Nice video. Get a pneumatic fluid evacuator, draw all the oil out of the pan from the fill tube, then remove the pan; if you want to cut down on the risk of a mess. This also works great for drain/fill flushes. There is probably half of your transmission fluid left in the torque converter. Draw the fluid from the pan and refill three or four separate times after separate drives, and the fluid will be exponentially more fresh.
i never understood why dealerships just blow it out the bottom like it doesnt mess with gears. it doesnt even take that long to change it properly. shits a scam n should be illegal (now that dealerships are regulated lol)
Great video, just an FYI for everyone else the fluid extractor does not work for this application. When you run the extraction hose down the dipstick tube you can only pull out two quarts, I use a transfer pump. I then gently starts to pry the pan away with a large flathead screwdriver then send in the transfer pump hose to suck out the rest. I put in a Dorman pan with a drain plug, it’s about $60 depending on where you get it. I would also recommend picking up extra plug gaskets before installing the pan as it’s easier to bring to your local auto parts store to match up before it’s installed. Best of luck.
Save a lot of the mess by getting a long tube and putting it down the dipstick hole and suck it out with a pump, I got 4-1/2 quarts and it wasn't too bad of a cleanup. Aftermarket pans with drain plugs are under $50. Its well worth it if you plan to flush the transmission or if you plan on doing the job again sooner than the recommended cycle.
For DIYers doing this on their backs on the ground, ITS BEST TO AVOID GASKET MAKER AND USE ANY NON PAPER GASKET! but if you must use gaskey maker, lay the pan gasket thinner by cutting the tip of the tube's cone further down so the hole is smaller.. THERE'S A VERY SHALLOW GROOVE ON THE PAN THAT SHOWS YOU HOW THICK IT SHOULD BE. Then wait 20-30 mins BEFORE putting the pan on, so the gasket makers starts it's process of BEING a gasket, and can withstand minor pan adjustment as it's hard to get it perfectly flush your first push on your back (USING REGULAR NON QUICK SETTING SET GASKET MAKER) Then with your free hand, use a long 1/4" and hand tighten (snug, not with all your might) the first 2 bolts in the middle of the pan bolts, on both sides. Then continue putting them from the middle out.. repeat with torque wrench in same "from middle out" sequence
My only criticism is the thickness of the RTV applied by cutting the cone on the tube too far up.. should've cut it further down so the hole was a little smaller, and did the exact same procedure..

Are you a professional mechanic you always start a bolt by hand you don't force it in with an impact I imagine you do that with spark plugs to then the next person that gets the vehicle the plug is all stripped out
Sweet straw man. I've been doing this for 15 years, I know how to spin the bolt on slightly and how it should feel. If you are not confident in your ability in that skill feel free to do it by hand. Thanks for watching!
Changing the filters on Dodge transmissions is always a nightmare. I have a 65RFE; the 3/4 inch filter seal CANNOT be tapped in as you show. I should have just left it in but that ship's sailed. There is no burr; I went around the hole with 1000 grit sandpaper. Any suggestions? Can the seal only be bought or am I out another whole filter kit? ** Update: Yes seals can be bought but there is a two week delivery wait. I suggest anyone planning on doing a filter change order two or three spares. ** Another update - well, turns out there are multiple filters for the same truck, the one I have will not fit. What a nightmare!
appreciate this video, at what temperature would you consider the transmission at normal operating temperature or "Hot" so that you can dial in the perfect amount of fluid?
Hi thnxs for your videos and they are great but I have a 2003 Peugeot 206 and I wonder it really runs rugh and when it comes to heavy rains it really runs smoothly and i always wondered if it is cylinder head or the clutch or the sensors off but the problem is that the pedals shakes normally when I press the throttle and in heavy rains it really gets really smooth just as good as new could it be of missfire or coilovers? Or injectors? No error codes are seen . Can you plz hep me out with that,
The FIRST mod we did on my 79 Firebird was putting a trans pan with a drain plug in it on the car. Why can't the factory install them? Never made any sense to me.
if i got 100k miles on stock, whatever kinda Ram 6speed tranny fluid, should i just keep it in there and slowly change it out or all at once? ive heard it can slip with new fluid after x thousand miles overdue. Ram Rfe transmissions also arent notoriously reliable 😂 Edit: nvm i read the description LMAO
Hello! I need to change the oil in my transmission. Your video is really helpful but what happen when I overfill the transmission after RTV? Thank you!
i have a 2012 ram 1500 5.7 4x4 i installed the gasket that came with the wix filter replacement kit i torqed it to 7.3 but after 2 weeks its not leaking but i could see a little liquid it looked like just a smug on the gaskets inners so i torqed it to 7.5 it looked like you torqed it to 14?? is that just with the rtv im hopping going from 7.3-7.5 will eliminate the little little looking liquid i could see but im really ocd its not even leaking i just seen wet lol

Extremely helpful since every site kept trying to sell me parts for 8-speed instead of a 6-speed ram.
Oh for sure1 Thanks for watching!
omg thanks for showing the 6 speed process. there's countless videos on both of the 8 speed options, but this is like the only one for the 6 speed lol
Thanks for watching!

14:07 you don't want a whole ton so you squish it into the pan
14:42 looks like a lot but it will squish out lol
That thing has an exhaust leak, you can hear the loud tick. Infamous hemi ticks... change those exhaust manifold bolts.
I'm pretty sure the manifold itself is cracked on this one due to the owner driving it off road at speed. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros oh crap yeah i can see that happening. Thanks for the good vids
Will those filters fit a 2wd

13:28 The new filter is not 100% clean.
It's new out of the pack so. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video very descriptive!! I do have one question I heard people say that there is transmission bands that need to adjusted is that true?
Thanks for watching! Nope you are good!
@@2carpros awesome! Thanks for the info!!
Torque specs incoming!
You got them!

Around 190F is what I'd consider normal. Thanks for watching!

Ewwwww tick tick tick when you started it up. Was it Exhaust Manifold or lifters? Sounds to me like manifold

Can you do a 2jz gte build?
If I can find one for not an obscene amount of money. Thanks for watching!
I did the same thing and added 7 qts and its still below the hot dot
And the trans temp was 52c
Then I'd add more half a quart at a time. Till it is where it needs to be. Thanks for watching!
