I'm in Southern California. As a Northerner, i've started to get used to possums. I swear they are some of the strangest animals I've ever seen. They'll eat anything but are some of the most docile creatures ever. A friend even feeds them along with her outdoor cats. They get along. Interesting fact: A lot of people used to think that possums could carry rabies. However, they can not. Their body temperature is too low to harbor the virus.
This is actually wrong. A possum body temperature is too high. It actually burns out the rabies virus. more facts for you. You should probably know if it was not for possums. We would not have snake venom. They can get bit by a coral snake or a rattlesnake 100 times with zero effect on them. This is where anti-venom came from. @acresofadventure
Boy, your chickens are looking so GOOD!!!! They are loving the new chicken tractor!! So fun to see everything you guys do!! Even evict an opposum 😂😂😂. Have a wonderful week!! God bless you all!!!! 🙏❤️🙏
8pm is too late for the closing time. I just adjusted ours tonight. I think ours go to roost between 7-7:15pm, and we're in a zone south of you.....I think our doors close at 7:30 pm.
Sorry for 2 comments.....but I just thought I'd something. My Dad use to put out chunks of Irish Spring bar soap around the perimeter of the pens to keep out opposums, weasels, skunks, etc. You just have to put new chunks out after it rains. And the stinkers that weren't suppose to be there stayed away for a long time. We don't put it out in the winter and we put extra out in the Spring and Fall. Worked for us in Nebraska, maybe it would work for you. Have a great day!!! ❤
@juliemarr65 Well, the bars are outside the pen, put out about a foot or so away from the fences. We never had any of them try to eat them. The goats or sheep wouldn't eat them either. And the horses, cows, and pigs never were around them. My son uses it outside his horse barn. Keeps all the rodents away, too. A friend of ours puts some inside his corvette (and in the garage) to keep animals out during winter months when he doesn't drive it. He is happy with it, too. We put it under our deck to keep rodents, rabbits, etc. out from under there. ESPECIALLY in the fall, so they don't nest under there in the winter. Hope it works for all of you who want to try it. ❤️
Had a guinea pig male (extra) who lived in the nesting boxes. At least for several months, then gone. I had a doggy door for my birds & had a goat who liked to sleep with chickens instead of the piggy hut
Weird question...did you make sure what time the door opens...I found out my open and close were within 30 minutes apart...some little fingers touched the time setting...😂😂😂
I grew up on a Texas farm, opossum are not really dangerous or aggressive. Get a pair or gloves (more so for lice) and catch them by the tail and pick them up. Let them hang up side down. They open their mouth just to seem aggressive when they are really not. Its really not such a big deal. They come attached to the chicken feed more so then the eggs but they will eat them given the opportunity.
Possums are fairly harmless - they just love chicken feed, lol. Saw one in my chicken run earlier this evening when I went out to bring in the chicken feeder.
Here in Georgia snakes are a problem. I had a rat snake in the chicken house this summer that was longer than me, and I’m 6’0”. Three days in a row there were no eggs. I started looking around and found him hiding behind the nesting boxes.
The Aivituvin- AIR7006 tractor coop you have in the end of the video , mine leaks water into the nesting box and coop during rain, are you facing the same problem, and those metal roosting bars will that not be a problem when it freezes in winter, i plan to install 2 by 4's on those metal bars
4:40 I can see a hole in the wire in the background, you might change any chicken wire to that 1/4" wire. As chicken wire isn't good at keeping predators out

Do the chickens try to eat on the soap bars?

Thank you for that tip. I will use it for around the chicken pens. And feed areas.
Well I have a small kitten that somehow ended up in my yard she spends time with the chickens lol
Oh my gosh, that possum is so cute. We don’t have them in Utah always thought they were cute creatures.

Automatic coop doors are worth the money!
Yes they are!
Love the fact the rabbit uses the chicken door
Oh yeah that rabbit is something else
Bun bun. Love it
Try putting a lock on your nesting box outside access door
Love your videos ! keep up the good work!

We don’t have that issue here in Michigan and im happy about that!
Pew pew 😆
😂 if you had welders gloves you would have been gucci. Flash step.
lucky the eggs were the only things being eaten. I've lost many chickens to those damn possums.
Why haven’t you uploaded a video this week?

Just had a possum eat one of my 2-3 month old chicks. And one was in the coop and one was climbing the chicken wire outside the coop
Yeah we havent had the problem for a couple weeks now so hopefully it stays that way
Acres Of Adventure Homestead Hi the Bunny is Cute where are you guys
Do you like you automatic door and if so can you tell me where you got it?
We love them and i have it in the video description!
Hi guys
Hey!
I have the same problem. A plump happy possum living under my cabin and stealing eggs. He doesn’t kill the chickens .. yet. But they will.
Ruger 10/22 from walmart, very quiet gun, good for the city. Put a red dot on it, sight it in and your set.
All you got to do is get Tim by the tail
I have heard that before
