I'm currently restoring my 84 944. I was just planning on doing the belts but you know how that ends. Now I'm chasing rust. Where could I find body panels to weld in. I have a hole in the passenger footwear at the base of the wheel well area and that round "jacking point". Any suggestions as the where to locate panels please let me know and please keep up the good work.
Try contacting Elliott Grafton at 944 Barn and he may be able to get you those panels. If he cant cut them out for you, then depending on where you're located it might be worth the road trip to visit him. He has about 40 parts cars so he should have what you need. I don't really, I just start out by separating the bolts by type; either hex head or socket head, etc. Then I only have to remember which type goes where and choose the ones that are the correct length. Simple to do since you can count how many you'll need and if you have that exact amount then that's where they go!

Prices can vary since different people want different things and also vary depending on the condition of the cylinders. That said, I can state the basic price that I charge to do a simple rebuild like this on a good engine. With all new gaskets, seals, a thorough cleaning, and plated parts, you're looking at $3500. Yep, I know the feeling. I wish my daily driver looked as nice. I do plan to swap on some freshly plated parts during my next belt change just to freshen it up. That said, a concourse rebuild is far more extensive than this but it should hopefully look good enough that someone has to look twice at to see that it isn't. Thanks!
What engine mounts do use on your car my dad had bought the 50 dollar hydraulic engine mounts from Lindsey racing and they worked for a few days and now they are not working. His car is the 84 Porsche 944. He's thinking of getting the Lindsey racing ultra mounts, which is our only choice of non hydraulic engine mounts.
Ouch, looks like those are URO mounts. You can usually buy those for about $30-35 from most venders. I just put a set in a car and they're not bad so far but I have put very little miles on it. I usually go with the Meyle mounts which are about $40-45 and haven't had any issues. That said, if this is a street car I would stay away from solid racing mounts. The idea behind the hydraulic mounts are to make the engine feel smoother and quieter inside. Since an inline-four only fires once every 180 degrees it jerks like crazy and will make the car feel like a cheap tractor. I hope that helps!
It depends. If the car is just being roughed up for paint then I use 320, but in this case I needed to remove a flaky clear coat so I went down to 250. That's usually as low as I'll go. Any lower and you start to lose the details and lines in the body. Even when using bondo you want to use 250 so you don't remove too much and end up with warps. Afterwards in both cases I block sand by hand with 400 grit and that will remove the deeper scratches left behind by the 320 or 250. Then its ready for paint! I hope that helps!

All items will need to be cleaned and bead blasted with all old galvanizing removed before they receive them. I don't know if your place requires that too but I figured it was worth mentioning. As for the finish, I send a ton of parts over there and they all come back nice very for the most part. Most of the time when something isn't perfect its on my end where I should have made sure the surface was smoother or it wasn't clean enough. I hope that helps!
I have some experience with 944s (i have a s2 as one of my daily’s) have you ever used those dash repair covers ? My dash is cracked to hell and wonder if the covers are any good ?
I've seen them on a few cars and they're not my favorite thing but not a bad choice if you just want something to cover the cracks... I installed one in my first 924S and grew to dislike it since it warped over time. However the later dash caps are less prone to that, but now if the dash in a car I buy is cracked badly I just replace it with one that has the least amount of cracks and live with it. I hope that helps!

I have a question can you change the end plate gasket of my 84 944 with out dropping the transmission

What did you have done to the valve cover. Is it plated, painted or blasted? What company? Great videos.
It was bead blasted at my local machine shop.
What company does your yellow zinc plating? And is it hexavalent or trivalent?

edredas yeah both on the 944 and 924 there cracked but the 924 I’m going to live with intill a cheap dash comes up for sale. But the 944 is horrid
