Thank you very much for posting this, mine failed yesterday. Had it fixed last night because of your video. I managed to do it without taking the coolant pipe off, and took the alternator off but left it in the area, just moved it about to suit. The hardest part was the alternator bolts and routing the belt again. I was in a panic and would have been scratching my head for ages if it wasn't for you posting this and showing to lever the fan too. Thank you!
I did it!!!, mines slightly different to yours, alternator had 2 bolts and there was a mesh around the fan wich made it difficult but never the less, all changed in about 3 hours lol but happy days thanks again!! 🙂
I replaced just the belt on my 2010 A5 and I managed to do it without taking anything off. It was super difficult and my hands and arms were all cut up when I was done.
Hi mate great video. Could I start the car without the belt briefly? I have a wining noise and just wanted to see if it goes with no belt on. Not sure which pulley it is that’s making the noise. Car is on 172k 2012 b8.5
A actually forget small detail 😅 1.9 have radiator fan on fluid clutch poháněný stejným řemen.... and that's real struggle. (wrench on angle grinder disk make whole work easier)
How do ya know when the belt is gone , I’m here because my engine is rattling loudly from that location when I start the car , but the fan belt was replaced about 18 months ago ?
its gone. It starts rattling first when cold then rattles all the time. I change belt and tensioner every 2-3 years. It has to be a bad design. Check the belt - you will see the wear on one side.
@@Benjamin-kt8jf sorry mate unfortunately not completely i recently had one of the pulleys changed that possibly bowed, that however did reduced it but u can still hear squeaking time to time
Could Be the generator wheel. Mine squeks aswell. And it spunds like its from the generator, which means that i also Think that the tensioner failure might come from the generetaor wheel not spinning straight
Hi R4UL, really really nice video. Keep up the good work. Listen, I have the same car and must put in a new pump for the power steering as mine gave up yesterday. Should I take the alternator out first or is it possible to change the pump without touching the alternator? Thank you in advance, mate! Greetings from Germany
@@TEAMR4ULTV thanks for gettin in touch. Pump is ready. Now i need to change also the 2 pullies. The tensioner you already shown really nice how its done. How about the other one. It is extremely worn and goes heavy already. i appreciate you helpimg a brother

Nice video i needed to replace thermostat on my audi, ended up taking the front off amd alternator and doing aux belt and tensioner into the bundle. Bit of a ballache but i've got big hands hehe.

Tell me about it there is no room what so ever
do u need to take the tensioner pin out?
Great video, really nicely explained, well filmed 👍
Thanks for watching really appreciate it
How did you get a ratchet spanner onto the 13mm tensioner bolt, is it not too big? And was it 13mm or 12mm?
Am pretty sure it was 13mm
You just have to struggle a little bit to get the ratchet spanner on just use a normal spanner instead
man, thanks for this video, i had planned taking bumber off and radiator to get access to it lol, great vid 🙂
I'll be honest taking the bumper and rad is the correct way to do it. But if you can do it this way will save you a lot of work
@@TEAMR4ULTV going to try ur way as its far more simpler than doing it other way lol
@@Sarahs-1369 hope you can do it. Just take your time you'll be fine. If you get stuck just have 5 and make yourself a cuppa you'll be fine

Hi mate thanks for watching really appreciate it. Yes you can start the car up without the belt. But you will have warning lights on.
Thanks. It's hell getting the tensioner bolt out. Using a spanner I'm stripping the bolt.. and there is no space for a socket
I know tell me about it
@@TEAMR4ULTV i got a good steel spanner and i did it!
Tensioner on old 1.9 TDI from 1996 is easy task after i see this video 😅 anyway thanks for nice info 😊

Brilliant mate... I'm doing one tomorrow. Cheers
On the same car and engine is that idler suppose to move or to bounce back and forth?
It is suppose to bounce back and forth but not that much
Great video mate
Hi thanks for this very helpful video
Just wondering if this is a A4 B8 2.0 Tdi?
What size was the serpentine belt?

@@TEAMR4ULTV Hi
Have the same car
Do you remember the size of the belt and part number for the tensioner pulley?
Good morning
I have a question how do you remove the pin

I’m struggling to pull pin out the belt is in the way and no room how did u do it
It is quite hard but possible you just have keep trying. Also put some slack in the tensioner and try
Excellent video mate appreciate effort here, trying to troubleshoot an issue after belt change and tensioner, been squeeking like shit

Im struggeling to get those fkng bolts back in from the alternator? Its really thight how do you get good, also not easy removing the alt
Try getting the top bolt on first. Also knock the alt spacers back like I shown on the vid.
