    ⚡ QOTD: What kind of lighting do you currently use? Do you have a budgeting lighting recommendation? LMK! 👇👇👇
    🔴 CORRECTION: At 1:30 I say the Neewer 176 Lights (the new version) are not cheaper than the old version. That is incorrect, at the time of shooting this video the new lights ARE CHEAPER that the older Neewer 160's (and better in my opinion as well).

      I have the 160 and it comes in VERY handy as I shoot at nightclubs which sometimes are not lit very well. I always get compliments on it and people think it's really expensive. It *is* however super bulky and takes up a lot of room in my bag, so I sometimes don't bring it along. So I think I will order the new one and also, of course, the battery packs.
      Other than the bulk the 160 is fine and the same batteries have lasted me forever. I think I might have rechargable batteries in there - haven't had to check in over a year...

    Thanks for the video. I wish you would just do a "THIS IS ME WITH LIGHT A... THIS IS ME WITH LIGHT B... " etc. To me that's way more useful than a 12 minute video talking about things we can't even see.

    The main issue I found with the CN160 light and similar ones is that the original batteries run out very quickly. If you're on a shoot over 20 minutes you have to remember to change batteries or the lighting progressively worsens during filming, which sucks. The plugin versions are better if you aren't mounting directly into the camera

    SOFTBOX FOR 176: Hey Sean, thanks for another great video. I bought the 176 with soft box and charger at your recommendation and I'm very happy with the light. Just a note for your viewers, the softbox is made for the square edges of the 160. The 176 has rounded edges and so the softbox falls off. This can be easily remedied by adding some velcro to the sides which makes for a snug fit. Again, thanks for video and all your support of indie filmmakers.

    Hi Sean - thanks for the information. I shot a night video a few days ago, and these seem perfect for what I'm doing outside in the dark...by myself!! ;-) The outside Christmas shoot was a perfect example of the utility of these lights. And the new ones are indeed less expensive than the older version. I also like that the lights are around the 5000K temperature and come with a diffuser. All the best, Cheers Rick God Bless

  • @RookieStyles
    @RookieStyles 6 років тому

    I compared the two and thought the CN-160 was a tiny bit brighter. Possibly because of the reflective material behind the bulbs? The PT-176 has a black material. Yet I returned the 160 to Amazon and kept the 176. I am going to miss the battery level indicator and AA battery option. But, the LED screen (allowing multiple kits to match intensity), 1/4-20 mount, size, power outlet, and price were deciding factors. Good review.

    Hi there I just commented this in another video but I'll give it a try here. I just started shooting vlogs in my bedroom and they come up with pretty bad lighting. Since I have an old JVC camera I thought this is as good as it gets, But then I shoot some scenes in the garden and they look great, so it's definately a matter of light. My question here is, what should I go for, softbox or light ring? I'm making videos standing about seven feet away from the camera, with a white wall on my back. Any advice will be apreciated. Thanks!

    Hey Sean,
    I'm a new UA-camr trying to look like a professional and my husband and I are revamping the channel. We will be doing a lot of taping in our living room or office where the lighting is never consistent. We're debating purchasing the Neewer Photo Studio 176 LED vs the Neewer Camera Photo/Video 18"Outer 14"Inner 600W 5500K Ring.
    1. We're not beauty bloggers, but I may be doing beauty tutorials every blue moon. It will mostly be for living room and office set ups.
    2. I have a RØDE VideoMic PRO, so how would I use any of these Neewer lights. Could you recommend something else then?
    OH YA... on a budget ;-)
    Thanks in advance for all your help!!!!

    I Also need camera shopping help!! I have a Nikon Coolpix S9900, its good but I can't increase my audio, it doesn't have a headphonejack, Has a flip out screen but the battery dies so fast. I might get a new battery soon, but I rather have a good camera that doesn't have these issues. Any Recommendations please Sean? Thank you!! I am on a budget too :) Is it bad to film youtube videos on lets say an action camera lol?

    Quote "but the newer model (176 LED Ultra Bright) which I have doesn't have the thick frame/bezel of it's predecessor and so there is no way to attach this to it"

    This video is misleading, a race to the bottom. None of these lights approach a black body. Tungsten Halogen bulbs are the closest sources we have to a black body radiator source, all of these low cost LEDs' will have a color cast, there's no way around it.
    Kelvin color temperature values are not valid for LED's, Kelvin measurements are only for Black Body or near black body sources, CRI index also cannot be used for LED illuminates, no color rendering indexes are valid for LED illuminates. The manufacturers are misleading consumers when advertising CRI performance numbers.
    These LED's. possibly all cannot be described at 5600 or any kelvin, because they are not full spectrum you can not use this meansurement.

    I personally don't think that people should all get those HUGE lights that take over a whole room, I mean monkey see monkey do, it's like being a copy cat. Im hopeful that a more simple yet functional way would be ACCEPTABLE such as what you have shown us. Then there are those round ones use for in front if the face which I think would be enough on their own. I've been wanting or rather planning on making a serious UA-cam video for about 4 years and have invested most of my money on the materials it rather collections to show now and still haven't exactly decided on what camera or lighting to use, or can we just use our phones? quick question b/c i've heard different things...
    on camera lights for wedding video (specifically reception or dance floor when it gets dark) yay or nay? Some people seem to love it others think its annoying and tacky. (obviously a pro $1,000 off camera light would be a lot better but not everyone can afford that option at first)

      @ThinkMediaTV  5 років тому

      I've used this exact light for a wedding (older version).
      I'm low key with it and I don't leave it one.
      But you NEED light for those dark receptions. ua-cam.com/video/SJAbUTnd5BQ/v-deo.html (reception is towards the end)

    Great video! I have a Canon EOS M200 which doesn't have a mount on top to attach a light. Are there any lights that can mount on such a camera?? Thanks a lot!

    I would love to see a comparison video for best devices for makeup videos and photos. Which devices perform better showing small details like glitters... but I would like the video to show the difference (no only words).... I’m not sure if you can do something like this... thank you and happy holidays!!! 😉

    What do you think of Viltrox LED lights? They're about $10 more but look like they would give softer light without a diffuser.

    I currently have the Neewer CN-160 and I don't really like it that much. Maybe I just need to use it more and buy the battery as opposed to the double A batteries I am using.

  • @lgp2191
    @lgp2191 2 роки тому

    I like the review but in my mind shouldn't the fact of a having double A. batteries be more reliable I know you get more LEDS in the new light but you also have a number panel and a test switch which is using access power already being taken out of this battery that is already using more power than the original light with Not a Substantial more amount of light considering it's only 16 extra LEDS

    In what situations would I use this LED light vs the Studio Pro soft box kit? That kit comes with 2 lights, is it recommended to get 2 Neewer lights? Thank you.

    Very thorough comparisons. Just when I was thinking that you need to show use in real life to make it make more sense. Still, showing before and after on some of the promoted products sell more than just your words alone. Remember the old saying, "pictures are worth a thousand words."

    dis you try the Neewer® CN-LUX360? Thes are lights which are pretty small, but only cost 8 bucks, if you buy four of them, and you can mount them together to a big light.

    First watch of your content. I have been looking for ages (procrastinating) for some home studio lighting which I could also take out and ordered a pair of these based on your review for fill and back lights. Keeping it brand loyal, in the expectation of color matching I also ordered a Neewer 660. I'm not in the states or I would have used your affiliate links. Big thanks for helping a lighting noob on his way!

    Would you recommend these lights, softbox lights, umberella lights or ring lights? Also what's the difference between them?

    • @JDubb
      @JDubb 6 років тому

      I am a huge fan of ring lights, I have done a few reviews on my channel of them. I have also used softboxes but lately, with my reviews, I use a ring light almost exclusively. However, a light like this would be great for being on the go.

    Neweer needs to update the CN216 as well. More bang for buck than the 160.

    When I went on Amazon to look for the kits you mentioned, I discovered that there is a Neewar 216 light that also works on camera (I think). How does the 216 compare to the 176? Is the 216 newer and brighter? I noticed that the design is almost identical to the 160 just with more bulbs.

    Great tip. Question when purchasing a camera should you go for the bundle or should you buy the accessories individually. Some of those bundles have 2 or 3 lenses, a nice bag, a sd card and a tripod, but I know the tripod isn't the best. Bundle or buy individual accessories?

    Hi, I wanted to know what would be the best way to use this light If I am going to be using it to make beauty/makeup videos? Would it be best mounted to my camera or on a stand? Also, would you recommend the softbox since I'm using it for makeup videos?
