wow! another excellent footage of a gameplay. i really enjoyed every bits of your surface attack. unlike most other game play which centers on about winning the game or clearing the stages. your video has a lot of informations about u boat operations. thank you for sharing! joe @ singapore.
I'd like to watch more videos like this and the other SH5 video. Great narration, great footage, great overall and tactical information. Best SH5 gameplay video I've seen so far. Hope you will continue from time to time.
I am surprised by the number of views and subscribers I've gotten on SH5. I originally created these vids to show my kids over the holidays. I expect I will do more... the trick is to record a good story with visual interest.
Thanks. Yeah, I create these to tell the story visually... basically for my family. Its hard to believe the UA-cam following I'm getting lately. I posted a few other SH5 videos here, and will post more if my Subscriber count increases. Thx again.
No way! Helm! Crash dive the boat! Ahead flank! (5 min) we've passed the thermal layer! Launch countermeasures! Hard to port! Set screws for 2 knots! BONG! Set dive planes for normal dive! BONG! Rig for silent running! BONG! Contact! Bearing 198! BONG! Closing! Helm 125 meter depth...BONG! SPLASH!SPLASH! BONG! Rudder amidships! Ahead flank! Depth 25 meters! Hard to starboard! BOOM!BOOM! Never give up! Never surrender!!!
Back in the 90's I had a great submarine simulator called Aces of the Deep. I spent many hours honing my skills and I remember that would prefer one of the earlier subs due to it's small size and agility. But I eventually got better at being sneaky and graduated myself up to the larger, more capable submarines.
I remember that game, and was terrible at it. I didn’t realize back then you have to put some time into these sims to improve. This game, BTW, was my 2nd SH5 post, but my 1st recorded. As you can see I hadn’t perfected my defense paranoia yet, haha! By the time I made my last one, I had things down to perfection. Check this one out if you have time. Thx for the post. ua-cam.com/video/L2GpfPJqFdU/v-deo.html
love your videos man. Really good job. I wish I could play the game as much sucessfull as you! But by now I prefer to watch your videos instead of playing it myself-- I recently failed with 10 torpedos.. ;)
Although Sonar put an end to the "Happy Times" and of course Radar making it a deadly risk to surface later on, it made the game more exciting, harder too but doable. My brother almost always got away, even later on.
Thx so much. I enjoy them myself haha... because the game tells such an interesting story, which I try to convey in my voice over. Thanks for checking it out
I picked up Silent Hun5 after viewing and enjoying your narrations and instructions. Would you be so kind as to assemble a short how to for new players? Thank you most kindly for your channel- All the Best
Sorry, I can't help you on this one... but Let me recommend Subsim.com for education. Everything I know I learned there, and it took me almost 2 months to figure out how to mod the game to its present state (as described in the video description). If SH5 modding is too much for ya, folks here rave about Cold Waters and SH3, which has all the cool stuff I got right outa the box. Happy hunting.
I've found if after diving as deep and as fast as possible, well before they're on you, turn sharp at a right-angle away from their screws, and shut down the motors, maintaining silence with the stern showing the least amount of surface area, they will often search along your last known heading. As soon as they do that, slowly head deeper and away from them or if you are lucky enough to be in shallow waters, lay on the bottom.
Well done, sir! I usually prefer videos without narration but yours is really good. Sounds like you're reading from a novel while the adventure unfolds before us.
I appreciate that. The trick is to find a battle that tells a good story... and can hold interest. But I'll keep playing haha. Let's see what happens next.
Aw, I wanted to see the final end: whether you were able to escape or suffer catastrophe damage from depth charges. Wish I had descent hardware to run this game.
How did you get the UI down there on the bottom for the deck gun? Never seen that...or I am just an idiot and can't find it. Half the time I have to fire the gun.
If you scroll down my Video Description I believe I posted my full list of mods, in load order. Exactly which one puts up that interface I'm not sure. For more info check out Subsim.com
I've gotten many comments to this effect, like: your commentary voice is incredible, you need to work as a narrator for documentaries, you have such attracting voice, your voice is in the same league as David Attenborough, etc. Haha! No, not interested, I'm a retired programmer, just looking to doing things I've always wanted to do now. But thank you very much.
Is SH5 dumbed down from SH3? Why were destroyers firing deck guns when you had submerged, and why weren't they directly coming at you? And your response was wrong - when your officers first reported contact the right move was to dive deep and move away submerged. If you can get below the thermocline the water is more opaque to their sonar, both active or passive. Going quiet and creeping so that you maintain the smallest profile towards them - ie keep your pointy ends facing them as much as possible - should allow you to creep away. Active sonar works by reflecting soundwaves so the smaller your profile the smaller the reflective surface you are presenting. Later on in the war the surface vessels get much more effective and you'll need to keep a sharp eye out for aircraft - they can be lethal. If you want it to feel more immersive switch to the crew speaking in German - it makes a huge difference - if you don't speak German the text is still in English and you soon learn the basic German phrases. And for SH3 there were a huge number of free mods that you could download from Subsim.com - including music files of wartime German songs. You could also add extra ships, and more realistic campaigns - I'm sure there is the same for SH5.
Hi Malcolm, After getting flak about how easy my first game play looked, in this one I wanted to show just how easy getting into trouble could be! A lot of beginner mistakes to finale.
Apologies - I didn't mean to sound disparaging. I seriously recommend taking a look at the mods recommended on Subsim - from my experience with SH3 they will make the experience a lot more realistic (of course this assumes that you want to make the effort to learn some of the skills necessary - if you don't that is a perfectly valid choice too). I sank a lot of time into SH3 back in the day and loved it.
you are welcome sir .can you some how see nat geo wild and make them watch this video . i imagine u do a documentary about a white lonly fox in the wild
Hahaha, you certainly have imagination and are a wonderful supporter. Thank you. I did try narrating a more sophisticated story, sort of a mysterious thought provoking thing that I actually thought would be more popular that my game videos. Its something I experienced and thought a great deal about. Look up "Taste of the Unexplainable 5 Near Death Experience" here on UA-cam.
Don deCourcelle I guess for super realism they would have to have the Germany navy sailors almanac? I don’t know how this works Cool game! They got the details down
You do like do sink some "Merchant´s Ships" with your 8,8cm Deck gun" in "World war 2"? Than first, try to play the "World War 1 game" - "The shells of Fury". It is an old 3d game, but there, in this game, you can try to learn, how to use an old "8,8cm Deck Gun" and your "Torpedo´s". It is a very interesting old Game with not very good Graphics but you can go, out "on Sea" for one Mission to another, as a "German U-Boot"- "Leutnant" until a "Kaleunt" with the " Pour le Merit´e" as your "Highest destination". At the end of the game, when you have "overlived the WW1", you have to return to your Base at "Helgoland", when you have played all Missions and than "World War1" is over for you. Okay, another Option is, you can set your "U- Boot" on the Beach, in the near of the "Netherlands" and leave it, if you do like to surrender and you have saved the lives of your whole Crew... . LG to you and have much fun, playing any more Games like this! Markus... :-D ;-) :-)...
Thank you Markus, those are interesting tips. I'm fascinated by a game that allows you to beach your sub to surrender, haha wow. Pretty advanced stuff for that era game. I'll have to look it up.
Instead of wasting your time playing games, you should be making documentaries. You would make a fortune, you sound like the american version of Sir David Attenborough
You are obviously well informed about the V7 U-boat. Yes, 88mm deck gun and Flak 38 Kanone, which fired 20mm Caliber. More info: www.uboataces.com/weapon-antiaircraft.shtml#20mmflak38
Steven... at the early part of the war, 1939-40 Merchant ships didn't have guns. Later on, and in the game too, they became increasingly defensive and armed.
You have the perfect voice for narrating these videos
I appreciate that! Thank you very much.
Robot voice. Not real! Fake and u fall for it! COM ON PEOPLE IT IS A COMPUTER
@@gadooooo1 your a computer, ... lol
wow! another excellent footage of a gameplay. i really enjoyed every bits of your surface attack. unlike most other game play which centers on about winning the game or clearing the stages. your video has a lot of informations about u boat operations. thank you for sharing! joe @ singapore.

That's the second video you made I come across . Well done! your voice is suiting this game just right. I could listen to you for hours!
Haha... well thank you, very very much.
Just found this channel and absolutely love your narration of this game. You truly deserve so many more subs. (no pun intended!)
Thanks so much Troma
Fantastic narration voice!
Very much appreciated... thank you
Great Don! I haven’t played this in a while, but you’ve inspired me to get back in the boot!
The best player..like you directed a movie...and all the detailed action we wanted to watch..
Thanks. Yeah, I create these to tell the story visually... basically for my family. Its hard to believe the UA-cam following I'm getting lately. I posted a few other SH5 videos here, and will post more if my Subscriber count increases. Thx again.
Don deCourcelle waiting for more...
Don deCourcelle kindly check my videos...

I think National Geographic have missed a trick,in not hiring you to narrate programmes for them.
You have an incredibly captivating voice.
This guy is the bob ross of submarine warfare. I want to take a nap after watching this.
Do more of these your commentary is awesome
Thank you. Yes, if I can get my Subscriber count up I'll do a bunch more. There are many good stories in this game
Nice. In these games I actually enjoy eluding them submerged. But it does take a watchful eye
love your videos man. Really good job. I wish I could play the game as much sucessfull as you! But by now I prefer to watch your videos instead of playing it myself-- I recently failed with 10 torpedos.. ;)
Very much appreciated... thank you
the gun fight of submarine is my favorite part of SH series.
to play the uboat like the gunboat and shoot the freighter , pretty much fun.
Although Sonar put an end to the "Happy Times" and of course Radar making it a deadly risk to surface later on, it made the game more exciting, harder too but doable. My brother almost always got away, even later on.
I love your voice and the gameplay. Greatings from Germany!
Thx so much. I enjoy them myself haha... because the game tells such an interesting story, which I try to convey in my voice over. Thanks for checking it out

perfect commentary and really good voice!
Thanks so much. Appreciated 😃
Nice video! Bring more like this!
Thanks, I'm planning to do more
Don deCourcelle Thanks!
Again - great video!
Thank you once again, much appreciated
love these movies. so many other silent hunter movies are CHART FILMS those are so dull.
Thank you! Certainly enjoy putting them together. I try to highlight the visuals and drama... as well as the technical stuff.
Great vids!!!
it looks like the crew has the ability of Humanpoweredstabilizer.
ASMR
this is really good.
Thank you! Enjoy making them

Wow
Well done, sir! I usually prefer videos without narration but yours is really good. Sounds like you're reading from a novel while the adventure unfolds before us.
Very much appreciated. I take my time... and thoroughly enjoy it
I love this game, its a shame that there is not another new version made by the devs of this game
this is great! i am still learning, having a hard time hitting the targets whit torpedos,, but i love the game!
I love that you're so quiet you can hear a squirrel fart..er..I mean, a whale. Seriously, I'm liking this game, the more I see it.
Keep them coming don.
I appreciate that. The trick is to find a battle that tells a good story... and can hold interest. But I'll keep playing haha. Let's see what happens next.
great narration. I should have you do my voice overs
Nice one, whould be nice to see some historicaly battles like sinking the Hood.
While you were firing on the deck gun, they had a chance to call for backup.
good job , i was realy into it
Thank you very much! I enjoy making them.
Aw, I wanted to see the final end: whether you were able to escape or suffer catastrophe damage from depth charges. Wish I had descent hardware to run this game.
look like movie good job dude
Thank you. Appreciated!
How did you get the UI down there on the bottom for the deck gun? Never seen that...or I am just an idiot and can't find it. Half the time I have to fire the gun.
If I ever write a book, you're going narrate it. You have no choice.
Wow, you should read audio books. Also, good writing!
Thank you very much. You're one of a very few who realize the real efforts involved.
So when r u gonna make more of these vids?
hello sir, do you know the name of mod which you can control your crew like in 7:34
If you scroll down my Video Description I believe I posted my full list of mods, in load order. Exactly which one puts up that interface I'm not sure. For more info check out Subsim.com
Yes destroyers move and trun really fast and that's annoying to use torpedos
Uboat "in development beta" (b124 Hotfix 2) on GOG.com surpasses this in terms of visuals and immersion.
Best Video
Much appreciated, thank you
Как называется мод, который добавляет разговоры немцев ( Радуются при попадании торпеды и т.д )
Sorry, I don't know the name of that Mod... but I got all my modding information from SubSim.com. Check there, its a fantastic site.
How did the guns work in real life when they had been underwater and the workings of them were wet and poss rusting with the salt sea water?
I guess the breech was water proof. The barrel had a removable cap on it. That's the extent of my knowledge.
have played 3 and 4 and when I take control of deck gun I always aima bit short for impact well below the water line
That is an interesting tip! Thanks
nice video, ever thought about voice acting?
I've gotten many comments to this effect, like: your commentary voice is incredible, you need to work as a narrator for documentaries, you have such attracting voice, your voice is in the same league as David Attenborough, etc. Haha! Malcolm, if you scroll down on my SH5 video descriptions... the loaded SUBSIM.com mods are listed there.
SH5 cannot be found for sale anywhere...
Yeah, I got it on Steam... but it is an old game.
Watching these videos is better than playing the game.
Hahaha, thanks! Appreciated.
I would Love å new sub game with this engine. But with new subs like ssbn typhoo n, seawolf .
Auf einen Deutschen UBoot wurde kein Englisch gesprochen! ;)
Ja, ich bin ein alter blöder Spieler. Still.. very compelling game. :P
CommanderAustria Deutschland über alles
Is it possible to aim at a specific part of the ship? Like the waterline?
If you're aiming manually, you can aim anywhere of course.
.ou have a unique voice you should do documentary videos
Interesting... I actually thought I had a poor speaking voice. Thx for the confidence 😊
you are welcome sir .can you some how see nat geo wild and make them watch this video . i imagine u do a documentary about a white lonly fox in the wild

Can the commands be changed to German?
Yes, there's a audio mod pack with German Language.
I guess they used celestial navigation to get around?
Yes, and you can set options to force those sorts of calculations.
Don deCourcelle I guess for super realism they would have to have the Germany navy sailors almanac? I don’t know how this works

Why don´t you use the gunsight? It´s more easy.
SH3 & 4 had a gunsight. Haven't found one in SH5
Don deCourcelle I saw the gunsight in the vidoes from Taff-in -exile. I don´t know if you use mods or vanilla so maybe it´s a mod, what Taff is using.
Instead of wasting your time playing games, you should be making documentaries. You would make a fortune, you sound like the american version of Sir David Attenborough
Thanks Mark... several others have said similar Lol. Much appreciated.
Don, you born about 70 years too late.
88mm und 30mm Flak Kanone ?
You are obviously well informed about the V7 U-boat. Yes, 88mm deck gun and Flak 38 Kanone, which fired 20mm Caliber. More info: www.uboataces.com/weapon-antiaircraft.shtml#20mmflak38
What mod are you running?
any merchant ships have a deckgun?
Goto Subsim.com - Downloads. There's a "Sober Silent Hunter 5 Mega Mod (New Version)" which has most of what I'm using.
Steven... at the early part of the war, 1939-40 Merchant ships didn't have guns. Later on, and in the game too, they became increasingly defensive and armed.
The exact list of mods I use appears in the video description, toward the bottom.
Then if its a game, why the hell you whispering?
Sorry... that's just the way I speak
Just crash dive FFS!
I think the voice is a FAKE! It is a computer not a real person......
Hahaha.... try ua-cam.com/video/w0_aCT32DKw/v-deo.html
Silent Hunter 4 ist besser 😀
pls learn about history. soviet union and germany invaded poland........
Germany invades Poland Sept 1. Britain declares war a few days later. You're right, Soviet Union did invade Poland, but later
