This is the Steam version with latest Mods from Subsim.com. Tools: PS, MAGIX Vegas Pro, Sound Forge and Samplitude.

Keep an eye on Uboat on Steam... it might be released sometime this years and is the best we can wish for to fill the "silent hunter" gap...

I have no idea what this game is, but the way you play it I'm hooked!
It's a WW2 simulation putting you as the captain of an axis/German uboat objective being to sink the most tonnage. I personally have SH3 and it's very realistic, I remember stalking a small convoy from behind striking the engine room, taking out the propulsion and sunk them all with one strike. But not with the efficiency like this

I couldn't believe how well this turned out... nailing all 4 as per my strategy. That A-B strategy just "came to me" in the middle of the game. So amazed! Was it Luck? Haha... I think its more like inspiration :) Thanks for checking in.

The 1st one I did was just a low tech thing I did to show my family over the holidays. That's gone on to be one of the most watched SH5 videos here on UA-cam. Production quality has improved with eah one... this having the best story telling and audio work. Thanks for your interest.

Hey Thx bbroegger. Every one is a major Project. The SH5 vids took months to figure out and longer to Mod. And this particular one I'm particularly proud... 3 in 5 seconds. nobody else tries this stuff. More recently I've been learning new production techniques, Lavalier Mics, teleprompters and Psychic Remote Viewing. Yeah, sorry its not SH5... but fascinating stuff. This one took 6 wks to make... Thanks Don. I used to run SH3+GWX for some years. I gave it away about 6 years ago. I'm now browsing to see what is now available perhaps in upgrading to SH5. I've also been reading some of the forum posts in Subsim.com Radio Room www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=237938 to get a feel for the current thoughts by users.
Very good cinematic tutorial, very educating. I'm always happy when I see you've posted a new video. I used to play SH3, loved managing the crew. Is there such a thing in SH5? Also I remember the observation and attack aircrafts where a big thing. I'd love to see how you're dealing with them.
Not nearly as much crew management in 5 as in 3... SH4 had the best crew management IMO. SH5 doesn't really have "crew management" it's more of a bethesda style environment where you can go around talking to them, having fake conversations, maybe increasing their morale a little bit so various tasks you ask of them might increase (ie pre-heating torpedos, giving a special meal from the cook, etc) but IMO it was needless and the actual crew size doesn't fit what is on a real Type VII boat. also, only Type VII, no Type II's or Type IX's. few upgrades (as in, pretty much all the standard upgrades for the Type VII that were already in SH3...)
The good news is there's a ton of mods for SH5. to the point where you can turn on realistic position markers, and you can even be forced to plot your own coordinates using a modded in sextant.
the 2 biggest faults with SH5 are the stupid "lack of hardcore" compared to older titles (originally you couldn't turn off the stupid torpedo aiming icon), the DRM that came with it (saves were automatically saved to the Ubisoft cloud... obviously that's a super horrible idea for a game that is meant to be played Single Player only...) and several other smaller but glaring faults. MAny of these were fixed in later patches/mods.
Very clear and direct explanations as you executed them, nice commentary, SH5 several orders of magnitude better than Aces of the Deep (dates me, I know, last one I played much). Excellent presentation, I have subscribed and will be watching future videos. One question, Why not reload and try to sink the other ships in the convoy? No escorts were evident, are planes a mission ender that close to England? Too bad your crew couldn't have been singing "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" as you slipped away.
Haha... I actually sank a few more during that particular session... and for the reasons you mentioned, but for the video it had to maintain viewer interest... and even I got tired of the repetitions after that 4th one. Hahaha. Your idea about singing "Long Way to Tipperary" is fantastic. I might use that in a future vid, though I wonder how non-SUBSIM people would take it. Hehe... good idea

@@dondec yes the game is great fun.. and exciting i only have silent hunter 3 and 4 no 5..those were the days.. i played on my PC. have you tried a manuever when you face a destroyer head on and fire a torpedo on its bow max speed and crash dive after fired? i forgot the manuever. i saw it on a movie years back. and it works actually
Yeah, I saw that movie too. Clark Gable I think. I wasn't sure it was based on fact or just movie drama, but... haha no I haven't tried that. I'm pretty scared of destroyers lol
@@dondec yes it was run deep run silent its a great movie that manuever is the bomb...i forgot how i did it but close enough not to miss.. what i did was fire the deck gun so that destroyers moves on you and you move fast on it. then when you get close enough you fire and crash dive. wait for impact surface the boat and hunt the convoy.. 1 is enough 2 is over kill.. its like a russian roulette or cowboy showdown try it for good measure sure its fun. i tried in silent hunter 3 and 4

Thank you. I'm actually a rather poor speaker. To overcome it, I script the voice over, record it, then painstakingly edit out miss records and retakes and retime it all to music and goings on. Sort of like dove-tailing vocals to video. A rather slow process, but satisfying to someone like me. Thanks again.

I played Silent Hunter 1 and 2 and loved it!!
But the third part was such a bugged disaster that I gave up on it.
And to be frank: very unfortunately I never really figured out how to calculate the torpedo angle correctly. Watched YT videos, did the exact same- torpedo fail. Did it by my own guess: success (mostly at least). Maybe you can explain it once more in a video?
Otherwise: super good videos!
SH3 was fantastic, it was SH5 that was an unplayable bug-fest. SH3 got sorted really snugly in a couple of months after release. I skipped SH4 entirely, so I can't tell you anything about it.

4 was so bugged that I didn’t even manage to get out of the port.
They had given the game to a Rumanian or at least an east european developer if I remember correctly and it was completely unplayable.
Yea I tried modding sh5 but even though I followed the instructions it didn't work. I'm going to sit down next week and figure it out properly. Great video though, really motivates me to get the kids working.
I did my modding almost 3 yrs ago, but from memory... couple things: 1. you have to play the game without mods to the resupply dock because that creates needed files later patched by mods. Save game here. 2. you need the DVD version of SH5 for the mods (I use) to work. Subsim.com has instructions somewhere on how to convert the Steam SH5 to the DVD version. 3. Once you're at resupply dock, mod SH5 then play from there. Sorry I can't be more help. Took me about a month lol.

Hi Juan... I have a few ideas for my next one, but I didn't think of including a search pattern. Let me think about it. I do use them of course and spent sometimes hours finding a target, even while using time acceleration. The idea is not to tell a boring story, haha.

Killer production, I love your animated diagrams. I find it a little strange how in this game you "look at the mini map and see the heading of the ships." Doesn't that break immersion? In real life there was no mini-map with little ship-icons indicating their heading. How did they figure this information out? I wish historical games would stick to realism. Love your videos, you build a strong narrative and suspense, which is something no one else seems to do!

How do you save while on patrol without CTD?
Help me bro, I got this game but idk how you even have orders to get decks awash, like bro all I have is depth under keel, dive, crash dive, periscope depth, and surface. If its a mod i need help to get it and install it .
I just got this game a day ago and every time I try to see the boat in third person view the camera just stays in one place and the boat leaving and I can't go to the other targets and see there damage...can you help me?

Haha not likely, though you have to admit... taking out 3 targets, timed to within 5 seconds of each other... is logisticly skillful and absolutely amazing (and never to be duplicated). Lets hear some credit lol
@@dondec Manually works that too. If you use the Angle on bow finder or an attack disc, you can also measure the distance and get the opponent's course. Find 3 ships out of the convoy and repeat the calculations every 5 minutes and draw the ships into the map. In good position you calculate the time of the torpedoes and shoot them time-delayed or different speeds with the gas torpedoes G1. It is not necessary to hit the ships at the same time a few seconds are enough, they are very clunky in the water. Even more fun you have with the real navigation mod. You do not even see the position of your own submarine. Greets from Germany :) Heil und Sieg und Fette Beute!
Good stuff. I went thru a great deal of frustration just learning how to do what I'm doing right now. Haha, was sort of amazing to see all this Math and Calculations starting to work. SH5 mods are more like groups or packs of mods. Almost all of the ones I use came from www.Subsim.com, in something called Sober's Megamod and a few odds and ends from other mod packs. The complete list of mods that I use, in order (and load order is important) is listed in this video's description text... scroll down. Seems daunting and tooke me a while to get started but as you've already seen... a pretty interesting game to get involved with. Good luck.

Subsim.com has modding tools, mods and directions. Most of what I'm using came from their Sobers Megamod pak. Look at my video description. Scroll down. The list of all mods in order loaded is there. Fascinating game I bought it years ago but this unrealistic pause & time machine leaps just put me down. Otherwise very realistic concept
