  • This is just a section of a new film we are shooting all about live in Los Angeles. I wanted to post this because we're getting excellent results with the Vision 3 50D stock and our (new to us) Beaulieu 6008 Super 8 camera. Where stability truly sucks, we're thinking it maybe the cartridges and NOT the camera.

    Beautiful! The name of the song, long since a Bossa Nova standard, is "Wave" by the great António Carlos Jobim.

    The camera is over 40 years old, and the mechanism is old, so the camera will have internal shakes. I have fully repaired one of these and some parts in it have just worn down, you can 3d print some parts but other than that, it's an old camera, also what really affects the shaking is the battery voltage, it's picky about what voltage to use.

      Oh it had just been rebuilt by the last Beaulieu guy in the EU, I forgot his name. I got it straight from service.

    Beautiful!!! Im surprised how good was the 50D for sunsets. I was thinking to use the same for that but I was afraid that will be too dark for 50D, but in your film looks amazing

    Unfortunately Super 8 is always kind of sucky when it comes to stability. It's due to the plastic pressure plate in the cartridge and the lack of pin registration. Also depends on how worn the camera is generally.

    • @CinemaRepository
      @CinemaRepository  Рік тому

      Yep it sure is a shitty format. It’s a shame the whole 100ft daylight spool version never took off.

    • @Devonshireee
      @Devonshireee Рік тому

      @@CinemaRepository Beaulieu did make the 200ft Mickey mouse mags for their 6/7/9008 camera's which seem to be fairly available for a not outrageous price. But nobody seems to sell super 8 films on cores anymore so I wouldn't know how to feet it. But the bottom part of the mag seems to have its own metal pressure plate so stability could be a bunch better.

    • @Devonshireee
      @Devonshireee Рік тому

      @@CinemaRepository Single 8 was better in this regard and a bunch more. Metal pressure plate was part of the camera, not the cartridge. Cartridge could be fully rewound for in camera effects and double exposures, larger area available for the gate so I wonder if pin registration would have been possible in higher end cameras if the format didn't die. Alas that is how things go sometimes.

      @@Devonshireee Exactly my point, the whole thing just died even tho they had the solution to making it better.
