I'll be starting a UA-cam channel myself soon and have been doing lots of research. Yours is the best channel I've come across for this purpose. Your videos are very intuitive and just the right length with just the right amount of info. Really well done. It's an achievement to be so well differentiated from such a large crowd who all basically say the same thing.

I have been the subject recently of two extended make-over/cosmetics shoots with ring lighting as the primary source with some soft highlighting cast in the background naturally and artificially (It's a studio with a professional touch/feel/look). The shooting was done by a friend, Hollywood makeup artist, and he loves the light ring . . . me too now, as he turned the viewer of his 70D suspended in the middle of the ring so I could vamp before shooting (it's harder than it looks if you're not a professional), and then we would shoot for real. The ring light keep me focused, perfectly lighted, and I could watch myself and get over my being klutzy/anxious. Totally cool setup . . . My friend does all his makeup/costuming close-up work, ~1-4 feet that way, and he does this kind of video often - it's his job. Just blew me away when I saw the raw footage and then the post-processing made it became broadcast quality. Rings are great for close subject work and the videographer, which is usually the same person, but with makeup there's often two people to be close-up with. (Sorry, long post but you asked . . . )
Keep getting tempted as it looks quick and easy but can't decide if the ring catch light effect is for me. You got it pretty toned down in this tho. It doesn't look off putting in this example

Really good video as always. Question: How far back can I stand from the light without losing it's effective range? I make it a point in my videos to be seen from the waist up, which can be between 4 to 6 feet away from the camera. Is this too far for this particular lighting? Thanks and take care.

I taught Spanish in the US Army (former military and police for over 20 years) and now as a "retired" (by accident on the line of duty) and lay preacher I have to go visit and mission to the Hispanic communities inside and outside of USA. I think better then ring light is lightycase.com. I got it for 3 months now and i can said i do not use ring light anymore. I do not need to carry heavy ring on some places to record good video, only i need to do is to have my phone with me. My recommendation.

I'll answer that anyway, NATURAL LIGHT from the biggest light source known to mankind. However, I am still learning to use the light properly & reduce those nasty reflections off my subject, which are cellphones. It's frustrating, haven't come across a single youtube video which shows how to set up lighting for shooting cellphone reviews or shooting objects from close range. May be, you could help me out. I have a canon rebel t5i with a 50mm lens. Which means i have to have the camera quite far away. Would a ringlight be good for that? or should I consider something else.

I am curious if there is a way to make a smaller ring light that is battery operated using lights sold at stores like Hobby Lobby or Michael's? If so how could you make one and find a spot to put the batteries at on the ring light? A ring light I think would be useful if I am taking shots of people moving or running in burst mode instead of using a flash that may only shoot one photo at a time.

I have a LED ring light for my videos and love it so much, yes its versatile for photos and video too. I had a cell phone ring light when i first started (about 1" dia). I mounted it on my tripod with my phone front facing camera to make videos.

I read a lot of reviews about these 'Ring Lights' that they arrive broken or that they'll break within 2 weeks. Plus the fact that they are often shipped very poorly. What's your opinion on this? I'd love to have this light, but I'm not willing to purchase 230 dollars for something that will arrive broken.
Sitting by the window makes one side of your face look too awash with lights. But the ring light is totally awesome. I especially like the softness of the light with minimal shadow on the face.

I recommend Neewar lights. Haven't got it yet, but it isn't half as expansive and it comes with a stand.

get the 24mm f 2.8. It is so much better, because you don't have to be so far away.

I agree. The 24mm creates a similar effect and allows you to be much closer to the camera.

I have an iPhone 8 Plus. How would I plug it in if it don’t have a regular earphone plug? Would I have to get the adapter ?

Nice review, coincidentally again I was actually looking at lighting set ups. Question - do you need to get the light stand if you already have a tripod? Or do you need to attach the light stand with your tripod for it to work?

I have a huge ring light but the motor busted or blew out. Does anyone know if it's fixable, or if I may need to just buy a whole new ringlight?
I have a LED ring light for my videos and love it so much, yes its versatile for photos and video too. I had a cell phone ring light when i first started (about 1" dia). I mounted it on my tripod with my phone front facing camera to make videos.

i do computer classes and i use a whiteboard how do i do in order to avoid reflection ?
i tried with different LED light and regular CFL and it is hard to avoid reflection

I read a lot of reviews about these 'Ring Lights' that they arrive broken or that they'll break within 2 weeks. Plus the fact that they are often shipped very poorly. What's your opinion on this? I'd love to have this light, but I'm not willing to purchase 230 dollars for something that will arrive broken.

Sitting by the window makes one side of your face look too awash with lights. But the ring light is totally awesome. I especially like the softness of the light with minimal shadow on the face.
I have been watching your video about the right light that you previously uploaded to help me understand what is the best right light out there to improve my videos and so far the halo prismatic has all the best feature to offer so im definitely getting it for sure.
