  • So we have the new Assassins Creed Syndicate out on the 23rd and i’ve been challenged to make some of the arm mounted gadgets in the hidden blade and the rope launcher so here we have the first part of making the RL which is a tricky ask as rope launchers or grapple hooks have been made before, but one that fits on your arm and can lift a full grown person thats a challenge.
see part 2 here • Making a Real Assassin...
Assassin’s Creed Syndicate is out on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on 23.10.15 and PC 19.11.15
Try out the XIXTH Century Search Engine for Assassin’s Creed Syndicate here: ubi.li/qc5hd
This video was made with the support of Ubisoft.
Music is by "Heroic" and the song is called "charity for nothing"

thanks for your response I was actually thinking more along the lines of something like this www.apmpetrides.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=695 it's small packs enough torque and would hold your weight but you'd have to retrofit it to shoot the line of it without tangling. Stay safe and awesome mate

For sure that's not practical for common people. But for adventurers, alpinists or fireman's that maybe be. With some improvements engineers can turn this concept into a useful tool.

    • @MsSomeonenew
      @MsSomeonenew 9 років тому +4

+Fernando Fontana Engineers have been at this a million times over, but the conclusion will always be the same: You have no idea how securely the hook has mounted and no idea how secure the material you hooked onto is.
So you either get up there to make sure everything is secure in the first place or you are asking to get killed.

Diggin' your work and craftsmanship. The winching mechanism is going to prove particularly difficult. Making a purely mechanical winch that can lift your weight, no problem. Doing the same for an arm-mounted gizmo, however, is an entirely different story. Storing enough potential energy to lift your weight to a height of roughly 7+ meters will require some seriously reinforced hardware, which itself gets weighty. If you go electrical, then you're going to need a high voltage battery with a serious discharge rate (which is also going to get hot).
Good luck man. If you pull this off, I'll be even more impressed than I already am with your ability.

This really is awesome, Colin! The appropriate line is called Dyneema. There's a similar material called Amsteel, can't remember the difference but not much :s anyway, it can hold your weight with a thin (couple of millimeters) thread and is also extremely light. It can knot easily but if wound correctly, not a problem. It's used for power kiting and Arborist's throw lines so plenty use it to be hoisted into the air regularly.

    Love your videos.
And it's super awesome watching you work, just doing some stuff and explaining it, better than most teachers at my engineering school.
Looks like dumb fun, but when you can do this dumb fun you can also get a job pretty much everywhere, because skilled people are always needed.

Fantastic design so far.Have you considered Dyneema Powerkite lines? Flexifoil sell a 20m set that has a breaking strain of 360kg, and they're between 5 and 10 times thinner than the cord you're currently using

Try out some 550 para cord for this type of project. 550 lb test strength and as flexible as a shoelace. It makes great shoelaces too.

Colin! You really should get into blacksmithing. I know you prefer engineering, but I think people would really enjoy seeing what you can do in the form of your own swords, knives, blades, etc. Might just be a good hobby!

small problem, the launching part and the pulling part are in a different place. this means you have to wrap the rope around the pyramid, put the hook in, and then shoot it. Then, after it pulls you up, you have to unwind the rope, and wrap it around the pyramid again! just wanted to point that out. Its an awesome project though
