    A comparison I would also love to hear about from experienced DJ's, is the OPUS QUAD vs the XDJ-XZ

    1:59 As far as I know, this is incorrect. I've been told that you can not connect CDJs to the OPUS Quad via Pro DJ Link

    • @MusicGearMondays

      "For networking, there’s an ethernet LAN port for connection to Pioneer’s SMART LINK, how Pioneer equipment talks to each other.
      To make use of OPUS’ SMART LINK are 2 RCA inputs for phono sources like turntables, or line-level ones, like CDJs. Not that OPUS needs any with four channels already available to DJs in standalone mode!" - via WeAreCrossfader.com Also talked about here in this video: ua-cam.com/video/QVIxAgAtJJs/v-deo.html by Pioneer

      yes Mitchell, the opus doesn't have the Pro DJ Link but only an ethernet link to connect with the pc. So you can't benefit like the cdj of the advantages like using only one usb flash drive, transferting between the gear the bpm info and so on.

    Are there any Pioneer DJ controllers that will allow two controllers to connect together, while also using the "link" between the two? I'm not a professional DJ, but I wish to experiment around a bit. I already have 4 CDJ's 2000nxs2's, and a DJM 2000 Nexus. Still, I want two controllers that will speak to each other through the "link" feature to play around and experiment with. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    • @MusicGearMondays
      @MusicGearMondays  Рік тому

      That's a good question. I'm not too sure about linking between controllers, only between cdjs and something like the xz. But I'm sure you might be able to bridge them using a computer and a hum more for Midi capabilities. I'm not sure about the audio aspect, though. It would be interesting to see something like that. Sounds like you have a really nice setup, though 2000's that's a pro rig.

    I want the opus , but you say is no good for travel !?? I travel to much , sometimes I have 5 moths without travel … what is you recomendation! Please !

    • @MusicGearMondays
      @MusicGearMondays  8 місяців тому +1

      It's about 5 cubic inches bigger than an XDJ and about 5 pounds heavier, so you definitely have to keep that in mind for air travel. Most airlines' limit for checked bags is 50 lbs, and carry-on bags are usually less than 40 lbs, so once you add a flight case, you may be close to or beyond the limit. The Opus is an excellent all-in-one 4-channel DJ controller, but there are definitely more portable options. If you want to stay in the Alpha theta family, you can check out the Omnis duo, not a four-channel mixer but a similar firmware and setup. There's also the Denon Prime 4 and my fav, the RX3. Hopefully, we will see a new RX series with pro features in the future, but for now, it seems like this is our option in Pioneer gear.

      Do not think so, The Opus was AT's chance to dip their toes in un-familiar waters and try their luck. It's not really a bestseller and the demand for it is quite low even with a 3800$ price tag. (Europe), And in resent days i'm torn about OQ or RX3 as Pioneer (AT) have something new cooking for release early 2025. I think it's going to be a beast with 4 channels including stems in the package as well.

    I have had the Rx3 sins it came out. Shity USB sticks make it freeze and omg the uploading of music from record box is a night mere I still haven't figured that out. I have now paid for my rx3 so it's time to try the Opus now

      Do not use shitty flash-drives, i use Sandisk 16/32/128 and Samsung SSD like T3 and T5 but be careful with T7 and T9, they get hot as F and may fry your USB circuitry. Western Digital have worked well since many many years. I bought a Usb cable lock (Cage) for my Samsungs and never had a connection failure or (Emergency loop issue) after that. I would highly recommend people to buy that ASAP if you are in a pro environment.

      I think Pro link is overrated and often to my knowledge broken when you arrive to a gig. in 8 out of 10 times that has happened.
      So i always bring to matched devices with my music so i do not have to worry. and spare USB-C cables as well as device cages to lock the cable in place

    • @CRLCRRLLTV
      @CRLCRRLLTV 5 місяців тому

      Sure, here's the revised text:
      "Thanks for watching! I believe you can connect the RMX and DJS to the Opus with a Hub through Pro Link (The Cat5). The TR8 would have to be routed through an open line into the Opus. You may be able to sync them all BPM-wise through Ableton Link ua-cam.com/video/hfs7vbJ0Bls/v-deo.html, but that entails using a laptop, which I assume you would want to stay away from with an all-in-one player setup. I used the DJS with my RX3 and just BPM matched using the pitch fader, which is a little more work but still achievable and will keep you on your toes haha. Hopefully that helps. Keep me posted on your setup; sounds like a fun way to jam."

    • @SundTFörnuft
      @SundTFörnuft 2 місяці тому

      Why would you, both SDJ 1000 and RMX are overrated as F, i used mine maybe three or four times at tops on tour, i grew out of it in a bout two weeks. Try to improve your technical skills on the controllers instead. If you look at clubs, events and streamers, not many even use the RMX 1000 and it's there just for show. and to spend almost 1000$, that to me is dumb. If you want a simple thing to use, aim for the RMX 500, TWO buttons and you are rocking without missing the gig and drop the audience attention. RMX 1000 is way way overhyped. And the SDJ sounds really bad, for a pro product.

    Can the Opus Quad use normal Rekordbox USB drives yet? Or do you have to export special ones by checking the "Opus Quad only" option in Rekordbox DJ? Unless this is fixed no one's going to be able to just rock up and play on it. This library incompatibility is a complete dealbreaker for me.

    • @MusicGearMondays

      Rekordbox 6 does this automatically if you agree to it and check the boxes. not a real problem. Do not use Rekordbox 6 or 7 on older gear as it will not work with 2000 players and stone age equipment.

      The OQ is niched to a specific group, i do not know a single renting firm that have bought this gear for rental purposes and i only know of two clubs that put it their booth. a real upper class hotel club and bougie club as well. Not like the local clubs. And it's certainly not meant for touring. To much hassle and headache if something goes wrong. Id rather bring two RX3, one for perfomance and one for backup

  • @SundTFörnuft
    @SundTFörnuft 2 місяці тому

    As a touring dj heres my take on both machines so far
    i have been in this business for over 30 years and have tried most gear under the sun
    And for me i bring my own gear, why?, have you EVER seen a musician lending instruments?
    Never. I know before hand my gear is pristine and sounds the best possible.
    Do you even know how many times i have come to a event, club and the gear is a mess, don't matter if it's the latest 3000 or old as F, 2000s / 1000mk3
    *Price - It's quite substantial in Europe where i reside. about 2000$ more for the OQ
    *As you mentioned, Weight, it's a lot heavier.And you do not want anything else then a coffin for a OQ, believe you me.
    *Right out of the box a lot more problems and issues with OQ than RX3, Scratched or faulty displays, bad connectors, fried Usb ports and difficulties hooking up via Bluetooth. That to me is a red flag as of now, and with the knowledge how Japanese companies operate you don't even wanna know how they think about these issues.
    *OQ is not PRO, as RX3 or ZX, cause this Controller is not meant to be moved or toured with. No performance pads or features like the rest, and if you are like me a technical and physical dj, well the OQ will not suffice, unfortunately.
    *OQ have only two wave forms even with 4 channels at once. The competition has already solved these issues long time ago via Engine 3 update
    *OQ have some issues regarding the zone output that have not yet been resolved. If you lock at Pioneer Djs track-record and their take on Firmware Updates they are slow out of the gate, and there is never more then two, three tops. The competition is on the case all the time and even the oldest gear is kept in the game and customers happy.
    /Prove me wrong!

I, however, do travel a lot and play a lot of private and corporate functions on portable setups, and I know there are plenty of other DJs that do the same "Or companies would not have designed DJ controllers" " So yeah, saving money on weight is a big deal especially when it comes to logistics and touring. So I understand where you are coming from but don't knock the information because it's vital to other types of DJs. Cheers.

      I understand your point that being good at DJing does not solely depend on technology. However, I made the video to help those who use DJ controllers find a balance in their performance. My opinion on the Opus Quad was simply about the DJ controller and its benefits for people interested in Opus or Rx3 for traveling. I noticed that you used an XZ controller in one of your videos, which made me think that you might have received help or guidance from other sources to form your opinion on it. The channel is dedicated to helping musicians and DJs find suitable gear and software to enhance their creativity. It is not a platform for talent shows or competitions like American Idol. As more and more DJs join the community, it is crucial to be welcoming to newcomers and encourage them to learn about the culture and community. I suggest checking out the latest video I posted, and by the way, Happy DJ Day! Cheers.@@BigBoyRandom

      With todays portable "control rooms" you want screens, you will not survive with ears only. Trust me, i have tried. I mix between sources like Spotify, Tidle and my usual gear. and most djs will find that difficult. I give you a small tip, buy a controller with broken screen and try to get through a nigh at a packed club, i has happened to me, a XDJ XZ that got liquid on it and fried the screen but the rest worked.
