I would like to add that for tips #1, you can also use Dragon's Breath (if talented) as it costs 10k mana :) However, I couldn't get a single proc while casting Blink or Prismatic barrier, so I guess that's limited to spell that can inflict damages.

Great tips, well done! I was always wondering whether barrage’s damage is calculated on landing or launching (might have tested but lazy lol), as well as I wasn’t sure if it was a bug that sometime I could move a bit after shimmer - turns out you can use this leeway.

Outside of Tip 1 and 3 the tips are actually applicable to the class as a whole. Once I branch out into Frost/Fire content I'll make another video like this if I can find enough spec-specific tips.

Wow, genuinely surprised by the 6th tip. Been playing with Shimmer for years now and never knew that. Kind of annoying that it isn't noted anywhere. I've never seen it mentioned on any guide websites either such as Icy-Veins/WoWhead.

so, barrage damage is calculated on cast ie. at the end of surge, but fits into the totm window because it has travel time? blizz plz.

Chasing a specific amount of stats isn't really a thing anymore, you should just sim for Top Gear on Raidbots and follow the gearing recommendations as it takes into account the best combination of stats from all of your current gear.
Great tips! When do you take Shimmer and when do you take Ice Floes? I’m used to using Shimmer, would it be a dps loss if I don’t take Ice Floes?
I'm using Shimmer in all scenarios at the moment. I like Ice Floes in theory however it's currently very buggy and has weird interactions with what spells consume it. One example is that when Nether Tempest procs Arcane Echo it consumes your Ice Floes buff which renders Ice Floes useless during your burns. Until it gets bugfixed a bit I'll probably just be using Shimmer.
Ultimately Ice Floes vs Shimmer is playstyle/preference though. Either is fine.

Hey Phosphoros! This video was super helpful. I just started learning arcane mage after watching your previous guide video but I'm confused about the funnel build. Based on what I thought funnel meant I don't see how any of the abilities or talents actually funnel. I think in your previous video you mentioned that ABarrage with Arcing Cleave will do more damage to the main target based on how many secondary targets it hits but when I tested this on dummies I didn't see an increase in damage on any of the hits. Am I missing something?
Hmm after further testing I think I am seeing ABarrage doing more damage on main target in multi-target. I had tested this earlier and wasn't seeing a big difference in damage which prompted my question. I was probably just testing improperly or something... :(
Arcing Cleave causes Barrage to hit more targets, but what unlocks our funnel is the combination of Arcing Cleave + Resonance. Resonance works in ST since our main target provides a 15% buff to Barrage, but with each additional Arcing Cleave target we also gain a 15% buff to the main Barrage.
That's where the funnel comes into play. The more targets we can hit the more damage we do to our main target.

Hey. Great tips these are, thanks. Could i ask quick, what is your opinion on useing Arcane Familiar in M+? It seems not so important to me, but i see so many arcane players are useing it.
it inscreases your mana pool which itself increases the arcane eruption burst, that's why it's so good !
If removing Arcane Familiar the next best option would be Impetus. Unfortunately based on sims this is a DPS loss in AoE so while boring Arcane Familiar is the best use of that talent point.
I'm having a really hard time playing ice floes, mainly since we have literally 3 times more keybinds than before. Any tips for a good keybind for ice floes?

I have a question i have been wondering this week it is better to use our arcane barrage a sec before Arcane Surge fades out or using arcane barrage a sec before our rune fades out so we can have rune + arcane surge damage instead solo arcane surge damage, does it will improve damage ? or not too much
Started thinking about this as well.
This was tested yesterday in sims and it seems to be tied. You can do Barrage before Rune fades inside Surge or Barrage before only Surge fades and have the same overall. The only real important thing here is that you aren't overcapping on mana.

in this week of m+ ive been saving frost nova for the adds that spawn and fixate, do u think its not worth keeping a stack atleast off it?
Definitely worth saving Frost Nova charges for whatever mechanic you need to. The tip is just something to keep in mind if you can spare the charges and are also fishing for extra CC procs.
Just watched your guide. Can you explain why we don't want to spell queue arcane barrage on aoe burns? I tend to spell queue everything and I thought all it does is guarantee no down time between casts
Yep so when you spellqueue Arcane Blast and Arcane Barrage together on the 4th stack of Radiant Spark, both spells will get the damage buff. You should only do this on pure single target (usually with double lust due to haste).
The reason for this has to do with how Radiant Spark and Harmonic Echo buff spells.
Radiant Spark buffs spells when you cast them, but Harmonic Echo only buffs spells when they land on your target.
When you spellqueue Arcane Blast and Arcane Barrage together, both are cast at the same time and thus both benefit from Radiant Spark's bonus damage. However, due to Arcane Blast having no travel time it lands on your target first thus getting buffed by Harmonic Echo. In multitarget scenarios, it is more worth for Arcane Barrage to benefit from Harmonic Echo over Arcane Blast (due to Arcing Cleave + Resonance talents), so we remove the spellqueue outside of pure ST.

quick question? do we benefit from having stacks of clearcasting besides the obvious? As in a damage buff or anything?
At the start of pulls where we cast double Time Warp we want to stack Harmony up to 20 before entering the Arcane Surge burn so having extra clearcastings will get you to 20 faster

Hey was wondering which embellishments do you run
I run both Elemental Lariant and Amice of the Blue. Both come with their own embellishments and both are best in slot. You can also get the food embellishment on a third crafted piece as the food embellishment doesn't count to the embellishment cap.
Is it known that ice flows doesn't work with arcane surge ? Cause I have casted it many times in the middle of the cast to get out of some mechanic and it always stops casting which is so annoying?
Edit: Can you do a vid of heroic Broodmother? Just curious of you stay on boss or go adds group?
I'm not aware of any Ice Floes bug with Arcane Surge specifically, but I know Surge has a bug with Arcane Echo in that Echo procs will consume Ice Floes stacks so if you've been experiencing that at all it a known bug.
For Heroic Broodmother I'm always on the boss group so it's pretty much an ST training dummy PoV with slight movement to dodge fire puddles.

Looking just at the damage numbers can be misleading when evaluating burst since your throughput depends on many factors such as lusting with pots/flask/food/enchants/external buffs like PI etc and tier set is also huge. The variance between a Barrage crit and no crit with Harmony buff is pretty noticeable aswell. The best advice I can give is to make sure you're following the rotation at all times based on target count.

is the idea of having the 75 primary stat gem in a lariat to proc primary stat? i have mine gemmed with intellect crit gem, and 2 mastery crit gems, i seem to only proc crit.
Nope Lariat can only proc off Crit, Haste, Vers, or Mastery. The int gem is just good for the raw DPS gain.
Shimmer or ice floes? I like shimmer but when I’m in my ramp if I have to move it’s timing is all off

Well, Tonight I made the decision to retire the mage. Just cant get the hang of it and tired of being the dead weight in raids and mythics. Demoralizing as hell. Dont really care to play any other classes so Ill be taking a break personally.

Frost is a base ability in DF (should be in your base Mage spellbook), don't need to talent into it
