    Why do you have to cut out the felt circle and appliqué it to water soluble backing? Can’t you just do the whole embroidery process directly on the hooped felt and cut out the finished patch?

    • @ricomatv
      @ricomatv  6 років тому +6

      Hi there, the purpose of the water-soluble backing is to get a clean, thread wrapped edge that can be torn away cleanly after stitching. By doing it all on the felt you won't get that thread wrapped edge and you will also have to cut them out when finished, which will give you a messy felt lining around the entire patch.
      If you mean embroidering the design on the patch first, then cutting it out and appliqué it onto the water-soluble backing to get that thread wrapped edge..then yes you can do it either way :)

    Can you help with the digitizing of the patch? What should I consider when digitizing patch.

    • @ricomatv
      @ricomatv  6 років тому +6

      Hi there,
      A few quick tips:
      1) Always digitize according to the fabric you are working with for the patch. Your software will allow you to change the setting to resemble the closest fabric if it isn't included.
      2) Make sure the die line (running stitch that marks placement) is the first color stop.
      3) When you first place the fabric, follow it with a tack-down stitch to keep the fabric in place.
      4) When embroidering the inside of the patch, choose simple fills like a tatami stitch for the background, or you can use the felt/twill/etc to fill in as the background to use less thread.
      5) Leave a good amount of space between the fabric and the final satin stitch if you choose to sew your patch on later on or use your embroidery machine to sew your patch on.
      6) Create a tack-down stitch before your final satin stitch.
      7) Your satin stitch should be last to close it off and seal the edges.
      8) For a patch effect on garment (sort of like an applique) you can sew the patch right onto the garment as you embroider. To do this, first run the die line directly onto the garment. Then, place the fabric and run the rest of the patch, making sure the satin stitch is the last thing to embroider, as that will lock in the patch to the garment

    What is the purpose of using the felt with the twill? Is it to give it stiffness?

      If you don't already have a finished blank keychain to work with, you can actually make the keychain as an in the hoop project, which essentially means that all the sewing of the fabric in order to actually create the keychain is completed on the embroidery machine. There are many ways to do this, but here is one way: You will need to digitize your key chain design in the shape of your keychain and create a satin stitch as the final stitch. First, hoop tear-away stabilizer with your key chain fabric (whatever fabric you want the keychain to be made of). Then, stitch your outline stitch in the shape of the keychain. Then, stitch the actual design in the keychain. Once it finishes stitching, cut out a piece of fabric about the size of your design and add it to the bottom of the hoop using tape to hold it securely. Then, you will complete the final satin stitch to seal both sides together. Once you're done, just cut it out and apply snaps to create the loop in the keychain. Then, put the ring in through and you're done!

      I have found that my machine doesnt like heavy consistency sprays (like that tempo spray she is using in the video) It was gumming my needle so I switched back to spray n bond basting adhesive and have not had the problem again. I liked the tempo because it comes in a bigger bottle and you get alot more product, however, like I said my machine didnt like it. So I think its just a matter of trying a few different brands to see what works with your machine. I have a brother essence VE2300, brother SE425, and brother PE800 all prefer the spray n bond over the tempo spray. So maybe just try another brand of spray.

    theres literally 7,0000000 videos on how to mass produce embroidery patches, but i cant find ONE video on how to mass produce cloth patches, aka punk patches which are just white ink on black fabric. The only videos i can find are DIY videos showing how to make 1 at a time by silk screening. but i wanna know how they are mass produced or industrially made. If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
