Love your closing “gymnastic thought” along with your analysis comparing the 28mm to a zoom and the 43mm to a prime. It helped me get clear on my thoughts about these two exceptional cameras. Very interesting and thoughtful video. Thank you!
Glad to see you’re well. My son was also hit with a stomach bug this past week. When I used the Q3, I find myself cropping in a lot. Q3 43 has been just right for me.
I have both the Q3 and Q3 43 and love both. However, if I could only carry one, it would be the Q3 with the 28. When I bought the Q3 I spent a year shooting only with this camera. The restriction pushed to compose everything differently, with results that I loved. When you need more compression and reach, the 43 is a dream. During my recent two week trip in Europe, I carried both cameras in the Oberwerth M bag (I love this bag). Looking back at my images, I used the 28 a bit more (60/40) and LOVE the images from both. I am keeping both.
@@gerthilbrands I personally need either the thumb grip or the hand grip. Without the camera is for me to slippery to hold. Sure you can have the handstrap attached to be sure not to drop the camera, but I don’t attach my hand strap at home when I take pictures of my family :) Thank your for our time watching!
You make a very good point about cropping in on a 28, and I am sure many photographers do this. The one thing they are missing out on is by doing this, is they are losing out on depth. Which is a powerful technique to build layers in a scene. I love the compression of 43mm but i expansion of 28mm is a sweet spot in the street. So get closer to the subject with a 28mm. i am happy that you think deeply about your photography and that have recovered from the Flu. Have a great weekend!
I totally agree, these close shots on a true 28mm (minimal crop) are very powerful, I'm just to shy to take these kinds of shots ^^'' Thank you for your kind words and your time watching!
Glad you are feeling better and back on the case. Yes, the community can be quite opinionated about these two focal lengths. Having shot the 28 for about a year and now transitioning to the 43, I do think 43 is a more versatile and useful focal length for most people in most instances. Slippery of you to throw in that brain teaser at the end about the dilemma of the lower-megapixel Q1 and the same question.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts :) I agree, since 43 or tighter focal length in general are more beginner friendly in my opinion. I find it quite challenging to take a good image on a 28mm focal length without cropping. Thank you as always for your time watching and commenting! :)
Great comparison! I just watched a video about the 28 being better than the 43 by giving the user a wider focal length and more options to crop. But they don't address that the compression doesn't change with a crop so you're still stuck with the "look" of a 28 mm. For myself a 43 focal length challenges me to improve my photography skills within the limitations of the frame. I feel like with a 28 it's more of a run and gun type of point and shoot camera and too much of an inconvenience in my workflow if I have to rely on cropping in post to get the image I want. For now I'm sticking with the Q3 43 and a Ricoh GR3 if I want the wider frame.
That's a great setup! I was thinking about getting a Ricoh GR, but I'm somehow still hoping for a GR4 release soon :D Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts and your time commenting!
@ when I checked used GR3 a couple of months ago they were still quite expensive around 700-800€ for heavy used cameras. Guess it was because Ricoh was to keeping up with the demand and nothing was in stock (at least in Germany). Might be different now, but right now, I can wait for one more year for the GR4 😀
The fact that the lens is fixed and you have to permanently live with your choice makes the 43mm too restricted for true versatility for me. As a 2nd camera it would be great but 28mm means I can live with a single camera.
Totally valid point and I have the impression a lot of people have these kinds of cameras (Leica Q or Fuji X100) as an additional camera. Thank you for watching!
I‘m curious if at some point you’ll add the 43 to your collection :) Btw did you take that one short down because of so many negative responses/dislikes? Wanted to thank and appreciate you regarding thinking of me for the shirt 😊
@ I think I’m going to hold out and see if they bring a reporter or monochrom version, but I must admit I keep looking at it, haha. Yeah I took the short down because the hate it was getting was unreal and with not many views. You’d think giveaway away a $1600 camera would bring some good views and conversation but not so much. I’m not sure if I’m going to now. I’ll definitely be sending you a shit once they’re ready. Thanks for the support!
@ Damn some how unfortunately that short attracted the wrong people so quickly … I guess that Dlux is better in the hands of one of your family members or friends to give away instead of the internet 😅 Thanks again and curious about your next video 😊
Nice review thank you. I have been shooting with both Q3's for a week now and I look at them both as primes and would only do minimal crops for composition on each typically. But I'm sure there will be times when I will crop-zoom on both as I plan to only carry these two for 90% of my travels and shoots. Enjoy the kiddos! They grow up way too fast! Let's see some of your pics next time.
@@paulboskerphotography that’s so true about the kids and I have fun documenting them and spending as much time as possible :) Nice to hear you are shooting both as primes, that’s an awesome setup to travel with. Thank your for your time watching and your kind words. I have some upcoming POV videos in the pipeline for more pics next time :)
Because i cant bring myself to drop 5k on a leica i ended up getting the 28mm conversion kit for my Fuji x100vi and a 40mm lens for my Nikon Z8 and i must say both focal lengths are really fun. I think if i id get a leica q i'd find it hard to choose. Whne i dont have the 28 on my fuji.. 35 never feels wide enough now oddly.. and the ability to crop makes it not so much of pain. The 40 is great.. nice seperation on photos.. you can snipe people a little more as well.. depends what kinda phtograpgher you are what you shouold get,
I was thinking about the Z8 a lot lately because of the current Winter Sales, but I have to resist that thought ... was stupid enough to drop that cash on the Q3 43 ... enough is enough :D But you have a really nice setup mate :) Thanks as always for watching! Much appreciated!
Interesting how many Q users now opt for 43mm. I would have supposed that someone dropping 5k on a setup, already would know what focal length he or she prefers 😅
I'll be honest, I fell into that hype train which social media caused around the Leica Q2 and X100V although I was always more of a 50mm shooter. But what can I say, you watch videos, products get hyped and your curiosity gets sparked, if you could make a 28mm or 35mm work for you. That's at least how I ended up dropping that cash :D Luckily the hype continued and I barely lost money after selling them again. Thanks for watching!
You do a very good comparison Between the 28(25) and 43. I do not own either Q However The human FOV for two eyes is near 60 degrees. A lens with focal length of 35mm fits that FOV. Just a fact Thank you for your video
I agree. The 43 is the sweet spot between 35 and 50. Additionally it is our natural perspective so what I capture as an image is what I saw at the moment. I prefer this way. Thanks.
Are you sure that you've got a total recovery from your stomach flu? I'll share a little test of mine that I run to make it sure: Try to not retain the next gas. Just let it go. Blind trust. If you feel like a little flow of warm liquid matter coming out.... Well, you are not fully recovered. Best wishes!!

Are you saying, you also pulled the trigger? :)
I saw your community post this morning I think - how do you like so far?
@ yea, pulled the trigger the day after release 😂 I love it actually, fills in the gap on some of the shortcomings on my M10-R
@ haha then you basically are owning it as long like I do 😀
