Statements about cell theory
- All organisms are composed of one or more cells
- This cell is the basic unit of structure an organisation in organisms.
- All cells come from pre-existing cells
Cell theory
It started in 1600s in Netherlands… Zacharias Janssen is said to be the one who come up with the first compound microscope. Anton van Leeuwenhoek in the early 1600s discovered bacteria but he did not call them bacteria as we know today, he called them animalcules. Robert Hook named the term “cell” when he saw it under a microscope, he reminded him of cell which like in the prison. In the 1800s, Matthias Schleiden discovered all plants have cells and Theodore Schwann discovered all animals have cells they created the first two parts of cell theory. Rudolf Virchow proved that “cells do come from pre-existing cells”.
