To avoid having to change your wheel rotation every time, I have found it's best to turn off "range set by vehicle" and match the "default max wheel angle" and "steering wheel range" to what you have in your software. Works fine in every car for me 👍
You have to have the driver set the same. But range set by vehicle works for me every time. I have 900 in driver, 900 in rf2 and range set by vehicle and it always matches the setup
@@benjimc1Yes I got the same and it works fine every time, maybe on some specific weelbase it dosen't work but I had t300 and now Simucube and everything was and is fine. I only need to check ffb in game if I change livery/vehicle
I can confirm that. Set both max wheel angle to max in RF2 and in your wheel driver, and settings in rF2 are "Software" for Rotation limit mode, "Custom" for max wheel angle mode, and "On" for Range set by vehicle. Works just perfect.
I don’t understand, I never had to change the wheel angle for each specific car in this game that I’ve played for many years. Now that I see this video and jump into rF2, now each car steering angle of off now all

Always loved the feel of rF2 but hated the UI and all of the 'fine detail' you had to set correctly for things to work the way they should. Solid info in the videom, thanks Dave.
Just a suggestion, in "player.JSON" put "Texture Sharpening":4 to have better texture definition. Work great for me! And there you can set "Max Framerate": to limit FPS as you desire.

Hello Dave, I've noticed you've set 900 to your steering range in-game, but 1440 in the driver software. To have a 1:1 movement, the range in-game HAS to match the steering software's range. Hope it helps
Thanks Dave. Some of the setting you mentioned (not all), I found myself by tinkering. The one thing i just could not get right was the wheel rotation. I will try your method as well as the others in comments 😊

Wow. I've been playing rfactor2 for over 3 years and I never knew that yellow car fix. Brilliant! Glad you're enjoying the sim so much and I've been loving your recent Rfactor2 content :)
The problem with this button is, that in the moment you press it and your rf2 loads the 3d data of the vehicles, you normally get a massive lag, and you maybe warp into an other driver, so please stop by when you press this button on track
Thanks DaveCam’ I’ll give these settings a go. I uninstalled RF2 sometime ago because I couldn’t figure out these quirks.
holly cow, now I see how effortless it was in my case - especially with FFB setting, rotation. It worked right away, I was lucky I guess. rF2 is still sometimes the pain in the middle earth but once you get it right, you get the best.

Thanks for the video Dave. Followed the steps and now the game is performing much better. I really like the Radicals. They're not up to the quality of the SR8's in IRacing, which was/is my favorite car in the sim. but I think they're a more fun then the SR10's in IRacing, which I can't stand to drive because of how bad they understeer. So RF2 might be where I get Radical fix moving forward. :)

I posted a couple of remarks to solve your pain in the Asetek gamesettings Discord Dave.
The automatic wheel rotation match does work in RF2.
-rotation limit mode > software
-max wheel angle mode> custom
-default max wheel angle> 900°
-range set by vehicle> on
The general FFB figure should be set to let's say 60%.
That way you never break your thumbs, or have a clipping signal, and you can dial up or down on car specific FFB.
Those are the exact same settings Dave is using (rottion) and it doesn't always work. Doesn't work for me too. Device driver mode works every time as long as you allow it on the device control panel. its also way better mode because this way you get the same soft stop at the end of range as if you changed in control panel, instead of a wheel that keeps rotating

I never changed the settings and for me it just works, bump stops included, on the exact same wheelbase as Dave has.
When I want a custom lock range I just turn range set by vehicle to off.

I did get weird ffb without loading the Asetek RF2 plugin btw, you need to install that on a Asetek wheelbase.

I think in the game settings if you have your wheel rotation set to auto per car and the wheel rotation in the car doesn't match your wheel then try reloading the controller profile.
I have realised that rfactor2 has a lot of FFB/steering settings that are not available through the UI. If you load one of the profiles it changes the hidden settings. Your current hidden settings will be saved in rFactor2\UserData\player\Controller.json
I also have Asetek and I have loaded the Simucube Pro profile because I thought that wheelbase will behave similarly to the Asetek one.
You don't need to change your res and enable multiview after each start. It is just visual bug.
I don't know why the steering settings shown @4:35 don't work for Dave (maybe Asetek being weird), but on my G29 these exact settings work perfectly. Mind you, initially I had an issue with the calibration. Due to the stupid deadzone in the middle all G29s have, my manual calibration was out by 2 degrees, so the rotation never matched any cars with less than 900 degrees of rotation. The solution is to go to rFactor2\UserData\player in your Steam folder and edit the Controller JSON file. Scroll to Steering Wheel Maximum Rotation Default and set it to 900 for G29 or more if you have a different base. I also set the Steering Wheel Maximum Rotation from Driver to "false" since I never change the rotation in the software. That locks the rotation to 900 degrees regardless of what the Logitech driver decides to do. That in fact might be the reason Dave was having issues with the rotation. Either that or the fact the Asetek software shows a rotation of 1440 degrees @7:32 but the in-game setting is at 900. Follow all of the steps above and, at least in the case of the G29 (presumably also G920 and G923), all will work perfectly.
I am having an issue with my Asetek La Prima wheelbase. Upon entering my first official online multiplayer race (the BMW M2 Series) I clicked the "DRIVE" button which launched me into my car's cockpit within my garage but when I accelerated out and barely moved my wheel, it went nuts!

Is it possible to run the sim with different monitors and set it up correctly? I'm really thinking about buying an 49" oled (because it's oled) and try to add 2 ips 27" monitors for the additional immersion.

What I need to know is what setting do I change to add weight to the steering wheel. Driving that BMW M2 the steering is just way too light.
Dave, thanks for sharing the current state of the sim. I’ve spent countless hours on rf2. Would you be so kind to spare me another batch of em, by answering one question: Did they fix the setup exploits all competitive drivers had to use?
Dave, I have found that limmiting my wheel range in my wheels software, results in weaker/less informative ffb when in game. I set my wheel rotation to hardware, the range by vehicle then works fine. Rfactor need to sort this problem.
Great video Dave. R Factor 2 has vastly improved since the multiplayer update. I have a question though. After setting up race labs overlays when the game is running I have to close the overlays before I can use the in game functions/buttons.. is there a setting I need to change?

No you can click through them although in the settings for each overlay I always select hide in garage so I can see the UI better 👍

I think you have the steering wheel rotation issue because the wheelbase is set to have 1440 degrees and 900 in the RF2 settings, if you set the Base to 900 degrees it should work, i have it like this and it works perfect

Steering settings. Rotation limit mode, software. Max wheel angle mode, custom. Default Max wheel angle to 900°. Range set by vehicle, on. Now you're steering wheel will be set one to one with rfactor in any car you drive.

are there any overlays that work in VR, so that I can get rid of the crappy rFactors own display box?
I'm more inclined to build up my rFactor 2 content than renew my iRacing subscription. It's relatively cheaper for the purpose of which I would be using it. I wonder if the Formula E pack is worth a go?
Dave I have tried to play RFactor2 but simple can’t. I have force feedback but is imposible to set, i don’t feel when lose the rear tires…

There are some cars in factor 2 that when we make the turn, even if the turn is slow, the car loses its rear end very easily, is there a way to fix this?
My wheel isn't being detected by the game cause my pedals when trying to assign then won't do anything same with turning my wheel left and right what do i do?

Is there an option to map a "return to pits" button? I race in VR and want to use a keyboard as little as possible but I haven't found the option to map a button that does the same thing as the Escape key when you're out on track
You can map an "alternative escape button"

This game is so much fun, that doing all of these workarounds and configurations is well worth taking the time. This game's UI is still very clunky imo. I've played it before the updated UI, and while it is much better, it still needs some work. I wish the devs would make a really good wizrard to take the player through some of this stuff. It would get people out on track and racing a lot quicker.

Just out of curiosity. Why wouldn’t you want to use nvidia surround for triples?
The main reason is I capture my gameplay on a streaming pc. Can't do that with surround. Well you can, but it would mean having OBS open on my gaming rig and sending the preview to the capture card. The second reason is doing anything else with surround (not racing) is a pain. 👍

Why is the refresh rate of the monitors set to 0hz....Vs 120/144/165 whatever your monitor is?

Surround works fine with me. Also the wheel calibration also works well, matches. What irks me about rf2 is the mirrors won’t align with the side of the car, wtf is up with that!? I love the tires the physics but everything else is a pita. I use iracing for leagues (no officials for me) but you just can’t race the cars. What I mean is, racing usually means you’re up on the wheel and hustling the car. You get the iracing cars to their max and you get their lazy death ☠️ spin without really hustling the car. In the real deal or in rf2, you can correct this with steering inputs and throttle. IRacing is simple, user friendly, the opposite with rf2 but closer to the real deal. Oh… then I find a few leagues in rf2 and they want you to add ballast (bop) and all this other stuff, plus there’s no Trading Paints so that’s another pita. This is where I was hoping Rennsport would have the best of all sims , doesn’t look like it so far 😏
Do you mean being able to adjust your mirrors? If yes use the same buttons you use to adjust your seat but +Crtl and +Alt

Nice video - but as we can see, there is too much broken in this sim - how can it be such a pain to setup the easiest things in a sim wich was released 10 years ago? This is so ridiculous 😅

Just because of this it doesn’t feel right to me - i will stay with iRacing, even if i have RF2 installed and jump in from time to time…
It's not broken at all, never have a single problem.
Just need to to tick the right boxes one time, just like Iracing.
But it seems to be extremely cool, harharharrrr, for Iracing regulars to ridicule RF2 somehow.
Because different car have different FFB, so if you change vehicle but you use the same livery you drive before you have the same FFB setup as the first time you set it up unless there was an update to that car in the meantime. It's not difficult to understand.
Per livery is not a problem don't change livery if for you it's annoying.
And most wheelbase have no problem to setup wheel lock, set to automatic in game and 900° in game and on you wheelbase software and it's all done forever.
@@EricW6800 did you read that i try RF2 from time to time, but it is always not the experience i wish because it is a mess to try to get it running properly.

As a very casual sim racer I've found little appeal to RF2, it's old graphics and the need to tweak so much stuff is a waste of time for us common folk that have a life. My current go to is either AC or AMS2.
I check in on this sim every year or so. I see all the talk of the competitive MP coming to the sim and go check it out. It’s still got alllll these horrid issues that make it just an absolute chore to run. Why ?? Fix the basics devs.
