Shawn & Mel - This is easily considered one of the top 10 songs of all time along with "Bohemian Rhapsody" & "Stairway To Heaven" Do yourselves a favor & watch together the 1977 Live version. The double guitar solo between Don Felder & Joe Walsh (one of my favorite guys in Rock) I barely have words for. Please do take the time for this one together. You've hit one of the biggest songs of your journey.
Joe Walsh and don felder are musical geniuses! It took me foreverrrrr to learn hotel California on guitar, still don’t have the solo completely down yet lol
@Jennifer Hurburt, well said and totally agree. It's one of those all-time iconic songs that stands the test of time that's always on that short list with Stairway, Freebird, Bohemian, etc.....
It was written by Don Henley (drums), Glenn Frey (acoustic guitar) and Don Felder (double guitar). Henley and Frey met when they were in Linda Ronstadt's back up band in 1971.
Don Henley you list first when Don Felder should be first. Felder wrote the music pre Eagles, it was on his demo tape to become a member. While with the eagles Walsh and Felder were tweaking it one day and Henley got in on writing lyrics, not sure if Frye was in on that part or not. Oh and Frey was on 12string acoustic on this one, just a technical thing being I play and sorta particular kind of guy.
@@2olvets443 In the original pressing of the album in '76 the credits are listed as Felder first, then Frye and then Henley. Henley wrote most of the lyrics, while Felder wrote all of the music, to include drums and bass. In total there were 8 guitar parts and for this performance we have 5 total (counting Felder's double-neck as 1 unit). So henceforth, being there are this many onstage, this is closest to the actual recording.
The Eagles began in early 1971, when Linda Ronstadt and her then-manager John Boylan recruited local musicians Glenn Frey and Don Henley for her band. ... The four were signed in September 1971 to Asylum Records, the new label started by David Geffen, who was introduced to Frey by Jackson Browne.

ABSOLUTELY, and he was also at Kent State when I was a student there and he was in originally in a local band on campus called THE MEASLES, then in the JAMES GANG. We used to walk to downtown Kent's bars frequented by all of us Kent State students, to hear the James Gang play. Jimmy Fox was their drummer and sometimes I would walk to class with him on certain days. We lived in the same off campus apartments for students who were in their senior year. This is such an outstanding song, thank you for reacting to it. Eagles ROCK it the hard way. The guy in the brick suit is Joe Walsh, one of the highest rated guitar players of all time. Everyone in this band is a rock legend. Unfortunately most Eagles songs are blocked but every now and again, there will be a song or two that is able to come through.

This band, they all sang… whenever they did Henley’s songs, he wanted to drum for his own songs cause he was very particular to the drum sounds and pockets for his songs
They have so many amazing songs that it is difficult to pick a favourite. However, I'm pluming for 'Love will keep us alive' - co-written by Paul Carrack [another brilliant singer and songwriter who also recorded the song (and is from Yorkshire so have to love him!)] but the harmonies on The Eagles version of the song always gives me goosebumps without fail! The lyrics are beautiful too.
Yes check out the 1977 live version. Don Felder (double guitar) Don Felder (double guitar) did the music. Don Henley (,drummer) and Glenn Frey (front and center) wrote the lyrics.
