs kneeling and four standing and the youngest is in his mid 80's. They ate natural meats and veggies and a key is the sweat lodge and is where the white people learned a key role to longivity. Cleansing the body from impurities helps keep the body fighting diseases.

      I mean it's pretty obvious which one is a good one, just the beautiful golden color tells you the difference, and if you can taste it the virgin one has a stronger flavor and the right amount of bitterness. I don't know where you live that you have to be concerned about olive oil being fake, here in Spain extra virgin olive oil is everywhere, maybe that is because Spain is the biggest olive oil producer, we produce more than half of the total amount, and sadly, many times is sold as Italian olive oil, because they buy it and resale if it was they's, so be careful with Italian olive oil😠

      Anita Fumeta just a quick note , you usually can’t “judge” the quality of an olive oil by its color. That’s why when the specialists try it to see if something is wrong , they drink it in blue cups , that way they can’t really see the color because it can change their judgment but it has nothing to do with quality .

    • @adm6785
      @adm6785 4 роки тому +10

      Hi Concrete Rose, you can usually tell a good olive oil by the "burn" you get at the back of your throat when you first taste it. Good olive oil will always come in either dark glass or tin container...never clear glass. Good olive oils will give you the date processed. If it only has an expiration date, I'd stay clear. If you can, order a sampler of good olive oils on Amazon. After awhile, you'll get good at smelling a good oil. Hope this helps. ;-)

    I guess you’ll get into the details in other videos, but I’m just wondering listening to this when you say that they eat meat such as chicken in smaller proportions, I would also want to know how often because I got the impression from the work of Simon pool who is an Englishman, who apparently studied the Rio a Mediterranean diet as well, and he made it sound like something like chicken would be eaten only once a week. Fish, maybe twice a week, eggs only a few times a week, so this means many meals would be vegetarian.

    I don’t know what you’re talking about in Italy because I spent three weeks there and did a lot of walking around by myself during dinner time just enjoying the ambience and looking in restaurants. I did not see people eating vegetables much at all. In fact, if there is anything they left on the plate, it was the vegetable. Maybe they eat differently at home. Sometimes the spaghetti was part of a bigger meal. Sometimes I saw a big plate of pasta. I was having some problems with the blood sugar them, so I was not eating a lot of the starch, and I’m telling you, it was hard to find other stuff on the menu. I thought they were going to be all kinds of vegetable dishes, and there weren’t. I prefer not to eat a lot of beef or pork, but I will eat chicken, and yet the chicken choices on the menu were the least interesting. They were very plain. I thought they might be seasoned differently and deliciously, but they were just OK. I haven’t been to Greece, but I suspect that similarly, the restaurant food actually displays a very narrow view of what the cuisine is actually like.

    Diet is clearly a big part of health. However there are a lot of other things to consider as to why SOME peoples living around the Med show great health: there is a strong social/family culture; mostly, people walked everywhere and worked physically until old age; they lived in the fresh air and sunshine; if they had stress it was positive...and so on. Incidentally, many Blue Zone healthy populations lived on islands. Mmm...

      Hi Tim, Yes, absolutely. There is no doubt that there are many pieces to the Mediterranean lifestyle. Even though I mostly talk about diet here I 100% agree that it is the whole lifestyle. There are studies done in the U.S. that show how beneficial just the diet is, but it is only part of the story.

    It’s just that 45 years old seems very young can this be correct that we are basing the longevity effects of the Mediterranean diet based on a life expectancy of 45 years old? 1958-64: Ancel Keys, the U.S. physiologist and his observations lead to the 7 countries study. He found that the typical dietary pattern of Crete in the 50’s and 60’s was associated with good health and the lowest rates of heart disease by far even though they consumed high amounts of fat, mainly in the form of olive oil. In 1961 the life expectancy of a Greek at the age of 45 was higher than any other country according to data from the Word Health Organization.

      It is important that you eat what works for you. You don't have to eat high fat, you can have small amounts of olive oil. Cooked vegetables and fruit are fine as well. You can also get many of the benefits for your gut microbiome by eating a wide variety of cooked vegetables instead of eating fermented foods. Many areas of the Mediterranean don't drink alcohol as well. You don't need to follow the Mediterranean Diet exactly, do what is best for your body.

My aunt was told she might think of going to a nurseing home last year and she said she'd rather live at her home in a healthier environment and eat much better food.
