When I buy a crossbow, I look at it as a multi year purchase. Meaning if I pay $1000 and I keep it for 10 years that is the equivalent of $100 per year (minus whatever I sell it for in 10 years). This year upgraded my 2014 Tenpoint Turbo XLT2 to a 2024 Tenpoint Titan 400 (Paid $810 from Midway with tax and freight on sale). I highly recommend Tenpoint/Wicked Ridge.
@@towely kinda not really, they are made at the same place but the design is completely different, wicked ridge bows are more like older Hortons and tenpoint crossbows but they have they're own designs.
I have the Killer INSTINK 405 & can honestly say its one hell of a budget crossbow - after taking a 1700# bull moose at 73 yards complete pass thru & a 589# black bear at 41 yards thru the shoulder and still had complete pass thru, of course most of that is broadhead choice, but it has the power, speed & accuracy to get the job done as good as $2,000 dollar crossbows...
I completely agree 👍🇧🇷🇺🇸. I have break barrel air rifle,PCP air rifle and crossbows , those 405 crossbows with long power stroke is crazy good. Killer instinct,Rocky mountain is wonderful, center point, wonderful crossbows.you Really don't need to pay$1.000 for the best hunting crossbows.😄👍🇧🇷
I vote killer instinct diesel x! I bought one and love it! The scope is killer and the thing is a beast and dream to shoot, took a mule deer at 65 yards took a few leaps and was done. Bolt completely inside the buck after going threw the shoulder plate!
The Bear is a great bow. Only problem is the string broke on mine after about 50 shots. Now looking at $90 to $150 to get repaired and it's less than two weeks before the season starts.
I also have the bear i replace the string and cables myself. I use 60x strings and cables. Just have two people, pull the bow back enough to put a big screw driver in one of the cams and you will be able to replace the string no problem.also can do the same with the cables. Just have to stitch the screw driver to the other cam to do each cable.
I have 2 centerpoint crossbows 385 sniper elite paid $300 and 425 Patriot $340 and 1 Barnett sniper 385 $320 all shoot great just the strings on both centerpoint broke 3 days of each other and now it's going to cost $240 for strings and cable's and 2 New cams on the 385 because when the string broke it broke one of the cams I still don't know why I did everything that I was supposed to wax the strings and cable's every 10 shots any tips to keep this from happen again
Replace your strings annually about a month before season starts. These high speed bows wear strings out and better to replace a cheap string than a whole bow!
@@UserFormelyKnownAs_hjkh the bad thing is I just got the centerpoint 385 in August and I probably shot it around the 400 shot mark but the 425 wasn't even a month old I got it on black Friday so I had it about 3 weeks when it broke and I went and bought the Barnett and it's looking like I'm getting ready to have to change the string on it I love shooting them for practice because that's the only way you get better but dang thats expensive but its what I chose I just don't understand if you have to change them every 400 shots or every 2 years I'm not shooting 400 shots in 3 weeks is something off on the crossbows or are the strings that come on them cheap and when you buy the new strings they are better quality
@@AmmiePittman are you keeping your strings and rail waxed well? A dry string will easily fray and go south fast. If you like to practice then get a recurve style crossbow that doesnt shoot as fast. You have to remember these limbs are under 150-200+ lbs of force being released very rapidly. Fast bows are not for practice, they are for hunting. 400 bolts through a string is a lot of wear and tear on that string. If you really insist on practicing with a high powered crossbow then invest in a limb press so you can change strings yourself. Otherwise, i would suggest something in the 300 fps range that isnt going to eat strings and chew up bolts.
Bought killer instinct, shot enough to dial scope in. Took it out shot a deer and the limbs cracked contacted customer service and still no reply and it has been over 2 yrs.
I am a member of a hunting group on Facebook. I was blown away with how many pictures there were of the limbs breaking on them. I will never buy a killer instinct crossbow because of this.
I have the Barnett XP380 with CCD thing is an absolute beast . throw a broad-head on the supplied headhunter bolts and dial in the scope it will take down just about anything from 50yrds out pretty much right out of the box . Throw a better scope on it and maybe some dampeners to quiet it down and even get some vinyl camo stickers to pretty it up and you're still under $500
I have the boss 405 killer instinct and limb cracked under normal use. Idk its pretty common i guess. The next one will be whomever has the best warranty. I loved it though it was comfortable, accurate and came with a decent changing color imulinated scope.
Killer Instinct Boss 405 is pure garbage waste of money, my limbs cracked & string serving won't hold up! I will never buy a killer Instinct crossbow again
I bought the str Barrett whitetail today on Amazon. No promo code.. they charged me double ..I had an excoet with excomag lims.. but sold it... one I've biggest ever mistakes
I hear alot of problems with limbs cracking. It's starting to come out now that factory bolts supplied with the crossbow are probably the reason why (to light). NEVER use 'em. Instead, up your bolt weight to a minimum of 450 grains. Most of my bolts are closer to 500 grains. Don't shoot your new crossbow without the heavier bolts. A killer instinct hypr ke bolt with a 125 gr. Broadhead (or field point) and a lighted nock should get you in the 485-500 grain range. That bolt alone with a 100 grn point will get you 450 grains.
New Killer instinct string wears on rail had to replace the string after just a few shots it was waxed rail looks high near latch on the side it wears. I wouldn't purchase this bow again!!!
I have a Jackyll Barnett crossbow, had it 8 years now. 3-deer 1 coyotee so far, dead accurate and under 270, this crossbow is the only one i would ever buy
I'm looking for the best crossbow with the lowest draw weight that doesn't require a rope cocker or crank. I haven't had any luck in my search. Maybe someone here knows something.
True, I'm a big Bear Archery and Fred Bear fan. I own 5 of their made in the USA bows. I won't own any of their import crossbows and own other brands which are USA made instead. Mission, Ravin, Tenpoint, Wicked Ridge and Barnett.

Centerpoint Wrath 430 and 430X are great budget xbows....can find deals on them now
That bear is not a reverse draw you can clearly see that. Guess they must be confused. Reverse draw has the limbs and cams pointed away from you.
It's the cam system that is reversed
I came to the comments to say exactly this. There is another one in te list that he calls recurve that most certainly isnt.
Exactly lol
I prefer recurve crossbows. You can re string them yourself if need be. Compounds require a special rig to re string.
