Live figure drawing with Procreate
Chicago portrait artist combining knitting and drawing with digital tools. Faith Humphrey Hill (she/her) received a BFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a Masters in Arts Management from Columbia College. For 20 years, she helped artists discover and make art through leadership positions in galleries, museums, and community arts organizations. My work provides an optimistic view of technology’s role in shaping our identity and relationships with each other. The subjects are strangers to me, just as they are to the viewer of the finished work. Being a visual artist, I use my eyes to learn about the person, and in the process find commonalities between us. Knitting (a binary code) is included because of its continuous flow of fibers that mirrors our interconnectedness as people. These pieces are created using new and old machines. Incorporating technology in the process reflects my life with metal implants; as I am a balance between organic and inorganic so is my art. I’m now offering Social Media Management to artists and arts organizations. I’m using my Masters in Arts Administration, and unique blend of experience in the arts to showcase the voices of artists through online platforms. I’m trying to do this rn with my handmade drop spindle, but I don’t have pet brushes, so the yarn isn’t fluffing. Any ideas on what I could use right now?
A regular brush could work too. Even unplying by hand where it’s stubborn. I got a 2nd hand drum carder so I can recycle fiber faster.

hey, the same order of color yarns that appears on img2track is the same one as the machine order?
Hello! Yes it’s the same order however IMG2track shows the colors as monochromatic (various shades of grey) and I use bright colors. So I will assign a color of yarn to each color number on IMG2track

Hey I just watched this - I've used infinite painter for years and always wondered would I like an iPad/ProCreate as it is so well known. Infinite painter gesture controls are REALLY nice, as the other commenter noted. Here are a few goodies: tap with 2 fingers = undo, tap with 3 fingers = redo, tap with 4 fingers = hide UI temporarily while drawing or bring back. Three fingers up/down on screen change brush side, three fingers left/right on screen = opacity changes. Combined with the easy 2 fingers to zoom or rotate, it's so fast and easy to work with. You can tap and hold the toolbar to reposition it - and you can tap/hold specific tools in your tool UI and drag them onto the workspace to leave them there (I keep quick access to line guides, reposition tools, wand/lasso for instance. I am far from the best artist but have made hundreds of webcomics, etc. with it. :) Thanks for the video, listening to this.. makes procreate sound more limited to me some ways. References in IP - you can have a bunch, and easily resize/rotate, move them all over. I tend to have them in upper left and then drag them out to peek, put back, etc.

Thanks! I actually put nail polish on it hahaha. It rubs off after a few months so it’s not doing any kind of permanent damage or anything.
Hello! I have a question about the row counter on your older machine. Did you purchase the row counter after you found the machine? I’m missing mine on a 551 but can’t find the original style counter, yours looks like the newer style counter on the older style mounting bracket?
Yes this counter came with the machine. I have a second machine just like this and use a hand held counter (like the clickers you trigger with your thumb). To help count the rows. Or I’d place stitch markers as I went so I could count up to where I needed to be.
@@DartilyArtStudio thank you for the reply, I may make a bracket so I can mount the newer style counter. I don’t use the 551 a lot but it is very nice for lace work.
The LK150 is a mid-gauge machine so can handle thicker yarns that this model.

Maybe check the color settings of your infinite Painter, they work on multiple color spaces, might be a very good idea to check their awesome manual. Also you van use 3 finger drag up or down to change brush size, left or right to change opacity

Have you done a simple knit and then used latch hook for embellishments? I have my grandma's single bed passap and am hesitant to try latch hook over knit. I will share if and when, but was wondering if it had been done before.
Thanks I’ve done duplicate stitch over plain knitting that’s pretty fun but would get tedious for my artwork. Perfect for extra embellishments. Curious how you do it with a latch hook. Would love to learn more!! Please share.
