how i have 'so much money' after growing up poor in the south

- A lot of people seem to have an opinion on how much money I spend. Naturally, a lot of people want to know how much money I make and how I've been able to do everything I've at 22 years old. Today I'm breaking it down because I think being transparent about money is important.

that frugal feeling doesn't always leave you even when you're finally out of debt. after being in poverty for so long you just sort of build a habit of holding onto whatever you get, trying not to feel guilty for buying something nice for yourself with the disposable income.
its like a form of PTSD that capitalism created for some people.
That part.
MY GOD, THAT IS SO TRUE
I love this episode. It's pretty much the reality of life after 18 and realizing so much over risks and how we end up learning so much from what we do with our lives.
Ryan, I envy you so much. As a teenager in a tiny little poor town with no job and no money, I dream to be able to do what you do. I have terrible grades, am a year behind in school, and don't do my school work. My best friend and I plan to move to Washington when we're 18, but we have nothing. No help, neither of us want to go to college, and honestly I don't even want to just go to Washington. I want to go to Japan, I want to travel, to see things, to feel comfortable. But I know it's going to take a lot to get there, you have worked so hard and put yourself through so much to be where you are now and I think you are so fucking cool for that. Thank you for showing me that it can happen, that it takes hard work, and that life can be amazing and difficult at the same time.
There are so many ways you can travel and live in other countries on a budget! You just have to search for those opportunities and believe that it will happen for you
im in the same position, ive been wanting to study abroad in japan like ryan for a while now but ive struggled in highschool for a few years causing my gpa to be bad, and neither can i or my family afford it.
just wanted to say that you’re making me and probably many others really inspired by what you’ve gone through and how you’ve dealt with the struggle of not knowing what to do with life and to feel lost. They way you’re expressing yourself that the majority of people would keep to themselves bc they’re scared of sounding stupid really is comforting. I’ve been following you for months now and I just wanted to thank you. You have probably had that youtuber you always looked forward to watch and for me and for many others, you are the one we are looking forward to watch and listen to❤
This ep is so inspiring
I want to get out of my country so bad. I wanna live a normal life. Ryan your very motivating. I wish more and more success. I know how hard that situation is.
This was honestly a really good episode and came at the right time for me. I’m basically in the same boat in the sense that my parents don’t have the financial capacity to just give me money to pay for college. I’ve had to work so hard just to get into University- UF in Florida and Flagler college also Rowan Uni in NJ(idk where I’m going yet). and if I’m being honest I don’t even know how I’m going to live a functioning lifestyle when I move because I have literally $0.20 to my name rn. 💀 It’s just nice to know that I’m not the only person who has no fucking idea what they’re doing 😭😭😭 really just realized that taking a FAT leap is a need. Anyways love this podcast DOWNNNN
I took out about $120,000 in student loans over 4 years for Chiropractic College. After 16 years of making monthly payments on my loans, I owed over $200,000. What kind of crap is that to be making payments for all that time and owe a hell of a lot more than you borrowed. Fortunately, I got a job working for City government, and qualified for Public Service Loan Forgiveness after 10+ years
well its a service, they make you pay for getting it.
@@LorettaBangBang well it’s still stupid and higher education should be free for everyone. Tax the rich and pay politicians much less to make this happen.
Chiropractic college?
Yes@@angellover02171 , and sadly I was talked into going to Chiropractic College. My plan was to pursue a degree in Physical Therapy. In Physical Therapy, you're part of the Western Medical System, with the backing/support of medical doctors, facilities in hospitals and medical centers. In Chiropractic, it's all entrepreneurial. You need to come up with a lot of money to startup your own business or try to find a chiropractor that will hire you, which is usually for really low pay and doing tasks they don't like doing. I haven't heard any statistics, but the percentage of chiropractic college graduates that actually make it in the business is probably very low. I would never recommend chiropractic college, due to the huge expense, lack of infrastructure and professional support. Chiropractic College was once a lot less expensive, according to instructors that I had there.
After living in LA it’s refreshing to see someone finding their own way without preying on people. Your character seems well-rounded and sincere. Hold onto that 🙏
So much respect for you Ryan.
I’m Japanese student and ur podcast is great for studying English 😂❤
Wow! I am so impressed with what you are doing with your life. I love the fact that you have suffered living poor basically to now being able to enjoy life. All your hard work has paid off for you. I really love your travel videos. Keep up the amazing life you are living.
Private schools give you a lot of money but they raise the prices every year. One tip for future students you can try writing a hardship letter to your admissions office especially if you’ve already missed scholarship deadlines.
Never judge anyones success...unless it really really really gets to their head.❤ love ya!
Rooting for you Ryan ❤ Thanks for sharing your story with us!

I haven't had time to listen to these podcasts, but now that I do, I'm watching these in a row which is taking like 1,5 hours, but this is just making me notice that I love to listen to you and I don't even get bored. Normally I get bored if I don't do something while listening to podcasts, but this one is different. I can just look at you talk and enjoy this, so thank you! Even if you did like a 2 hour podcast someday, I would watch all of it it normal speed on one sitting, I love your videos! :)
I’m so glad I came upon your channel. Congratulations on advancing. It can be so hard but sharing your story may really push others to do similar adventures. Very happy for you!

ryannn stopp i love your podcasts so much it honestly feels like we're on a call
Hi idk if you ever get to see this but really thank you sm Ryan for sharing this. It calms me down a lot, I'm so afraid of being a failure in my future and not achieving everything I want. You make me believe in my dreams and that you can do whatever you want. If you fight and believe in it. Your podcast is definitely one of my new favorite podcasts. I look forward to your future podcast episodes. Take care, we love you and remember you don't have to share things you're not completely comfortable sharing.
hi ryan!! hearing about the student loans situation is so comforting - im currently paying student loans monthly and its.. tragic to say the least 😭😭😭 & so hard to plan ahead. the way ive been describing it is just like you said, RENT! this is super inspiring, hopefully i too can overcome this soon🤞
Thanks so much for sharing this.
And you must understand that even if your life was difficult, your parents qualifying for a parent plus loan puts you at an advantage. The reality is a lot of poor people have poor parents with bad credit and they won't qualify to get that.
you're so inspiring ✨
That is wonderful you have another source of income! I just finished paying my student loans and it was such a breathe of fresh air. Just pay the loans off. Out of site, out of mind. Keep doing you! All the more success and luck to you ❤
im a senior rn so watching this bringing lots of motivation and inspiration to me thanks so much🙏😭

Debt over one's head is a horrible depressing feeling. If you cannot afford it, don't buy it - debt is horrible.
Loved this video so much, really needed to hear this. I’m just starting my channel again and this is key to know when growing my channel in the future. You’ve become so knowledgeable is amazing ❤
Thank you for sharing your experience:)
i love ur videos and this just inspired me to learn and work harder every day, thank u ryan!
I randomly found you and now I’m obsessed

My new favourite podcast
I really relate to your experience feeling guilty about buying things for yourself
You are so honest ❤
i just want to give you the biggest hug i relate so much and wish i met you in japan when i went
That room is a vibe
I listened first episode for 10times and now I got new episode
Ryan, thank you so much for this episode!! I am 22 and I am experiencing the same thing you had. I am a Ukrainian and for my whole life, I've been convinced that I will build my future life in Kyiv. But, the war outbroke and I had to move to Spain. I mean, it's safe here and very fun, but I rarely get to experience the fun part of it cuz I am broke. I envy other international students in my uni, who party every day and do fun trips around Europe all year round because I have to work and study at the same time to sustain a minimum lifestyle. But I am sure it's gonna get better and I will get through the struggle eventually. Good luck to everyone going thru the same stuff, we'll all be rich and successful one day for sure!!!
I’ve lived in Japan a couple of decades, your videos are great and I am binge watching them now
Ryan ily sm which Ik is so weird coming from smo u don’t even know but I literally love ur videos sm and I feel u with money I’m literally so broke rn and I understand the struggle sm it’s I wish money wasn’t a thing honestly but I inspire to be like u one day
Which also the school part and everything I’m a sophomore rn but I hate school I wanna graduate so badly so I can have a good job that actually works out for me yk but it’s so hard I think it’s the workforce and school that pushes us to hate things ngl bc I hate school sm like I would love to switch schools but like I know I would hate after 4 months 😭
is your podcast on spotify? I REALLY NEED IT FOR CAR TRIPS! (i love your content 🤪🤪)
omg i didn’t know u had a podcast😇😇
Thank you for making such an honest video. I'd love to start something like what you do but I'm not able to in my current situation. I've been saving for like 3 years to get to 10k so it's surprising how much you can make on social media.
Edit: Keep up the good work. I'm happy for you as someone who also comes from a poor family.
damn I feel the pain I'm over here with my husband and our 3 kids and we don't do shit but sit in a house bc we have no money to do anything so I ha e to get creative and do little hosue parties for the kids so they don't get bored
Love your content and podcast so much! I love your honesty. Kind of wish you did not have to continue speaking on this subject. You made it, you worked very hard, and you persevered. That in itself should be enough for people. Not at all shaming, or criticizing, but I wish you could have more of a private life. Xx
Xoxo Ryan. Safe travels love
I’m so surprised how mature and healthy your mindset is now and when you grew up. I was in a very similar situation when I was your age (I can’t believe I turned into one of those old people) but instead of understanding that you can change your situation and better your life, I internalized it and punished myself for the most of my 20s.
Thank you ❤
I LOVE YOU
Happy for u :-)
MY MIND IS BLOWN😭 I never knew tiktok had that much MONEY POTENTIAL so so so wild
You should link this account to the ryan crouse account! I didnt even know this existed yet (he talkes about it but i was confused)
Im a first year college student too just moved to la due to the college refund check and having a lil fast food job in highschool. Been paying rent but oh my gosh that 7k went quickkkk. i tried to save because rent is 1k so being 4 months in not having a job still yet , and rent. I had a job back home and didnt have rent and was in highschool so i bought whatever I wanted and went out a lot whenever i wanted but having no money NOW oh my gosh and not being able to do my Uber eats as muchhh hurts me BECAUSE I KNOW i could have it but i just don’t.
New video! Now I can go to sleep in peace
Would you be able to make a video on traveling/moving around on a tight budget?
Congrats man - wish I had your maturity of money when I was your age. My advise - (A) Keep a 1 year emergency fund. That way if the algorithms go crazy or something you have runway to figure out the next thing. (B) You were very smart to start that retirement fund early. Contribute as much as you can now and let compound interest work for you If the market crashes be sure to buy. Think you can contribute up to $6,500 per year. Make sure it is a Roth IRA. Also - you may want to set up your own company (if you have not done so already) to see if you can open up your own 401 K - Thank you can contribute $22,500 a year to it. Think there is a roth version of that in which you pay the tax now and then it grows tax free and you also pay no taxes when you pull it out. Also - keep investing in the channel - that is where you are making the money.
That is awesome you are able to travel the world - you're living the dream!
Did you cut your shirt sleeves? I forgot what they called those kind of shirts. They sorta have a sleeve and don't have a sleeve out, lol. They let your pits show, like a peek, LOL. Anyway they look cute. From the south here as well, Greenville, South Carolina.
I'm happy for you that you are free of debt. Never go into debt for anything from here on in.
